Habitable planet discovered nearby! (Well, relatively nearby)

Now we have to worry about the inhabitants of that red dwarf star system comming to Earth, as we all know they gain superpowers when exposed to the yellow sun.

i wish he'd hurry up and get here so he can get the age of superbeings kick started dammit. if nothing else, widespread death and destruction from super battles will ensure the economy picks up.

sweet! If we can get there in time we can start making up future dates of when it will end for future generations to worry about, only to be history-trolled! Just like the Aztecs, Maiyans, Nosrtadamus, and that other guy!

Well since they say this new planet is 3x or 4x as massive as Earth if a human-like critter did evolve there they'd be used to a much higher gravity environment than Earth's. My guess is if they were to come to Earth at the very least they could hop around pretty high the same way we can when we go to the Moon. Maybe not exactly Super Jump, but certainly more super than us.

Interesting. I wonder if it would look that way (slow and floaty) or look like a regular jump, just much higher. I've heard some of the better jumps recorded have reached 5 feet. Assuming everything scales equally... that's... what... 20 feet max?

Granted... we have no idea what their muscle composition would be like... or even how strong they would be when compared to us on even terms (they in their gravity, us in ours). But still, I'd say that's a fair estimation.

I hope that planet has at least 10x Earth's gravity, I could use a new place to train to up my Power Level!

Chances are that you will suffer from severe back pain rather than get stronger. Would be easier and cheaper to get some 100 kilogram weights and place them on your hands and legs or start off at 5 kilograms and go up. Doing any activity with 5 kilos on each limb should be a sufficient training program.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

I told my wife I was going to buy land there for our retirement home...

And then decided I should open an internet company selling deeds there, like those that let you name star, buy a parcel of the moon, etc.

(FYI: she didn't like either idea)

It's about 20 light years away, which is very close by galactic measurements. If you had a spaceship that boosted at 1G, flipped around midpoint and decelerated at 1G, you'd get there in about 5 years subjective time. (By Earth time it would appear to be about 22 years.)

No need for a warp drive; if we knew how to live in space and if we had enough fuel, we could reach this planet. Of course, those are two pretty major 'if's.

Ah, he'll be fine so long as he remembers to pack some Senzu Beans.

20 light years? That is really freaking close in astronomical terms. Amazing.

Some more info just came in!

Basically, astronomers have named the planet "Gloaming", which means twilight. Why you ask? Well because it's tidally locked, meaning one face is always towards the sun and one always faces away. Therefore the only habitable region would be a band right between the night and day sides. In such a region the sun would always appear to be setting, hence the name.

Being under constant 1 G thrust would remove a lot of the obstacles to living in space, arising from lack of gravity. Travelers would not suffer loss of bone and muscle mass, and plants could be grown much more easily.

Maybe this guy can help us out.

Awesome news. So, when are we going there? The sooner we get a self sustainable colony of humans out of this solar system, the better. Who knows when we'll get hit by something nasty from space? Let's get humanity out where it belongs: Everywhere!

With the current generation of humans populating the planet, we would be doing more harm than good.

I guarantee there would be some politician or tycoon out there thinking how he can amass more power and become richer from this.

I really would not rather the rest of the universe get corrupted in the way our current society is. Then again, there may be a species out there that makes us look like saints. Who knows.

Nothing like optimism, eh?

To travel to other planets is going to take a lot of maturity, the people who go out are going to have to be self sufficient and stable enough to handle isolation. Anything less and they won't survive.
