I met my wife on this game ohh those many years ago and anyone has the gall to ask me if I will regret my time in this game?
No. I will never regret meeting the person who changed my life around for the better and has made me happier than I have ever been. -
Quote:Are you kidding? Spend any amount of time on these forums and you will realise that his attitude is the only acceptable one to have towards PvPers. If you even doubt for a second that PvPers are some sort of blight on this game you will be harrased until you shut up and leave. To be brutally honest, I've /ignored, noted and /petitioned *far* more people in PVE for acting like that than I ever did in PVP. Yes, even when PVP was fairly active.
So unless you want to do the same to all PVE players, let's try to avoid painting groups with such a broad brush, m'kay?
So again...what you said, more bad experiences with PvErs than PvPers. -
As an avid PvPer who has played many different MMOs, including Warhammer online which has a system almost identical to what you are talking about, let me tell you how that would go in this game...
Heroes control every zone, all of the time, the end. -
File that one away with "lol PvP."
-
I have to agree with Nalrok....
Villains have had to deal with crap stories and being told that we have to play the good guy since CoV was released. Now that heroes get an arc, an arc that is supposed to be game changing, that they haven't yet won, if you think that heroes will actually somehow lose to Wade you are insane this is an MMO after all, people are throwing a fit?
REALLY?
I will listen to your complaint as soon as my villains stop doing things "for the greater good." I don't mind co-op, I just wish that there was less lazy writing. -
Okay this game really has this pervasive "us vs them" mentality for EVERY SINGLE CHANGE. Seriously, what the hell? People are so offended that there is a group based system that rewards better than a solo system? Why? Why does YOUR way always have to be THE way. For years CoX has been nothing but solo with laughably rewarded Task Force, then they changed that and people threw a fit with the introduction of recipes. How about you just accept that the game changes and it wont ALWAYS be to your liking. I was a PvPer pre-i13 then they changed they game so much that it was no longer fun for me. Then they announced the incarnate system and I came back because it appealed to me. SHOCKING RIGHT?! You don't HAVE to play this game and you can't stop it from changing, if you don't like the changes then leave or deal. Stop telling everyone, the devs included, that they must appeal to your play style or there will be hell to pay.
You are getting a solo option with DA, is it as fast as the trials? No. Nor should it be because the idea that they give equal rewards would flat out kill trials and group content. Because in the end it is about risk vs reward, and there is a lot less risk involved when I have no one else I have to rely on and I can control everything that happens in the mission. In a trial I have to rely on other players, which more often than not is why trials fail, because people just can't follow simply directions. But when the planets align and they DO pay attention and things go well you get a reward for working together. Solo, there is no risk. At wost you have to run back from the hospital and continue the mission with more inspiration. Solo there is NO change for failure short of a time limit and even then I have never felt pressured by a time limit in this game. -
Wow this topic is rampant with straw man arguments and now hate for PvP! It is like we have regressed back to...well what this game has always been, people saying, "play my way or get out!"
Have any of you people read this topic? Seriously? A LOT of post have been made about how to make villainous arcs that do not involve "blowing up the world." In fact I don't think there are any post that seriously defend the notion that villains should blow up the world and most people are just saying, "why can't my villain ever do ANYTHING?" There are a couple of arcs where villains DO but they are the minority, such as Westen Phipps, and the "greater good" excuse is running dry. That is what people are saying! Not that they want to destroy the world, they just want to be what they are paying to play as, a villain. -
Okay I have read most of the post in this topic but not all, so keeping that in mind...
1. The idea that villains are proactive and heroes are reactive is absolutely true, with that in mind why not write stories in game that are based on that? The villain story arc comes first in cannon, then there is a hero side arc that is reflective of what the villain did. You don't NEED the villain to be part of the arc, with correct writing, just that the heroes deal with the fallout of said villain arc. Say the villain wants to break someone out of the Zig for one reason or another and that is the red side story arc. Then the heroes have a corresponding blue side arc that gives you the premise that, "a villain has caused an outbreak at Zig, we need you to quash the riot and bring back some of the criminals who escaped."
