Thanks for the polite response. In a thread about how a feature doesn't involve pvp, I merely thought it a perfectly valid question while the thread may have a redname's attention.

Ok so since i can only talk about cathedral of pain.

It will probably end up like any "hard" content in this game. Wail on a giant bag of hp with retarded a.i until it drops.

srsly, sai needs to post about pvp moar often. it brings massive lulz.

EDIT: why does mod12 keep deleting everything >:O

Positron's i13 letter: We are trying to make PvP more accessible to new players, while giving experienced PvP'ers the advantage that comes with formulating tactics around the new systems we're putting in place. PvP from now on will be on our priority list. If something isn't working out, we'll be in there tweaking it and making it work, for the entire future of the product, not just Issue 13.

With the release of the "Issue 18: Overview" today, I wanted to address some questions that would naturally arise within the PvP community regarding the return of the Cathedral of Pain.

Previously the Cathedral of Pain was used to acquire Items of Power which were instrumental in Base Raiding. The initial implementation of the CoP was exploitable and ultimately removed. We have always wanted to revisit the CoP and return it to something players could participate in, and with Issue 18 we will be doing just that.

The new implementation of the Cathedral of Pain gives the choice of a number of rewards to players, but it does not contain Items of Power.

Base Raiding is currently on hold and not being actively worked on. We understand that this may disappoint some of you in the PvP community, but we wanted to tell it to you straight to minimize any confusion or false hope that Base Raiding would be addressed in this new iteration of the Cathedral of Pain.

Thanks,

Ghost Falcon
Thanks for the information, Ghost Falcon!

But now, onto a more trendy topic.

What is the update on the status of removing Travel Suppression, Heal Decay, Diminishing Returns, Mez Resistance opposed to protection, base resistances, and the weird damage of powers? Basically, i13 as a whole. Everything putting a stop to the growth of pvp and its population.

Here's hope for a fix!

Sounds stupid.
Fix PvP

On the other hand, I would have never been able to do this (Tf?) as it was before, so I may try a few to see what this Trial is all about. Maybe a change that wasn't too important, but still something else to try out.

Mod 8'd for the win, encounter number two, wonder how many it takes to get banned.... My post having nothing to do with CoP, that covers about all the posts in here.... XD

Yeah. This.

I seriously don't care if the Cathedral of Pain is coming back, you guys already made it so that you don't need to have a supercomputer to do that crappy SF villainside, and we know that in the end, you're just gonna back off and make it the Cathedral of Pain Trial, which starts in some random co-op zone.. blah blah blah, etc etc.

My point is, this announcement is only relevant to the PVP community if one of the following conditions is met:
1. Cathedral of Pain includes PVP based on i12 rules.
2. I can PL a toon from 1-50 in 45 minutes again.
3. That's basically it.

I vote someone move this thread off of the PVP forums.

I like how my posts get deleted simply because I use actual published numbers to prove someone else wrong. That's cool, I guess. I somehow have this feeling that Mod12 was hired to peruse the forums and delete anything PvP-related that came across as negative.

funny that.
Sales have dropped significantly over the past year. I don't want to say it's related, because I don't know. Pretending like they didn't, though, is disingenuous.

There's a difference between sales dropping over the course of a year and half (Issue 13 was released on October 8, 2008), and sales dropping immediately signaling displeasure from the playing base.

E.G. : Compare the NCSoft financial reports from Tabula Rasa's launch / demise, or the SOE financial reports from either Planetside or Star Wars Galaxies, with those made since I13 launched. There's no equivalent steep plunge following the release of something players didn't like.

Trust me, I've been playing games where the devs pulled a Planetside, and massive amounts of players just disappeared. City of Heroes hasn't seen anything like that.

To be fair, we are in the middle of a global economic crisis, and that does probably have a tad more to do with sales being down than any changes that may or may not have been made to PVP.

I think they should enable base raids for those who want them. What's the harm if it's a completely consensual system? It's basically an arena you build and maintain yourself at that point.

mod12 is the new sheriff in town and he/she don't take no guff from pvper's. I've gotten more mod action in the last 2 days than in the previous 6 months. Welcome mod12 indeed!

You don't honestly believe what you are saying do you? Single month subscriptions are only one payment option. A reasonable person would expect a steady decline rather than a spike when something upsets a small portion of the player base. Considering we were told this was just phase one and they made it sound like they weren't going to ditch us like a prom night dumpster baby. I'm sure quite a few people hung around taking a wait and see approach.

I know a number of people that canceled with pre-paid durations at that time, but that would not be reflected in a "steep dropoff". But it would be represented in a steady decline when their tickets come due and even after x number of months the devs couldn't win them back.

The only thing that is certain is that when i13 hit live the pvp population went "poof". Whether they canceled immediately and all utilized single month payment plans is uncertain, but unlikely. They however, did stop pvp'ing. They could also be like me, where I just moved over to edit: pve, but am unhappy with their decisions involving pvp and as such would never recommend this game to anyone. Which is not a good thing from a business point of view. I stay because I'm so invested in it.

Additionally, if we employ actual logic which I understand might be tough, it is safe to conclude that many pvp'ers were using anything but month to month because so many of them were running multiple accounts.

That is what happens when you drop a bomb on the entire populace. What happened here is when you drop a bomb on a portion of the populace.

There's also a difference between paying for accounts monthly and paying for them on a 6-or-12-month basis, which is what many PvPers did since they had multiple accounts. Therefore it would've been a steady decline as accounts lapsed one, three, six, or even twelve months beyond that time. Seriously, do you even think before you post or does your enormous ego drive you to type this drivel and hit the "submit" button? You should get someone to proofread, really.

phat. lulz.

now just start trying to tell people how a sonic/sonic defender will own base raids if/when they come back and that'll be /thread from dahjee 2.0

Y'all expect so much.

Castle just learned how defense worked when he looked at Blessing of the Zephyr for the first time. He was only the powers guys for what, 2 years before that. You can't expect him to understand something as complex as pvp and real endgame content. Oh wait, never mind Positron is handling the end game. Now he can completely finish off what he started with the MA system. Maybe the will let Jay work on PVP next. Then it would be fabulous.
