All Things Art: 'Lost' Costume Pieces
Gonna second the Bolero + Wings being brought back. If it's multi-capes that cause problems, fine. But if the wings + lower cape don't, why exclude them?
Also, I'd like to see the legacy "chopped" tails back. They were never an official option, but it's what tails would turn into if you used them with trench coats, the bolero, and maybe a few other pieces. I love the new changes with tails, but even if I use the legacy ones, I can't get the chopped ones back with these costumes, effectively ruining them for me.
Notice how short the tails are and how they stop before they clip with the "butt capes" of the two pieces.

I believe that the Malaise pattern was unique from day one. IIRC, it only worked with cargo pants that were tucked in.
Luckily, I still have them in one costume slot.

Another lost costume piece from the CoV beta was a face option called either "wrapped" or "bandaged". It was a face/head that was completely wrapped in bandages except for the eyes. I'm not sure why access to it was removed.

Also this option was taken out but I would love to see it back since clipping issues have been ignored (and for good reason - it works sometimes!) in more recent belt options but I'd love to see the Small Fanged Skull and Skull Belts added back to Jacket options. They were taken out so my character can't ever go back to the Tailor if I don't want to lose his belt. In this particular case I love to use it as a skull belt buckle! It's reverse of the other problem - Female toons still have this option. Male and Huge do not.

What I'm saying is: don't block costume piece combinations or remove/revamp costume pieces just because they clip. Because you're never going to be able to prevent all the clipping problems anyway - trying to do so is a lost cause. Give us more choices. Don't take them away. You just get unhappy players who want the old stuff back.

Hey, folks. I'd like to explore the idea of bringing back old costume parts that, for whatever reason, have fallen out of the system. So I'm turning to you, our esteemed veterans, for some historical knowledge and, ideally, names plus screenshots. I've seen a few examples posted on other threads, but let's consolidate that information here if possible.

Bug that sort of falls into this category: Wings + Bolero or Cape + Bolero or Cape + Coat with Tails combos. These were in briefly. Removed for performance issues I think? Anyways, a few folks out there were able to secure their costumes before this bug was smashed, disallowing all future combos. In some cases, these combos lead to some really great costumes.
Related but more of the inverse, ever since i17 and the release of Ultra Mode, edited costumes with shields no longer shows their patterns. This comes close to killing a couple of my costumes. Luckily I have two I've not yet modified and can still keep my patterned and logo'd shield. |

I think it was during a beta period, or something that never made it quite in, but I remember seeing screenshots of a Union Jack cape. I think it was something to do with Hero One, and it was just a bug that made it available to players, and thus it was removed before coming onto the live servers but... well, that would be awesome! Especially if you could put in lots of different countries. Now that would be customisation!
Also to add my /signed to the request for the old thigh boots (I miss them) and the fur shoulders which I didn't see at the time but which look awesome.
If I had the time to go through all my old screenshots I'm sure there's something that I've forgotten about along the way...

ALL the original human faces from City of Heroes launch are disabled.
After the CoV expansion, some players complained that the "villain faces" were duplicates of the "hero faces." Those players were wrong. They are, in fact, darker, sharper, frownier, more villainous looking versions of the original human faces. It takes a sharp eye, but close examination reveals that not one is an exact duplicate. Nonetheless, the original human faces are disabled, so the only way to have an original human hero face is to have it grandfathered in and never visit the tailor. |
If so this would be the highest priority to me, because that is why I only use a few of them.
A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!
Two things off the top of my head, one which may have been a glitch, one which may have never existed in the first place.
1) wrap skirt (was not named this) I suspect this was a glitch where one of the current miniskirt patterns got twisted so the side-seams showed up in front and back instead. I didn't realize it at the time and so I thought it was an awesome wrap skirt. To me, it looks more like a real skirt than the version we have now with the seams down the sides. I would love to have this back (or a version of it), as I've had to change this toon since then, so she lost it. |
I would really love to see this made a regular option in the game. No wonder I haven't been able to replicate that costume for other characters.

