It's an excellent movie on time travel and it's consequences. Oh, and it will blow their minds out. You won't get two reports the same.

This. Pick this one.

"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict

A Man for all Seasons is worthy, though at 120 minutes might be pushing the limits. A really great movie about moral choices. I quite seriously doubt you'll find a student that's seen it (which is an important criterion a lot of people here are ignoring).

Too many alts to list.

My suggestion: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Let your students know what Eastwood was like before he started taking pics of covered bridges.

Unfortunately GB&U is almost 3 hours long. Otherwise it would be a good choice.

Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!

For an anime twist, I'd say the Urusei Yatsura Movie #2: Beautiful Dreamer. 90 minutes long, unrated. Can't recall if there's any toplessness of Lum in it though. It's, IMO, one of the best anime movies to ever come out.

A movie I just watched...

"The Battle for Terra"

available on Netflix

Humans detroyed Earth and need to colonize a new planet. The planet they have chosen has life on it already. So now what should they do?

I was going to recommend 12 Monkeys, also a great time-travel mind-bender. It's a bit over the length limit, at 127 minutes. (Actually, cutting off the last ~17 minutes and getting the students to write about it, and then showing the last ~17 later could be interesting, as the ending can totally change your perception of the story.)

A Beautiful Mind is another good one (unfortunately 135 minutes). The story also leaves you guessing until near the end (that is, unless you know the biography of John Forbes Nash Jr.).

I know this feeling...

It was a huge costume contest in Atlas, and my lowbie was dutifully in line, trying to look heroic. It dawned on us that the judge had been DC'd.

So for all we know, Troy is on a desperate mission on another planet, left helpless by exposure to Hickmanite, frantically trying to figure out how to snatch victory from the jaws of certain defeat at the hands of his archnemesis.

Or he may have gone to Canada.

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

You say that like Canada ISN'T another planet...

I think he's on the can. Again.

I went into watching that movie with no clue what it was about other than being based on a true story.
Total WTF moment!

I love a Beautiful Mind. There is so much one can learn from it and it really useful in a philosophy class.

I was going to say "Make treaties with them then immedietly turn around an take their land anyways", but that works as well I suppose.

Yes, I know it's been five months, but I haven't responded to this thread yet because I'm still using it! I'm checking it out now for ideas for THIS semester's movie review.

A lot of great ideas, by the way, thank you. Unfortunately many of them don't meet the criteria of time and rating. I've found some stuff I'M going to watch, though!

But so help me, if I have one more student watch a classic film and then write "well, that was just STUPID," I'm going to be tried for a felony...

On that subject, by the way, here's a link to what they said about Cool Hand Luke.

Troy Hickman - So proud to have contributed to and played in this wonderful CoH universe

At first, I thought that said, "fried for a felony"...

Really?

No one mentioned Big Trouble In Little China? (at 99 minutes and PG-13)

When you are tired of Jack Burton, you are tired of life!

Statesmonkey Sez: Lighten up! It's a game, for Lincoln's sake!
Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.

Troy, I would just like to apologize on behalf of my entire generation for making you suffer through that. Some of us do have more than two brain cells to rub together.

Goodbye, I guess.
