Went to their site and got as far as "Marvel Heroes combines core gameplay elements of Diablo ..... then stopped reading and left the site.
  3. Yup, some of us were planning to resub when the next issue came out but get nothing. Those that were active on the day of the annoucement get up to 3 months free. The rest of us get nothing. Way to go out with a whimper instead of with a bang.

You want VIP status? Non-VIP were too cheap or broke to support the game with a subscription and you think they're entitled to free VIP? Seriously?

If they gave them free VIP, then they'd have to refund every VIP that's paid for it - or it wouldn't be in the least bit fair. Of course, no one said life was fair.

I just wish NCSoft had a paid subscription from everyone who's stated that they should give free VIP to everyone, then maybe the game would have been profitable enough to keep.

I don't care to read/hear how free and premium players supported the game by spending money in the paragon market. If those same folks had been subbed, CoH might not have needed to switch to the hybrid model ( a desperation move) in the first place.
I have zero sympathy for free and premium players who whine about not having vip access -- (except those that just found the game in the past month. For those newer players, I have sympathy.)
So if they are no longer taking payments, what happens to those that are VIP now, but would normally have a payment come out, say tomorrow? Should they be removed from VIP?
  5. I wish. It would be nice to actually play the game in the last couple months. Currently I am stuck with no ability to use IOs and really don't feel like investing the time into a new character in the last days.
  6. Lol wow. Must be the oldest necro thread I have seen. You should get a badge for that.

Controllers want Dark Miasma, but Dark Miasma is already too strong for not-control ATs. You're harming controllers that want a dark set by hanging onto the powers you love (not to mention, intra-AT balance is completely out of whack when one considers that set).

Spine players don't want to be crippled in ST damage just because they have AoE. You're harming every Spines player that needs to fight EBs and AVs (heck, even just purple Bosses) by keeping that toggle damage aura. And even the devs have outright admitted they don't look forward to balancing Spines because the backlash from players would be devastating.

Everybody knows Rage is stupid. The only justification they give is 'the rest of the set sux so we keep it'. Well, that's harming *ME* because I can't play a set that hinges on that one power to be great.

Medicine doesn't always taste like candy, you know.
Just because trollers want Dark Miasma does not mean they will get it. Or at least probably not in its current form. No harm is being inflicted on someone by not giving them what they want. By your logic people that want to be able to 1 shot AVs are being harmed because they are not allowed to do so. Also this imagined harm is not coming from people on the forums that like the current version of Dark Miasma, it is coming from the devs that have not ported the set, probably due to balance reasons.

And yes, spine players do want, or at the least are willing to accept, weak single target damage in exchange for AoE. If you want high single target damage, play another set.

Just because you say everyone knows something does not make it true. Everybody knows this. Believe it or not, you can make the choice to play SS. I play mine all the time and hardley ever bother with Rage and I do just fine. No harm has come to me so far.

My 40% recharge + Force Feedback, Hasten, Ageless and Speed Boost means I am never without an AOE to activate and I very rarely find myself in a position where I have to use the much weaker Electifying Fences to fill the chain. I have capped Defense without relying on having a team mate around for vengeance meaning I don't have to deal with bosses, don't waste an attack on Vengeance and can get tickets faster. I don't have to use purples, the only inspiration I ever use are reds which means I do more damage and gain tickets faster.

Going all out on Recharge is pure overkill. You go beyond the sweet spot and beyond the point of diminishing returns until you reach the point where the opportunity cost of all that recharge is handicapping you.
So you dont understand why recharge is so popular but the best farm you found buy a large margin has someone that gives you more recharge.

Also, you may want to rethink your stance on not fighting bosses. I have tested every +1-4 with and without bosses at x8 difficulty and the one that gave the best inf per min was +4x8 with bosses. At least for my ss/fire ymmv

    1. The lack or whispers/tells is going to be a big one. I never send a team invite without first sending a tell asking if they would like to join first. its just common courtesy.

    2. the inability to join a sg.

    3. only 2 slots, this should be at least 4 slots.

    4.No In-Game Mail?

I understand that some of this is because of a worry that there will be an influx of spam, but from what I've seen from other F2Ps that I have played it is normally not the case.

What I see CoX ending up with, if anything, is the non gamers, there are other games out there that allow for a lot more freedom for their F2P players, and the potential CoX customer base is just gonna stay where they're at or find another game that allows for greater freedom, and not with us.
RMT spam would be a big issue if free accounts were allowed to send tells. I dont see that changing. I can remember just a few years back when you could not go 2 min without getting spammed with tells and your mailbox was constanly full with crap.

On the plus side, anyone can play the game, figure out they like it, then spend the smallest amount of cash they can spend and unlock everything you mentioned above except for cha slots.