I think this backpack was made available for a short time through a bug, but it's still a missing costume option.
Back in the beta for VEAT's, we had the ability to have more than one Soldier of Arachnos costume. This was done by adding a new slot, which copied over the current SoA costume to that slot. We could then change it to a normal costume or keep it. Then we could change the first slot to a new soldier costume. I think it'd be awesome to get that back.

A slightly better way of doing this would be to make the extra costumes editable. Say, leave slot #1 (the first one, /cc 0) as VEAT only. Then the second (#2) slot is Regular Only (story reasons). Then slots #3 - #5 are selectable: Drop down selects regular costumes or the VEAT only selection screen. #6 (the current bug) remains as-is: not selectable or editable at all.
I realize this is likely extra-programming, but I assume that re-instating any "lost" costume pieces will require some effort, so I thought this could go in the same resource bucket. Just my 2 Inf.

See, there were several teaser videos released for City of Villains, before it was even in open-beta. One of these involved someone (Positron?) narrating while flying around Port Oakes. I can't recall exactly if it was his character or a second one, but in that video a werewolf type person was shown, and they had ripped beast-leg jeans. Not that baggy ripped crap like currently is in, but tights-jeans with ripped knees. It never made it into beta. Why? It was great for anyone playing a transforming beast. I've always missed it. Having perfectly clean, hemmed beast-leg jeans is stupid if you have just transformed or are a wild crazy feral son-of-a-.

Whats the problem with Clipping any way do they fear some one is going to make "CLIPPING MAN!" and run around showing off the flaws in the CC? If they did would we care? NO.
Seriously some clipping looks good and the stuff that looks bad people wont use unless its intentional. We also have a report function. I don't think this is a real issue or reason to restrict costume pieces.
From the CoV Beta:
- Fur Shoulders (Both the shoulder only and full chest versions, both seen in this thread)
- Pirate Shirt
- Wrap Face (I think it's the face that the ninja pets have)
And other stuff:
- Malaise pattern
- Trousers with a pattern on the top and the bottom
- Non-shiny versions of the now-shiny costume pieces (this was mentioned in the other thread, but this seems like where it should be)
Also, it wasn't ever available to players, but I'd kill for one of those Troll heads that I have been smashing for 5 years.

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

I know I have a picture somewhere someone made of some of the changed hairstyles (Flip, Wedge and a couple others were changed). I'm still looking for it.
In the meantime, here's a fun example. Here is the first CoH character I ever created:
He's using the old "pointed ears" option, which we can remake with current ears options, so that's not a big deal. But he's also using the old style jacket and especially the old style pants that let us have different patterns on the upper and lower legs; here, he has flames on the lower legs and nothing on the upper legs, so the flames are shorter and not stretched out.

The Wedge style didn't originally have a peak in the front center; the banks went basically straight across. The Flip style is extremely different.

I don't remember if we got a reason, but the original Thigh High boots were slimmed down for whatever reason, would prefer the old version back.

It's a bit of a pet peeve to me, because some of my favorite costumes are no longer reproducible, as the new "super-sock" boots look terrible compered to the classic ones.
Above all else, the "calssic" thigh-high boots are the one "lost" costume piece I'd like to see come back. I will see if I have any pics on my home machine.

Anyways - I'd like to see the old pointed ears back. I just read that maybe you can make them look almost the same if sliders are used? I dunno. They never seemed the same to me. I'd love to see these again!

I'm not sure if this 'fits' in this thread, but whiskers look pretty awkward.
Maybe make them 2d sprites or something that doesn't look like spikes? I don't
really use this option at all, though I see it on others and it looks pretty nuts to
me.
Anyway, ignore this if you rather not see this here.
Another for bringing back Bolero with Wings. We already have a red name (babs? bah, can't find it now) saying that wings with cape-physics isn't a big deal. The theory is that Bolero with Capes needed to be removed so all Back options were removed.
Please bring this back!
One aside:
I now many options were removed due to problems with clipping. It would be some work, but if there were a mechanism to check for clipping that players could actively enable or disable, then there would be no room for players to complain about clipping.
This obviously would involve some non-trivial tech, but it's just a thought.
