I was largely agreeing with you before this post. Not completely, mind you, but at least a little.

But I make it a point never to trust people who start any sentence with "Trust me..."

What I believe is that even if all of the hardkoar peeveepee'rz did leave this game, I really don't miss them, and this game has probably reached the point where it will continue rolling until NCSoft decides to shut it down of their own free will. It's not going to be financial instability that kills the game, probably ever.

In 1000 years, there might still be a CoH. After all, EverQuest is still live.

Completely unrelated sidenote: I'm very amused that my reputation has changed colors like a dozen times in the last week.

This might be true if NCSoft didn't have a habit of killing off games that aren't doing well financially. Anyways, I posted earlier that this game probably has 80-90k subscribers right now, which is about 2/3 the numbers we knew as of a year ago. Since NCSoft doesn't post subscription breakdowns by game anymore the best we can do is guesstimate based off revenue numbers which isn't entirely accurate but probably gives us a decent picture. Personally, I don't care how many people are playing this game, or how much money this game is making. I do care that the part of the game I spent most of my time playing sucks now, and I do care that except for a small group of people, my globals have been largely empty the last year and a half.

Never before in the history of this game has a group of players had the part of the game they liked ripped out, mangled, and thrown back at them with nothing more than a "here, you'll like this!" I'm not talking about changes to powers or powersets, nor changes to the invention system, or even ED (as that wasn't really a mechanics change so much as it was an attempt to keep power creep in check, and even that can be largely circumvented by the IO system). I am talking about global mechanics changes due to misconceptions and misunderstandings from players who didn't even participate in that part of the game, which failed to achieve the stated goals, drove most of its players away, and was basically left to rot despite all the negative feedback surrounding the changes from those who did know the system. If 10% of the playerbase PvP'd before I13, it's probably 1-5% now. It's sort of like what would happen if you asked people who only played Tankers how they should rebalance Blasters, and then completely ignoring Blaster players who through experience could tell exactly how such changes would be bad.

I dont pvp.. it is not my 'thing' so to speak. But I don't see the harm of the pre-I13 pvp at all. Sure... som AT's or powers where better then others. But thats the same in PVP and PVE.

I believe the facts that there is a decline in PVP. That alone should be a reason to roll back PVP changes done in I13. Just accept that it wasnt a good idea and get some players nack.

This thread is pretty short for all the replies it had today. If only they could apply those man hours and persaverance to fixing bugs and crap we might have had the cop back up and still pvp based before they killed that part of the game.

Duel me.
I will work on my sig pic more when I have time.

There's a difference between sales dropping over the course of a year and half (Issue 13 was released on October 8, 2008), and sales dropping immediately signaling displeasure from the playing base.

E.G. : Compare the NCSoft financial reports from Tabula Rasa's launch / demise, or the SOE financial reports from either Planetside or Star Wars Galaxies, with those made since I13 launched. There's no equivalent steep plunge following the release of something players didn't like.

Trust me, I've been playing games where the devs pulled a Planetside, and massive amounts of players just disappeared. City of Heroes hasn't seen anything like that.

Who cares about overall subscriptions? We are talking PVP here. And as a community it was hit VERY hard by i13. In a game where tens of thousands play, a dip of 350 to 400 subscriptions will be hardly noticeable as a whole, but from a PVP community standpoint it's devastating.

Perhaps this post will not be deleted by our new Mod overlord. My other one was a little more snarky.

Let's be honest, this isn't even in the same spirit as the original CoP. Are you calling it CoP so that you can claim to have given it back to us in some redeeming maneuver?

Whatever this trial turns out to be, it isn't a return of the CoP as we knew it.

I'm going to call whatever this thread was attempting to do Cathedral of Lame. Why is this even in the PvP section? It has nothing to do with pvp. Is this some lame attempt to get pvp'ers to kneejerk resubscribe to the game because they hear that the CoP is back in action? Thanks for pissing in pvp'ers cornflakes by taking away one of the coolest pvp integrations (probably the coolest) in the game. And now throwing it in our faces...Unimpressive.

This is a pve update and should be in a pve section. Where is that new sheriff mod12 when they are needed?

While I think people have every right to be upset over the I13 PvP changes, I think you should cut Ghost Falcon some slack on this one. They just announced the return of the COP and didn't want PvPers to think that they were also bringing back base raids.

But hey, if being snarky to the devs who are trying to be upfront with you is your thing, go for it. Look how well that's worked so far.

Honestly if it were me I wouldn't have even bothered.

People would figure out pretty quickly on their own that CoP wasn't pvp content.

to be honest with you I don't think the original Cop/IoP was all that interesting, but to each their own.

I'll cut ghost falcon some slack when my fire/sonic corr isn't just pure ornament in pvp.

If I spend a tenth as much time trowing wrek at ghost falcon as I did learning to play, io-ing, and pvping on that thing, I still have about 25 hours of wrek to trow.

Knowing nothing of the old CoP - what did it used to be like? Aside from the Items of Power and their connection to Base Raids (the only part I do know something about), how was the old Trial linked to PvP?

Posted

The items of power as the reward was planned opened your SG base to base raiding.

This switch was never thrown, the brief period it was live, the items did not set the PVP raid flag.

The Cathedral itself was always a PVE 'raid'

Eh, I sorta feel sorry for GF, pretty sure he drew a short straw or something since I didn't figure he'd be the one to post something like this >.>

Yeah. I'd have had my money on The Ocho drawing the heat.

But I guess the Base raids not actively being worked on is a big announcement, and maybe they thought it deserved a Dev rather than a Community rep.

I used to have a decent amount of fun in our 'friendly' base raids within our coalition. I am sorry that they wont be coming back in any form soon.

Why is everyone complaining about this being in the PvP section? GF just announced that something that used to be related to PvP will not be when it's reimplemented, it's not that big of a deal. It just seems like a lot of people just need to ***** about anything.

Woe, woe, woe!

Calm down, there. Don't just start tossing profanity around. That's highly offensive.

As a reserved, cordial, and relatively timid individual, I can say, pretty safely, that while appreciated in a sense, this is basically a huge slap in the face. You can view it as courtesy, and that's fine, but others will take it as more or less insulting.

I'm sad that you can't understand that, but ignorance is bliss, or so they say.

BRING BACK INFERNO!!!!!!!!

Don't I look cool and snarky?
There, that looks more honest.

Seriously, how in the world can you use this justification to complain about something that happened 5 issues ago and has nothing to do with this?

And if the devs didn't care about PVP, why are people allowed to get away posting such obvious troll bait when anything else with this level of snark is quickly moderated out of existence.

Still hate the visit Winscott mission- make it dropable, have it give actual exp or remove it altogether. PS- Down knows who you are.

I don't see a problem in telling us straight up that it won't have any connection to PvP anymore. Disappointing? Well, yeah. If they would've just released CoP without telling us base raids aren't coming back with it, there would be people complaining after discovering it first hand. As for being in the PvP section, I don't see a problem with that either. Like I said before, they're just telling us that something that was once relevant to PvP'ers is no longer, and what better way to let the PvP community know other than posting it in the PvP section.

On another note, Ghost Falcons neg rep made me laugh.

They could've just included it in their announcement that there won't be base raiding or any type of PvP in it (WHICH I think most pvpers already knew before they even announced it due to the lack of sheer PvP interest from the devs and being ignored for 99.9999999% of the time this game has launched PvP). But to post it IN the PvP Forums is a slap in the face, since you know....it's all about PvE now.

It's not needed. It's lame.

The OP was trolling.
