All Things Art: 'Lost' Costume Pieces
Well, the cape stuff I consider "mild" only because it's the cape (somewhat nature of the beast with this engine). The devs are dedicated to making things look as good as possible. What that is has to be up to them. Left to their own devices, a large portion of the players will make stuff that looks terrible (in fact, they already do, aesthetically). Then new players look around and say "Man, the devs here have no idea how to make costumes right." I trust the devs way WAY beyond what I'd ever trust the players.

Captain Fabulous has me reveal: On an unrelated note, have you seen some of the NPC costumes the devs come up with??? Ok, they might not clip, but gawd, they sure ain't pretty. |

That's not old, that's new.
I think it was meant to be available with Going Rogue but was added early by mistake. I have a controller on Virt using it. Hopefully when GR proper launches, players will get it back |

I can half-understand the reason Malaise was removed (though I wish I could edit the costumes using it ), but I'd love to have the old suit jackets back!
As for clipping: One of my current costumes, a Longbow homage, has my character walking around with her ribs and elbows sticking through her tights, her shoulder pads lodged in her head, her cape bisecting her ponytail half-way up its length, and a longbow embedded along the length of her arm and ramming straight through the center of her skull. This is a new costume. If clipping is still a primary concern, don't let the devs look at the current options, or they'll be driven to drinking.
Edit: If you really want to see some wacky clipping, try Sonic Blast with shoulder spikes. You julienne-cut your own head on a regular basis.
I'll cast a vote for the return of cargo pants (and all other styles) that had separately patterned top and bottom halves. You do still have the option to do this with "tights/pants" but the result looks REALLY weird because they are tights. Jeans and cargo pants are not naturally form fitting, so seeing the outline s of your calves and thighs in jeans makes your character look emaciated.
I'm unaware of an explanation for the change but I'd really like to get my old pants back.
Honestly, there have been so many little changes over the years that I don't remember them all any more. I mostly become aware of them when I take an older char and try to change them and realize that half their costume is not showing up in the customization screen.
Yes, also, to the old thigh high boots. They were a little slutty, but as has been pointed out, they looked and felt like real boots and not like painted on boots.
In fact, if you could just undo most of the "streamlining" that happened around issue six or seven, and bring back the old suit jackets weren't layered on top of a chest object, that would be fantastic. I don't think I have a copy of the old jacket any more, but I'll take a look this weekend.
you used to be able to put a symbol on the chest of female shirts, now you can just put it at a small pin.

This fellow, on the Sister Psyche TF no less, uses a PC character model by the looks of it.
And he has the crey apron thing;
I will kill whoever needs killing to get that piece in game.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

A while baa head detail costume piece called 'Mandible' received additional texture to make it resemble a human jawbone and lower face. I know at least one SG-mate who used the old version as part of his character's look. The untextured piece works very well as a helmet faceplate.
I know the gladiator shoulder piece was mentioned a couple of times but what would be awesome is being able to swap the shoulders of the shoulder piece. Call it gladiator - left and gladiator - right. |
I'm not sure when it was altered, but getting the old mesh top for females back would be nice.
Was this:
Currently this:
I'd forgotten about the blindfold with no chains/barbed wire, that would be great to have back, I thought I maybe had imagined having that originally when I went to look for it recently.
The armbands/collar that were in beta with Cimerora would be really nice to have too. What else would be great was if we could get the widow butt cape as a belt option..all the cape designs would be great but I'd settle for just the current widow one available to all characters.
I noticed a couple people asking for stuff out of the CoV tech demo, like ripped jeans and whatnot...a lot of that never existed as a costume piece, like the long side slit skirt, it was all just for demo purposes
Bikini 2 and Bikini 3 for with Shorts/Skirts. This used to be available (and I have some characters with the legacy configuration), but now only Bikini 1 is available for the Shorts/Skirts lower torso category.
I believe everyone's "favourite" news reporter from the Rogue Isles actually still has the legacy configuration as well.
ALL the original human faces from City of Heroes launch are disabled.
After the CoV expansion, some players complained that the "villain faces" were duplicates of the "hero faces." Those players were wrong. They are, in fact, darker, sharper, frownier, more villainous looking versions of the original human faces. It takes a sharp eye, but close examination reveals that not one is an exact duplicate. Nonetheless, the original human faces are disabled, so the only way to have an original human hero face is to have it grandfathered in and never visit the tailor. |

Stepping into the Wayback machine, you used to be able to apply the leg patterns to both the thigh/tops of the pants and the boot portion This is using a grey blend on white pants, attempting to give it a dirty look. We can't apply patterns to the bottom of pants anymore. or at least I'm missing how.
|
On the left are the legacy pants from being able to apply two different patterns on the top and bottem. On the right is how it's currently available ingame; only with the Tight lower body setting with the Boots set to Straight for the pant leg. Certainly, the one of the left looks far better...
On that note, I've always wondered why many of the tight fitting options, Tight Pants being the worst offender, make the character's knees look disjointed like a rag doll's....

Sure there's always going to be players who run around with badly clipping costumes but I don't think it's a "large portion" of them as you suggest. The Devs will never be able to fully prevent that from happening no matter what they do. I'm not suggesting the Devs do nothing about clipping - I'm just suggesting that they've been a bit too aggressive about it. The fact that this thread even exists shows us that the Devs finally realize that they've perhaps gone a bit too far "protecting" us from this evil.

True enough, and on my part, if it's clipping with A and not a whole bunch of others, I'm much more in favor of them not allowing A with it rather than removing it completely like they've done with so many ( if the engine and program cooperate, anyway).

I'm quite sure when the Devs forced us to accept changes like these that they felt they were improving the game for us. I'm not suggesting any of the "improved" items were bad - I'm just making the point that new versions of items should always be ADDED to the game instead of being forced on us as REPLACEMENTS beyond our control.
|
P.S. The Devs need to give us a new version of female Bikini 2 bottoms with the "Sleek" texture so they can match up with the "Sleek Tights" tops.
|
Ditto for the Shorts 1-3 and Athletic options too!
This mask, which according to the costume text files is called "Mask 1". It differs from the currently available masks in that the mask does not cover the chin and lower jaw.

The "Witch Bare" option for the female form was available for monstrous legs back when the Magic Booster was introduced ... At some point this combo was made unavailable.
Would be nice to have that back and to be able to add to and/or edit other items onto that character's costume. |
What I'd also like to see return is the original Winged Boots which had a full body "blur" effect in addition to the waist-down version we have now.

I -think- there is a jacket missing, but I can't for the life of me remember. It kind of looked like a cross between the Motorcycle and Racer Jacket, done up to about the middle of the chest.
