Alpha Slot Removed from Going Rogue
Color me disappoionted; I was looking forward to a sneak peak of the Issue 19 stuff.
But thanks for letting us know out here in the open forums in advance about the change. As someone who'd beta tested a lot of games, I know that sometimes big, hyped things get pulled for various reasons; I'm relieved that in this case, it's because you're not satisfied with whatever the Alpha slot currently does and not because the whole system can't be made to work or something.
That’s not to say you can’t continue to discuss what you have seen in the beta. I encourage the dialogs that you guys have started to continue, and we will continue to read your thoughts and feedback. |
Positron: "There are no bugs [in City of Heroes], just varying degrees of features."
Nothing pleases me more than a development team that is willing to delay a project and make it perfect, rather than rush it out and say "Look, it's out on time!" with spit and duct tape still dripping from its stapled sides.
Kudos on the choice. I look forward to the upcoming system.
Well, better now than later. I look forward to the revamp!
Pinnacle & Virtue:
A bunch of Heroes - Alpha Team, Legion of Order.
A bunch of Villains -Black Citadel , Pinnache.
Let the cries of DOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!! commence!!
Also: I have to agree that it's better to remove it and make it right, than to leave it in, and "fix" *cough*nerf*cough* it later. Lucky for me, this wasn't a selling point in my purchase of GR.

Biggest Troll on the forums? I'll give you a hint:
Hey everyone,
I know it’s been common knowledge for a while that the initial phase of the Incarnate system would be available in City of Heroes: Going Rogue. As you know, I’ve been spearheading the “End-Game” system for City of Heroes, to give players a lot of what they’ve been asking for: more powers, greater customization, more epic battles, and most of all, more content to do with their Level 50’s. That last point was something that we got great feedback on in the GR Closed Beta. Even though it was just a sneak peak, the Alpha Slot doesn’t benefit the player in a way that we had envisioned it would. Because of this feedback we have decided to act sooner rather than later. Since Alpha Slot Incarnate Abilities do not exemplar down (and we're not changing that), we find that players end up with Power that has limited use. We recognize that the Alpha Slot experience is something that a lot of you are eagerly awaiting for and we want to make sure that it is awesome, and most of all fun, when we bring the system on-line. We still want to do an “Alpha Slot Sneak Peek”, but we want it to happen once more of the system and content are closer to being ready for prime time. We want to thank everyone who tested and gave their feedback on the Alpha Slot, the drop rates, the costs, and especially how they see the Abilities interacting with their builds, math-wise. Your testing has been invaluable and we have learned a great deal in a short time thanks to you. We now feel that the Alpha Slot and Incarnate Abilities will have a much higher impact when they are ready to be rolled out. That’s not to say you can’t continue to discuss what you have seen in the beta. I encourage the dialogs that you guys have started to continue, and we will continue to read your thoughts and feedback. We hope this helps you to understand why we’ve come to this decision and appreciate your patience while we continue making the Alpha Slot and the rest of the Incarnate System the best that it can be. |

I'm guessing your post was C&P from something in the beta forum, and that inclusion of the above bit just wasn't removed before making this post. Because, you know, it does kinda go against rules 1 and 2 of closed beta. |
That being said, if the system wasn't working out as expected, better to cut it and work on stuff that will work in time. I actually am kind of glad that the Incarnate Slot was never advertised on the Going Rogue website or the PlayNC Store. Shouldn't be too many expectations that a taste of Incarnates would be included with Going Rogue.
I was so confused when I read this. I thought that it was either posted on the wrong place, or that I'd got my invite to closed beta, clicked the thread, and not even noticed where it was.
As others have said, it's nice to see that you care enough to hold it back to make it perfect. I probably wont' be excited about the incarnate system until it's almost in my grasp, but I'm happy to hear this anyway. Thanks for letting us all know.
I can't be upset or happy about something that I haven't seen.

Comments on this Post Did you really have to quote the whole thing just for that?
In response to this: yes, yes I did. Helps later when someone realizes they shouldn't have made a direct C&P from the Beta forums.
On a side note, and as the poster above me said I can't really be disappointed about something I haven't experienced.
So, meh, really.

...I seem to be the only one who has no idea what this "Alpha Slot" is...
Poo!
Disappointing, but if Incarnate Slots 2.0 is going to be better than I imagine we can wait. Besides, GR should have enough goodies to keep us busy until then anyway.

Pity, I was nervous to get new habilities...
I didnt prepurchased the game, Im waiting for the complete collection but I can see some players upset for not getting the tease of Incarnates...
If the devs give us more costumes in exchange would be nice.
Or pools customization!!
Yeah, that would compensate the sad news.
Lame.
So there's no way for us to buff our 50s and nothing but Cathedral of Pain to do?
I'd rather have an Alpha Slot to power up all my level 50 alts than nothing at all. The Incarnate system's first step was said to be with Going Rogue, now it isn't...when do we get the new goodies?
Questions about the game, either side? /t @Neuronia or @Neuronium, with your queries!
168760: A Death in the Gish. 3 missions, 1-14. Easy to solo.
Infinity Villains
Champion, Pinnacle, Virtue Heroes
The most information that was released was that Going Rogue would have a preview of the Issue 19 Incarnate Slots.
What those were, are, or will be, has yet to be described from any developer. There is, however, a significant chunk of conjecture over what the system will be like.

Question : Will the incarnate system still require GR?

Mildly disappointed, but not world ending /wrists. I agree that I would rather they get it tweaked and ready than put it in and go GDN on it later.
Still doesn't change my purchase decisions for GR.
I am disappointed, especially seeing as how this had been explained as being included with Going Rogue, and now it isn't, leaving me (and I am sure a few others) feeling as if we were just teased.
However, in light of the fact that you "say" you're going to make the system more useful than the small gains that were reported during your beta, then I guess much more can't be said about the issue.
I certainly hope you live up to your word on this one.
Guess i'll just wait to buy GR when all this incarnate stuff gets sorted out and released cause side switching is cool and all but I hate 1-20 content with a passion. Its not the missions it's the lack of powers and down time I can't stand. So ya I feel alittle let down.

Far as we were told last year at Hero Con, Going Rogue was probably going to be a Spring release. That didn't happen. It's now a late summer release. This is why the developers almost never attach dates or guarantee anything for future issues. This is why marketing hasn't been able to go hog-wild with promoting the game. The actual planned release is still in flux.
