Cathedral of Pain is Returning

Hey folks,

With the release of the "Issue 18: Overview" today, I wanted to address some questions that would naturally arise within the PvP community regarding the return of the Cathedral of Pain.

Previously the Cathedral of Pain was used to acquire Items of Power which were instrumental in Base Raiding. The initial implementation of the CoP was exploitable and ultimately removed. We have always wanted to revisit the CoP and return it to something players could participate in, and with Issue 18 we will be doing just that.

The new implementation of the Cathedral of Pain gives the choice of a number of rewards to players, but it does not contain Items of Power.

Base Raiding is currently on hold and not being actively worked on. We understand that this may disappoint some of you in the PvP community, but we wanted to tell it to you straight to minimize any confusion or false hope that Base Raiding would be addressed in this new iteration of the Cathedral of Pain.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say: they let Castle work on the CoP. I think you are going to NEED all possible 24 players to get it done.

Actually, this is something I'd be curious about, too. Is Power Liberator/Master Thief becoming obtainable again with this trial, or is it doomed to be another badge lost in time, along with the anniversary badges and passport?

Ok, can you at least flip the switch on live so that people that want raids can raid each other for fun? Base raids were incredibly enjoyable in the day, with the bubbles and all that going around, the recessed floors, it was player created content (bases) AND PvP.

Simply set a switch under SG options that your base isn't raidable if players don't want to go there.

I like how Ghost Falcon was the one to get chumped into going into the PvP section, anyone else find that a little funny?

Seriously though, it isn't a big deal that CoP wont bring base raids back but do you think ANY PvPers held the illusion that the dev team was working on anything to help us?

With the exception of Neuronia most of the previous posters ranged from utterly pointless to trite and self-centered. To be honest i'm not sure how they necessarily are PvP posts other than some asking about the return of base raids. Which is something i'd like to see return as well. The old base raids i participated in were some of the most PvP fun i've ever had.

That said, i'm really looking forward to the Cathedral of Pain trial. i was only able to try the original version once, but i have a hunch the new one will be even more interesting.

Edit: i guess the 'quality' of the replies and it being in the PvP section are what make them PvP responses to some. Honestly i have no idea why G_F posted it here, since the CoP was only related to PvP incidentally, and that connection has been removed in the new version anyway.

I'm reasonably sure a stacked group of 8-12 players will be able to do it.

Also I'm not even sure why this thread was started in the first place, since any reasonable PvPer already knew PvP updates were about a dozen issues away anyways.

The pvp community has become accustomed to being ignored or put at the bottom of the priorities list. Thus far the replies have been rather tranquil, but the regulars haven't shown up yet.

The humor in this thread is that this time a dev did acknowledge us, but only to say that there was no pvp change coming. Irony at its finest.

While I appreciate the gesture, most people here will not.

It might of just been hot air but I though I read/herd some where(back in I15 or around then) that in I19 they were going to look into PvP. Sadly the first thing that came to my mind was *crap the devs are going to screw with PvP again!*.

I believe what you're referring to was one of the posts made by castle saying they weren't going to revisit pvp at soonest until after GR was released.

Awesome work guys! i13 sure did help PvP! Clearly you knew more about PvP then all of us PvP'ers who told you it was a retarded idea and that you were going to drive away all the PvP'ers.

But look what happened.....You drove away all the pvp'ers, now don't we look silly?

Well that's something! Make sure you promote the Cathedral of Pain feature right on the packaging. I can't possibly see that backfiring.

Here then, I will give you what you meant in your "responses so far" since there were not any bad responses up to your post. first to you. If you want to post in the thread do so, but just because GF posted it in the PvP section and some people commented on it, and just because they may be PvP'rs =/= their responses being bad nor does it give you the right to say something as foolish as "That's the other reason nobody likes pvp." The fact that the devs have pretty much ignored the PvP community since I13 was released is a fact. That has not sat well with many people and some/most of those people will let this show in any reply to a post that has something to do with PvP, hence GF's post stating that the PvP portion/base raids are not comming back again just reiterates the fact that PvP is still the least priority at NC Soft.

Thanks for the info, Ghost Falcon. I appreciate being told, even if I don't like the message.

Personally, my favorite form of PvP was base raiding. Sometimes, I would set up small base raids -- 1 on 1, 2 on 2, whatever -- just for the heck of it. It was fun and different and you never knew what someone else's base would look like. It was also the only way for villains to see hero bases and vice versa.

While it was annoying for someone to create a spawn pit of death, absent that base raids were great.

I noticed that your message said you weren't "actively" working on base raiding and that you bolded the word for emphasis. I will be positive and hope that your emphasis means that you are all real busy at the moment getting GR out the door but have some plans to bring it back in the near future.

Why. The. Hell. Is the PvE game, getting ANOTHER, "great" feature. How in whatever deities name it is you believe in, do you justify taking one of the few things this PvP community should have, and turning it into pure pve content ? Like we haven't been mistreated enough.

Seriously. The way this game is run, people should be gratefull there's no such thing as "CoH2".
