Knockback makes things epic

I love KB. My first 50 is an Energy/Energy blaster. I love making the bad guys fly all over the place, it is one of the most super feeling things in the game IMHO.

I actually would love it if CoH did KB like Champions Online. That was one of the few things that CO did really well IMHO. My Might character (Super Strength is the CoH equivalent) could KB enemies about 50 or 60 feet back, and about the same distance up in the air...and they would take damage when they landed. One of my favorite things to do was get a bad guy down to about 1/4 health, the do a big KB attack and they would be defeated by the falling damage. Now that was epic!

You are... nutty. Taking the KB out of powers like Shatter and Crowd Control was a good idea, though it did take out a little of the visceral feel. It did make the War Mace set work better, though. Your suggested changes would remove the visceral feel of those powers, and not help the sets, either. You can pry the KB in those powers from my cold, dead hands.

That's about the only thing I wish for from kb in this game still. I loved KB in X-Men Origins... Colossus could punch guys back into walls or enemies, causing extra damage from the impact. That was pretty cool stuff (and it sounds like CO did a nice job with that).

If you have no knockback protection you go flying, and I'm sure it's epic, and you get up and you're all "oh, it's on now!"

If you do have knockback protection, the repel effect still sends you sliding halfway across the map. On your feet. It's not epic at all.

Ah, but it can. Put a Kinetic Combat chance of Knockdown proc in it. It's knockdown not knockback, but it makes more sense for the animation anyway. When that proc fires, it is truly epic.

Also epic: Ragnarok Chance of Knockdown proc in Full Auto.

Not as epic but hilarious: Ragnarok Chance of Knockdown proc in Caltrops.

Totally epic: Trip mine.

Not so epic: Enemies getting knocked back to get stuck in the walls on cave maps.

Epic: Using Tornado to get them out. Any problem caused by knockback can be solved by more knockback.

crane kick? this is "from my cold, dead hands" territory. knockown has moves thst it makes sense for, crane kick makes sense to knock back, i have to vigorously disagree with your entire list, really.
Same same here only from the Energy Blaster perspective. I don't want them to be on their back here, I want them on their back over there. If I want them on their back here, I'll just get above them first and smash them to the floor.

The annoyance is the players that don't know how to use KB "properly" (word subject to varying definitions; offer void in South Carolina and Iowa ), not the KB itself.

I'll miss her; but I won't miss this headache.

KB is epic. So epic, that the first thing I do for many characters is have a higher-level sibling craft them a -KB IO. Nothing is more fun for me than a sewer full of Council spamming KB, at level 10 or whatever! Well, the only thing more fun is a Storm person running amok without a care in the world as to what it is their powers actually DO, but its a near thing.

Makes me thankful for IOs, yes it does.

Well, "Epic" has many forms! Not always positive!
Hehe... But, look at it this way... Knockback is so Epic that it made you delete your toon!

Epic makes some happy and makes others cry! That's why it is epic!

Knockback... It made me laugh, it made me cry... it's epic!

The best way to take knockback up a notch to 11 in the awesomemeter. Add some knockup. SS tank/brute tee's up the mob. Energy blaster knocks em out of the park.

Also the best pvp fun (before all your silly IO's!) was king of the hill in arenas, on the Steel Canyon statues head. Killing (read: arresting) other players with a KB attack to send them falling to the street.

Some people have powers to knock you down (Witches with wind powers), some people have powers to not be knocked down (IOs).

I love the Spider-man reaction idea, though. It would be nice if Acrobatics DID something, instead of simply negating the KB.

My pet peeve is people who refuse to acknowledge it when I tell them my character has unlimited power. If I rp attack them they are of course disintegrated beyond the ability of any hospital or magic to restore. Yet despite this they refuse to delete their characters and still keep playing them as if nothing happened. ~Mandu, 07-16-2010

Bad players can make things annoying no matter what their powers. They can aggro extra groups, or do whatever to tick you off. Removing KB from powers that it makes sense in is not going to help your problem.

I would agree that KB could be implemented a little better in game. It could cause damage, as I suggested earlier, and be more dynamic. It would also make more sense if fewer mobs did it (just bosses, monsters, etc. doing it... or something). It's pretty good in game and I love it, but there is room for improvement.

I love knocking back my enemies. It makes me feel powerful! I especially love making my Knockback power(s) the last blow I deliver. It makes for good ragdoll fun!

I think this is the core of the problem for me: that especially in the lower level game, it is so very widespread. Council Grenade people? Check. Family gunners? Check. Force Mages? Check. Hellion [or is it Skull? Or both?] Buckshot people? Check. Its just all over the place.

If it were only bosses, or only giant monsters or or both, it would be much more bearable but it feels like every 3rd NPC has it. This is much less of an issue now that we can mail stuff to ourselves - and prior to that, I was just getting a friend to mule the IO over for me, so it wasn't insurmountable even then - but the amount that is in there now just feels spammy.

Even a negative event should awe me with the essence of inevitable defeat. Force Mages force-bolting me over at level 10 does not make me feel this way.... I feel kind of annoyed, or maybe I think "Yeah, Such-and-so is definitely gonna be crafting Lowbie Boy here a -KB IO the instant the Exit sign comes up!," but feel a doomtastic frisson of direful awesomeness I definitely.... don't. Mileage will vary.

Most /fire Tanks and Scraps suffer from KB Death. Not insurmountable, but a real annoyance when you can't get off a shot because your getting ping-ponged all over the place.

Well, at least it makes more sense on Lieutenants, rather than minions. Council can get annoying if you don't have KB protection as their marksmen have kb, and their lieutenants have their grenades. If it was just the lieutenants, it wouldn't be so problematic.

It's tough, too, as it usually makes sense. Hellion and Skull lieutenants with shotguns kind of make sense for knocking you down, so it's hard to say that should be removed (and at least they have short range... you can immobilize them and they can't fire back at you at all, heh). But at least they're not as prevalent as Council's KB.

I don't even notice Force Mages. I'd rather face them than the other types of mezzers and debuffs CoT get. And I'd say that it makes more sense for them to have it, at least.

Heh, I bet mobs are more cheesed about all the kb we have than the other way around. Mobs in the Hollows hardly got a shot off when fighting my En/En blaster the other day, he was juggling them about so much.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

You know what I don't like though? AoEs with a chance of knockback. It's not 100% so the mob scatters, instead of all going flying into nice convenient nearby wall.

You know what I DO like? Shockwave. Shockwave is so much fun I spam it all the time, when I'm solo and there's nobody around to annoy, even though I'm Willpower and would in some cases be better off not doing that.

I was wondering what that was >.<

And I do admit, when you're standing there staring down a blue mook and all of a sudden you're flying through the air, yeah, it's pretty annoying, but that still doesn't beat what made me start this thread in the first place with an AV turning and swatting me off a roof so I looked like Superman from "Returns" after he tossed away the "island" falling to the ground only to get back up, dust myself off and fly back up for more.