As far as that goes, I think we should go the same route most F2P games go and do 2 per server, not 2 total.
  14. Click to send tell would be very nice. Sadly alot of new players will be missing out on teams just because they cannot send a tell or broadcast.

Will free players still be able to use the help channel?
  15. Mine shows 1.5. Looking at version 1.94 updated on May 9

Yea but you would need to buy the ability to slot IOs from the looks of things.

    Stop Time - AOE hold
Slow Time - ST slow, -recharge, -def (Infrigidate w/o the fire debuff)
    Speed boost clone.
Maybe a rewind time for a rez.

    Would be cool:
An aoe toggle that increases recharge and regen of all around them. Time goes by faster for your friends (and yourself) so they attack and heal faster.

Do over: Instantly recast last power.

Some power that causes a mob to relive the damage they just recived in the last 10 seconds.

A power where your future self goes back in time and tells you what the mobs are going to do giving you and your team a boost to Def. (think Mind link clone)

On the I wish, but never gonna happen list : a buff speeds up time for one person. It would have the effect that reduces cast time of your attacks so you can actually move and attack faster. +recharge is nice but if you already have a maxed out attack chain, more recharge does nothing for you.

So yeah, I'd buy that the participation system is working 100% as intended. It may be intended for it to be random, but I DO NOT believe for a second that it's working 100% bug free.
I have seen something similar but only on BAF. Only have an educated guess that participation over a certain level gives you an uncommon if you were supposed to get a common.

Not only wasn't he contributing he wasn't even on the map but somehow the GAME decided his "Participation" was two levels of components better than mine?
The game does not decide that those with higher participation scores get better loot. If you dont get the 10 thread reward, you get a random table reward. Commons and uncommons are for some reason more common than rares and very rare rewards are .... well um ... very rare. So if you are getting something other than 10 threads the GAME has decided your participation is enough to not give you the booby prize. What you get from there is random.

If you qualify for anything better than 10 threads, the reward table is random. If you are getting to tier 3 and not getting very rares it is probably because they are very rare and you upset the RNG gods somehow.

What about Hurl? And other OTG powers like Hot Feet and Poison Mort?

I say it has to go for all of them or none of them. Needing to create new animations wont make that more likely.

    Looking at the competition:

Game B just allows you to do the attacks in the air as is. In the specific case of SS, that includes punching downward to create shockwaves in the air and pulling rocks out of nowhere. I'm OK with this. I'm willing to hand wave it because a little visual kludge is better than a senseless mechanical limitation.

Game C does modify some of its animations for the air. Their Hurl equivalent becomes...some sort of air punch. It's hard to tell and looks poor. No help there. Their Foot Stomp, IIRC, remains the same.

If they're going to make a new animation for Foot Stomp in the air, I'd go a "mighty shout" type of deal. There's already similar suitable animation in the game. That way, no confusion with Hand Clap.

That still leaves a bunch of powers, some needing new models or new animations, including Hurl, which specifically I'm fresh out of ideas for.

I never claimed this thread was a likely thing to ask for. :\

Well, I contend that Rage stacking and its by-product of negating the -def is the only reason this is so.

    .
So if game B is so much better, why are you playing this one still?

He didn't even object to some powers having the ground-only restriction removed at the time I spoke with him about it. He made it clear it was simply a matter of having to involve the animation guys. That and the fact he was on his way out.

So, the devs don't(didn't) have balance concerns with making such a change, it's a question of animation resources.

    .
Then maybe you should get Castle to change it for you.

(EDIT: For the record I have no problem with the vast majority of Grounded powers. For the most part they make thematic sense, and that's enough for me. Solar Flare however boggles my mind. There's NO reason this should require being grounded (aside from the foot stompy animation, which Ice Melee's Frozen Aura also uses but DOESN'T require grounding, so even that's moot).
    Valid point for PB.

Now for my thoughts on that.....

Just a guess of what can be causing the problem for many is what the devs are considering to be the goals of the trial may not be the what we expect.

If one of the goals is to blow up boxes and containers and all you do is clear a path for everyone and or heal/buff people to make it easier for everyone, according to the game, you did not participate because you did 0 damage to the containers.

If one of the goals is to use the acid on the walls and you didnt get any acid, then you had 0 participation for that goal.

If one of the goals is to keep the AV from being enraged and you gave all your grenades to the league leader, or didnt get any, or you killed him fast enough that you didnt need to use them, you did not participate in that goal.

If one of the goals is to break open the weapons delivery but no one needs to do that because all the acids have been used and there are plenty of grenades, there is not only 0 individual participation for that goal, there is no league participation either.

This is all pure speculation of course but it does seem to fit what peple are complaining about. So far in this thread I have not seen anyone that has had an issue with rewards on a BAF trial other than getting DC and getting 0 end reward, and that is a totally seperate issue.
