All Things Art: 'Lost' Costume Pieces
Briefly, back when closed beta was structured so that the CC creator was always "open", there was a bug that introduced many of the hidden dev only costume items.
This included a wide range of back items including the dynamite rucksack, money grabbing rucksack and huge back-slung daemon axe. Again, because it cannot be reiterated enough times until it becomes an option, even if it means waiting till CoH2: persistent. back. items.
I remember getting really excited when I saw both those rucksacks out of context and thinking, "Geeze, have I got some fun concepts for THAT costume piece."
ok people mentioned the malaise pattern, and fortunatly i have one really old alt that still has it. here are the pics, i got front side and back, unfortunately the color is black and red, so contrast is not as good, but i liked it back in issue 1.
I thought I might have imagined it, but if someone else saw it... then it was the Baron Jacket.

I think it was meant to be available with Going Rogue but was added early by mistake.
I have a controller on Virt using it.
Hopefully when GR proper launches, players will get it back

David, this is one of the best threads ever created.
Thank you so much!
I hope it proves useful.
I don't know if my Search-fu is weak, or if this is a lost costume piece. I recently made a character with a jacket with what appeared to be an Asian Dragon design. I kinda liked that design. Could I have it back?
|
I looked down at him and suddenly noticed that it looked like they had a dragon design on the back of their trench coat.
They didn't come back for a while, so we moved on and I never got to see the character again.
I had wondered if it was just some odd glitch from the character laying prone on the ground or if it was something more.
I commented about it and the other team members came around and looked and were equally curious (Well, some anyway, hehe).
So... What is the deal with this? I keep forgetting about it.
It looked like it may have been the chest detail dragon symbol from the Martial Arts Booster Pack.
I so very much want those fur shoulders and I agree that those thigh highs must be an option.
Also, those original hairstyles look pretty cool to me! Didn't know about that change (Wasn't around then, I don't believe).
As per an above poster's information that the wrapped face is used by this NPC, here is a picture of Experiment 236 (grabbed from Paragonwiki.com):
and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
Lower Body, Upper Legs. There used to be a stripe pattern (can't remember if it was a numbered one or called something like fat stripe):
The Task Force Commander accolade briefly unlocked a pair of shoulder epaulets. Essentially the same as the two spiked epaulets except... um, without the spikes. The normal epaulets vanished from the game a while back, for no discernible reason. I'm pretty sure I've seen at least one NPC wearing them.

- Definitely the old thigh-high boots that looked like boots, not painted on.
- The Malaise tight pattern - I remember using that for a bit ages ago.
That's all I can think off the top of my head for now.
Huron: "...with Coffee primary / Attitude secondary"
Charnage: "Please. Think of the poor defenseless desks."
"The Babylon Project was our last, best hope for peace. It failed... In the year of the Praetorian War, it became something greater... our last, best hope for victory."
The two items I especially want returned are the bandaged face/head option. it was available in City of Villains Beta and I believe for a short time after that. it was sort of a mummy/bandages look.
More importantly are the original suit jackets for men and women that were form fitting and one layer and weren't bulky and didn't clip with things. Those looked awesome and I feels ad every time I go to use jackets and decide they just don't look good enough.
Thank you greatly for this thread as it has brought up MANY old costume features and pieces I miss.
Old-style female's suit top that has long since disappeared. The newer jackets are too bulky, and just don't look right.

Yet another option that went <poof> in CoV beta: Robot Masterminds originally had a totally different rifle that had a decidedly more "LazerTag" vibe to it. The model was changed close to the end of beta testing and I never could find out why. Wish I still had screenies.. but about 2 PCs and a few formatted hard drives later, no luck.
Pretty sure I brought this up at the beginning of weapons customization, but figured never hurts to ask again.
While not a lost costume piece, I have had some problems with cropping on a current costume of mine:
This is one of the samurai pieces. In the front it looks fine but in the back:
You can see by the shoulders where the armor crops into the cape with it's straps. It becomes more noticeable when leaping as seen below:
In some jumps it shows almost the entire back of the armor. Which it shouldn't do but because the armor is located under he chest symbols, the cape goes right through it. It has been this way for at least an Issue now.

Elf ears get pretty close (now), but they head backwards unlike the pointed ears of the old pointy ears head (yeah, you newbies! We used to be able to exchange actual heads! :P), which pointed up.
David - I know the malise pants pattern was removed cause it was meant to be a sig piece, but until it was removed, we had no clue (removed in... i4? no sooner, if not later).
Alas, I have no screen, but the puffy pirate shirt from CoV beta REALLY needs to come back!
I think it was removed for clipping issues, but who cares?!? It's a puffy pirate shirt! |
Also, any chance of getting the Blue Steel Shield back?
According to Paragonwiki, it existed during the I13 closed beta, but was removed for unknown reasons. It is still in the game, as it can be used by critters in Architect. |
Another for bringing back Bolero with Wings. We already have a red name (babs? bah, can't find it now) saying that wings with cape-physics isn't a big deal. The theory is that Bolero with Capes needed to be removed so all Back options were removed.
Please bring this back! |
But Woodsman is not a dev, so if the reason for unique costumes is to stop impersonators (and that's the only reason that makes sense), he doesn't need them.
|
Don't remember exactly why they removed those shoulders though.
To be fair, Sister Psyche's in-game costume is missing bits compared to the artwork (the shoulder rings, etc). But unlike the other sig. bits (if that was why the beast shoulders were removed) the shoulder fur bits are really useful for a lot of characters.
Orc&Pie No.53230 There is an orc, and somehow, he got a pie. And you are hungry.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
Also this costume option:
http://sdmb.culex.us/pics/main.php?g2_itemId=1153 (for a month or two there was a bug where Tops-Tights-Flack Jacket-Flack Jacket produced this mostly transparent abomination) (PS I am kidding but only kind of, I have several characters missing body parts to all viewers and enjoy it) |
I regret deleting that costume every week.

Something we dont have access too, for reasons unknown;
Cabal hat with hair and the ragged skirt;
Oddly, the Cabal mobs themselves all seem to be bald (which looks HORRIBLE). Yet the tech is clearly there for the hat with hair. What gives?
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

It was not removed for unknown reason - it's a signature piece - it was/is meant to be unique to Blue Shield.
|
Malaise pattern for bottoms (it was on baggy too) I have a costume from issue 3 I cannot change....
add Malaise pattern for tops, and other costume pieces.
If costume pieces clip badly with other pieces, then the person making the combination needs to do a better job. Not everything goes well together. The problem is certain pieces were removed because some people could not make adjustments and made combinations which clipped.

Shadow State notes: Actually it's not, It's similar to but not identical to Blue Steel's shields and and is even still usable in AE. As I recall one of the devs said it was added to the game to be made into an unlockable, they just hadn't put in the unlock yet. |
**cues a bunch of bad Chuck Norris jokes**
Dec out.
Ice_Ember talks up a qualifier: If costume pieces clip badly with other pieces, then the person making the combination needs to do a better job. Not everything goes well together. The problem is certain pieces were removed because some people could not make adjustments and made combinations which clipped. |
Dec out.
Key word here being "badly". I'm perfectly willing to accept mild clipping (and do, there's a ton of it), but "badly"? No, I have to agree with the seeming dev position that nothing should clip "badly".
|
I do think that should be up to the creator of the character, not some odd clipping rules that the Devs not really follow either. Some things 'will' clip, no way around this with the current engine. The player should make the choice.
Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.