2. Giving villains rewards for completing certain TFs is great and should be expanded to story arcs as well. Why not have a story arc about building an awesome weapon of mass destruction, then at the end you get a one time temp power nuke similar to the Warburg ones or something of that nature? Yeah it rewards red side over blue side but there is no reason that BOTH sides can't get things like this. But it certainly gives you the feeling of villainy to actually see results from your plans, even if it is just temporary.
Those two things alone would go WORLDS towards making red side content more villainous and less mercenary hero. See, everyone in this topic seems to have this idea that all villains want to destroy the world or save it, why can't most villains do what most villains in comics do and take advantage of the heroes being distracted by a greater threat to enact their own plans? Even if it IS foolish for the villains to assume the heroes can stop the world ending entity, that is what villains DO. It doesn't have to assume that all of our villains have this sense of right and wrong that fits with the heroes. I understand that co-op content gives most bang for the buck but if that is the case then just open up ALL zones to both sides and stop pushing villains aside. -
Yeah...ever since I head that Statesman was the one getting offed I had the feeling it was a "He is dead, ohhh no!" Then when the last part of the arc rolled around we would miraculously bring him back to life. Why? Because that is the cheapest/laziest way to do it and that seems to be the MO or MMOs.

Why do they hold these Q&A's if every answer is the same?
Nothing to say about <Insert Topic Here> at this time. -
EST? Usually 11:00 PM to about 3:00 AM. But where I am that is 9:00 PM to about 1:00 AM. But I also play during the day a lot, I am a cook/chef/what ever I happen to be at the moment as I bounce from job to job trying to find something more permanent, because of my work I can't really play prime time nights. When I do get on and look for teams I can never find anything either because of the fact that I prefer red side or when I am on blue side it is usually to late. I have been looking for an RPSG or VG for two years now and all I find are dead groups OR the annoyingly ego-centric groups that the leader created so they could have their own fan club and a world that revolves around their character.
-
Well it has been about two years now trying almost every resource I can and haven't found anything yet. The only reason I stuck around this long is because my wife loved Virtue. Now we both have hardly any motivation to log on anymore.
-
Actually I see in his example of why EBs in solo content is bad. The Patron arcs were originally made for 40+ characters and only recently lowered. The EBs in these arcs were designed accordingly to a character that would have all access to powers in their primary and secondary, which means god mode for melee ATs. These encounters are a little hard on a level 35 character.
In the rest of the game EBs are not a problem, but in the once scenario he listed there is some truth to what he is saying. -
I am originally from Liberty, then to Freedom, now here on Virtue.
But seeing as RP seems to be dead outside of the D and the few 1337 RPers I am strongly considering going back to Freedom so I can just play the game. -
Quote:I love the amount of logical fallacy that is acceptable in internet debate...The reasoning goes that nobody would want to do large trials if you can get the same rewards without forming a huge league.
Which then leads to the question "why do we keep getting these trials if nobody actually wants to do them", but people usually just laugh or get mad when I ask that.
I will tell you straight up, you are in a way right. If the solo option gives equal rewards to trials then no one will do the trials anymore, ever, and it is not because they enjoy them it is because you can consistently complete solo objects because there are less variables. I prefer trials, I actually like playing with other people in an MMO which seems to be so shocking to some people, but if the solo option gives equal rewards that means that I don't have to worry about everyone else say, using Ion on the TPN. It is not that I like soloing more, I hate soloing and it is a reason that I can't bring myself to play this game more than twice a week, but there is no way they can make solo content as challenging as trial content. Solo will ALWAYS be easier because their will be less variables involved so if it gives equal rewards then there will be no reason to do trials, which are harder.
People who enjoy trials will still do them, but they will be once in awhile things because why do something that is harder for equal rewards? I may like it more but I am not stupid and most players are the same way, they want the most rewards for their time invested. -
Well you have to understand that the story is told in this game relative to your level, which is the entire idea of exemplaring down. At level 40 you don't know what your character would know IC at level 50. I am not saying that it is a good system of defending it but that is the mindset you have to approach the game with if you want the story to make any kind of sense.
-
This is kinda a quick response but this really seems to be a case of heroes being dealt what villains have had to deal with from the very beginning of this game. On top of that villains, as in player characters, yet again are really only here for the ride and have no stake in the entire SSA. This is Darrin's plan, this is all about him, the villain characters just seem to be along for the ride. Nothing we do really matters at all in the slightest.
