My son sets up his Ben 10 figures and has them team up against each other trying to gain the upper hand and playing off each others strengths until his giant robot comes into play and then everyone goes flying and Ironman joins them to turn the tide.

Yeah, that was kind of what I was referring to. These guys give me nightmares in daytime. That's kind of why so many people (myself among them) complain about lack of knockback protection - because everyone and their grandma does knockback in the high levels. Something as simple as walking tree slaps or guard batons have the potential to send you flying back, and that's just cheap.

In general, control effects of any kind on minions are just cheap, simply for the fact that minions are EVERYWHERE in large numbers, so if you don't have protection, you're screwed. If knockback were restricted to larger or special enemies, then I would actually love the power, because it would fit. But when enemies literally toss you like a salad... That's just no fun.

Actually, if I had my way, I'd never have instituted knockback PROTECTION at all. I would have merely made protection powers transform knockback into a version that you recover from much faster. Think about comic books and cartoons. For instance, Spider-Man gets knocked backwards, he spins around in the air and lands on his feet. Or, say, Colossus gets git with a powerful blast, but he doesn't fall down, it just pushes him back a short distance.

That sort of thing would have ensured knockback still mattered, but it wasn't so badly debilitating.

But who knocks back Superman? Only guys like Darkseid and Bizarro.

Wow, it's like a meeting of Knockerbackers Anonymous in here.

You guys have your fun, and I'll cherish my collection of KB protector IOs. Everyone wins.

Please try MA arc ID 351455, "Shard Stories: Scavenger's Hunt." Originally created for the Dr. Aeon contest, it explores the wild potential of one of the City's most concept-rich but content-poor settings: the Shadow Shard.

Somethings like generators and Mole Machines have to much knockback. Like the Generator in Marshal Brass's first arc knocking you off the bulding and halfway across the map.

Knockback = awesome! I take my 50 blaster out and use Power Push on thugs in the Hollows just to watch them fly out of targeting range. I have to watch it though in teams, Energy Blasters can make an enemy out of other heroes fast!

That's exactly what makes things epic... I mean it requires a little imagination but basically you see yourself fly half way across town and impact in a building like you're in the blasted matrix

I'm not talking full-blow knockback here. I'm just talking knockback comparable to how Hover was before it was fixed - not fast enough to really matter, but still there for our viewing pleasure.

Favorite thing to do on my scrapper:

1. Get mobs' attention.

2. Run behind a wall or other cover.

3. Crane Kick the first sorry SOB to come around the corner.

4. Watch previously mentioned SOB bounce back down the hall like a bouncy ball.

I also like crane kicking people over the side of buildings, railings, or out of mid-air (for aerial enemies).

It's also kinda fun to get KB'd cause, at least for me, soon as my toon hops back up it's like "ohh....ohh you done it now."

Also, even though Eagle Elaw doesn't cause KB, it has to be the most epic attack I've seen so far.

I'm guessing since we are getting Kin Melee that some Enemies will be too. Oh the joy, it will be KB galore XD

My favourite KB is the Rikti bombs. When they explode and I fly literally to the other side of the map, hilarious.

Crane Kick the most retardedly fun meelee power I've ever had on a Scrapper. Great damage, great KA-POW! sound and a flying enemy all in one package.

Would only be better if that "KA-POW!" appeared on screen a la '60s Batman.

KB in City of Heroes is overused. In my opinion, no minion (or indeed any class of villain lower than bosses) should have any knock effects. If KB was something that you didn't have to worry about every Tom, Richard, and Harry using, then every single meleer wouldn't feel the need to have KB protection.

I also feel the same way about most other control effects. Control effects from mobs should be short and relatively infrequent. If you had did that, then even things like having your status protection root you could be OK.

As for players, I'm all for KB, but again it should be sensible. Melee KB should be of the same character as critter KB: infrequent, dependable and meaningful. I love Power Thrust in Energy Manipulation because you know it's going to occur, and it's only one power that you don't need to rely on for DPS.

As for ranged KB, I think that it should be more dependable and less frequent. One or two powers having guaranteed KB is great. Having multiple powers with KB as a variable effect sucks.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

And Rikti Bombs are right there too!

I used to set up action figures in their cars and set up the video camera to record them doing wide arrays of crashes and stunts.
Then we'd watch them in slow motion and freeze-frame over and over and over... their articulated bodies flying through the empty windshield and through the air and crashing into things... Ahhhh
Not positive where this puts me! (*looks around* Oh, it puts me here.. that makes sense!)

Seriously... One of the "epic" memories that I think of what got me loving this game was some Boss fight I had in the lower levels street sweeping my way through one of those tunnel/overpasses in... Gah, I can't recall which zone it was in (But there are some in Atlas... pretty sure it was higher level though)... Just the back and forth of knockbacks and slamming into the concrete walls in a tough fight, popping greens and break frees and being sent flying across the street and into the passing traffic.
Knockbacks are epic.

I agree. The knockback in most of Energy Blast's attacks, Shockwave, Gale, Crane Kick, etc. should all be changed to knockdown.

crane kick? this is "from my cold, dead hands" territory. knockown has moves thst it makes sense for, crane kick makes sense to knock back, i have to vigorously disagree with your entire list, really.

I love knockback oh so very very much. I love giving it, I love recieving it, and the only thing that can make it better is ragdoll physics or more knockback. As such I cannot wait for Kinetic Melee, I so look forward to knocking enemies off of Praetorias new shiny building.

I actually love that huge KB! Ditto when a Fake Nem blasts me onto my butt.

I don't mind the occasional knockdown/back. What I can't abide is flopping around helplessly either due to lots of minions having KB or a power like Earthquake.