It also seems that people are running these arcs with the OOC knowledge of everything is happening and pretending like their IC reactions are not being influenced by them. There is NO WAY your hero wouldn't think that Manticore, the guy who is a member of the most powerful group of heroes in the game world, could save her. You are acting like your character would know everything that the player knows and that is simply not the case. You are acting like the person during a horror movie who is screaming at the screen for the person to not go into the house.
My final point ties into the iTrials and their "bad writing." Yeah it IS bad writing, you know why? Because this is an MMO the structure of the MMO means that you have to accept at some level that in order for things to be challenging the story must suffer. YES civilians beating up incarnates in the TPN makes no sense but in order to tell THAT story it must suffer for through the fact that it is still a game and it must be made challenging to the players. Any game is the same way if you think about it, you always fighting more powerful enemies and in some case it is literally a pallet swap from an old enemy, think about how many different kinds of wolves there are in Final Fantasy games. It is the nature of gaming. -
Your best bet is going to be looking in game for something, the forums aren't very helpful for finding a role playing group. As you can tell most people say, "Look at the stickies above" like it is helpful...look at the villain list. Two groups. One that I was apart of before and didn't really like and the other has a theme I am not really interested in. So yeah, two choices from the forums and if you don't like what they have to offer you got nothing.
-
Yeah RP PvP wont lend itself well to zones, if I see two people RP fighting in the zone and throwing attacks about as often enough to be regenerated before the next attack I would laugh.
RP PvP can only work with consent in the arenas. If you waste time typing out responses in zones it would be very boring, because of passive regeneration, and chances are a PvPer will come along and destroy you or the person you are RPing with. Red is dead. -
Congratulations!
It is nice to see I am not the only one who met their significant other on this game! I met my now wife in this game five years ago, married for almost a year come January, spending almost four years doing a long distance relationship. -
I have been having great success and amazing fun with Dark/Time. It isn't the best damage you can get but it is extremely survivable with the mix of debuffs in primary and secondary and still does decent damage with Scourge.
-
Thanks for the feedback!
Looking over your second build I have to disagree on Temporal Selection over Acro, especially when you took out the hold resistance as well in tough. I wish I could fit temporal selection into the build but I solo a lot more than I team so I think that acro will benefit my play style a bit more. I guess I should have mentioned that first hah.
I noticed that you slotted Tenebrous Tentacles for -tohit as opposed to damage for some more defense to R/E/N, do you think that is really needed considering it is already well above the cap? I prefer to use the two cones as AoE damage rather than control so maybe I am just weird.
On the positive your take on Life Drain is exactly what I was looking for! Much better than what I had slotted. My only other concern is if it is worth it to unslot tactics and lose the defense buff from that in order to slot up Slowed Responses? It seems to be a decent power right out of the box, at least decent enough to sacrifice the extra -defense for extra defense.
I also moved on slot from Dark Pit to Chrono Shift and reslotted like you suggested. All in all I think the build is looking a lot tighter, thanks a lot!
Also, I strongly recommended this combination. With the correct slotting in order to hit the soft caps and the -tohit from Dark as well as the debuffs from Time make this a power house. Not the most damaging, but that is kinda made up for by Scourge heh. -
So I am toying around with my new favorite character, which is of course a Dark/Time Corr, and have this build planned out in Mids. It seems pretty solid minus the end use/recovery rate and I am looking to see if there is a way that someone else can see to trim the fat and maybe fix up some of the slotting.
My defense are set at:
S/L 54.1%
F/C 30.1%
E 54.9%
N 42.6%
P 28.9%
M 37%
R 45.1%
AoE 31.4%

Quote:I am not against micro transactions per say, I appreciate that it will bring us more content sooner. I just hope that it doesn't turn into a scenario where everything is paid for and new free content just disappears.I find it hilarious that the person you quoted likes pvp but is against something that can bring more revenue into the game, and thus FINALLY get some extra resources that could go INTO adjustments for PVP.
IRONY.
But really, I don't think anyone is so delusional to actually believe that PvP will ever be revisted in this game, even if it is...to little to late. That ship sailed a long time ago and I have made peace with that. What I haven't forgotten is how many times I was told by the community at large that my chosen community were all terrible people and the game would be better off if we all just left.
