While I'm glad you were able to make it to PAX East at Boston, for me, you may as well have been holding Hero-Con again. Boston is as much of a problem for me as Hero-Con: Too far away, and too expensive.

So, I'd personally like to see you come to Florida SuperCon (June 18-20). Plus, since Jorge Garcia of Lost will be there, that means The Wife™ would have a reason to go...

Still, I think Dragon*Con would be a good choice too.

the more i think about this and i realize that dragon*con is prolly out due to dates and conlfictions with other cons, I think Gen con is the right choice. I fully remove any support i previously had for dragon*con and cast my vote for GenCon indy.

As a suburbanite of Chicago, I have to agree here. Conventions held "IN" Chicago are currently subject to union rules that drive up the cost to the presenters which would be passed on to the attendees.

Although, Rosemont has convention facilities it is also run by a family interest (not "the family" of Chicago lore, but close).

Indianapolis is a good choice.

I'm really disappointed that there won't be a HeroCon this year. I planned for it all year, and looked forward to it more than anything. Thank you for a great two years. I'll be at the next one... if there is one.

Origins is a pretty good con, but I don't think there is enough time to get it together to go there. Ditto Wizard World Philly.

Dragon*Con would be a great choice, but since it is the same weekend as PAX, it would mean splitting your resources, which may not be fun (or feasible).

So I think your best bet is GenCon. It's in the midwest, doesn't seem to conflict with anything else, and is wildly popular. Plus, there is still plenty enough time to give us ample notice if you'll be there. I have to echo what other people have said and politely ask that you give us more than two weeks' notice that you'll be at an event, and please don't wait until the event is already sold out!

I think it would have been nice to have known this when before PAX, so I could have attended that since it was closer to me, instead of saving money for an Invisible HeroCon Date that is now no longer being considered.

Coming to us is nice, but a bit more consideration is better.

While I will still hope for Dragon Con but seeing as its the same time as PAX I will be throwing my vote out for New York Comicon.

Come to Dragon*Con!

Every year, we have a standing-room-only crowd for the CoX session; plenty of fans, no one from the game itself. We spend a lot of time discussing what we THINK the Devs are up to...

Who cares if it's the same weekend as another convention? Don't they have more than one Developer? Heck, we'd be happy with the Paragon Studios receptionist! She'd be showered with love and affection from a roomful of fans, especially if she brought us free stuff (or at least some good scuttlebutt about what REALLY goes on in the office!).

While you're right... It "would have been nice"... What they're saying is that the result of going to the Boston Meet and Greet led them to this idea. So, they didn't know this beforehand.
I think they're being awfully considerate. I understand your predicament, so I don't mean any negativity towards you.
You know how it is... Things don't always line up for us.
I do hope something comes up that you can head to (Maybe the final option will work for you).

Sounds like it was the turnout at the PAXEast meet 'n greet that convinced them to do this, so they couldn't possibly announced it before PAXEast since apparently no one had the idea at that time.

Regarding Chicago - I think they're talking about renting a room at a local restaurant for the night and hanging out with folks over drinks and free appetizers. Since they want to schedule it around an existing convention, they might be considering hosting a panel at the con, and possibly, but probably not, a booth. However, I don't think they are talking about throwing a HeroCon style 2-day bash with panels and costume contests, etc, so I don't think union rules and convention costs would have anything to do with it.

Thing is, you're normally presenting the material to two almost completely separate audiences.

ComiCon: Comic book readers who do some gaming.

GenCon: Gamers who might do some comic book reading.

Also, even though it's that close, such presentations aren't wasted even if identical.

Also, such Q&A sessions aren't just about "List Item #1, List Item #2, List Item #3, etc, etc). It's about the interaction with the community. 15 years of convention attendance (on both sides of the table) have taught me this.

Yes, but these things have a value that goes well beyond the con.

What's revealed there will be reported on gaming news sites. Videos will be posted online. It's free press AND a demonstration of fan enthusiasm at the same time.

When your events are mere weeks apart, you dilute your news or your biggest fanbase already knows everything you're going to say & show. Either way, you don't get the market buzz that'll help justify the cost of the presentation.

Yes, conventions are worth more than that, but if you can get BOTH out of a convention, you're a fool not to.

----
Finally, these things sap you as a professional. The devs would be going from pre-launch crunch time to ComicCon to post-launch fire drills to GenCon in just two weeks.

I'd rather they recover, hit Pax West with all the enthusiasm they can muster, then maybe look for something in Mid-October in the south or central US (as unlikely as that may be, since it seems outside of big convention schedules) where they could again gather media attention with Incarnates previews.

I'd still say GenCon has a strong candidacy, it just wouldn't be my IDEAL candidate.

I'm glad meeting me made such an impression on you all at Paragon Studios that you decided you had to do it some more!
Wrong - meeting ME at the Boston Meet -n- Greet was the highlight for them.

Heck, Posi mistook me for some guy he campaigned with (and probably owed him some $$$).

Considering that the main summer convention season is really only about 10-11 weeks long, you're ALWAYS going to run up against the "I heard about this already" issue.

You're talking to a guy who does these as full 7-day events including transit times. I'm INTIMATELY familiar with how they sap you. One of the reasons I'm glad I can work my day job from home after I get back.

Only if they're sending the whole cadre of senior devs. And, if they are, they have enough people to set up a VERY easy booth rotation. If they get sucked into a bunch of gaming after the hall closes and the M&G is over, that's their business.

I'd have to say Origins is probably out. That's still pre-GR and only about a month out. As such, everyone with even peripheral ties to Paragon will be in the offices, glued, chained, strapped, and welded to a desk.

Considering that the only other major candidate in the time frame is another costal con... I don't think there IS such a thing as an "ideal" candidate.

On the bright side, if it DOES go off at DragonCon and I'm able to attend, my WiMax provider will service me down there. Live and streaming over the net right from the M&G.

Heheheh.

I have to vote for Gencon in Indy this year.

My suggestion for future years.
Restore Herocon,
1 west coast event that can cover NM, AZ, CA, and all the rest out that way,
1 south for Georgia, Carolinas, Florida to Texas,
1 east for all the rest of the northern east coast and eastern Canada,
1 midwest for Ohio, Michigan west thru Dakotas, Missouri,
1 international to hit England, Europe, South America, Australia, and Asia.

They could rotate where in the regions to spread the love.

awakened death 50 necro/dark mm, Necrospider 50 Crabspider, Death's Hunter 50 claw/regen stalker, Inhuman-Rampage 50 DM/WP brute, Xander the Protector 50 Kat/sr scrapper, Phantom Force 50 Ill/Rad Controller, Friendly Persuader 50 Inv/Wm tank

Now, I'd love to help Europe get some lovin' too, buy you guys across the pond have to help us make your case.

The devs have said that they wanted an EXISTING CONVENTION / EVENT to attach this to (that doesn't conflict with the already-set dates), not just a location. As surreal and entertaining as a trip there may be, "Amsterdam" does not qualify as an "event"

never anything close enough to ventura county is there?

I'd love to see something in the chicago IL area.It is considered a hub for flying, has trains/buses to surounding areas, and it is possible to drive from the neighboring states in a 4-6 hr timeframe at the worst case.Thats my vote for a north/centeral location.

Not a fan of grammar, spellcheck or proper sentences. But will have fun anyway

Close enough for what? To walk to? From what I can tell San Diego is a three hour drive from Ventura county (unless there's one somewhere other than CA). I think 90% of the people in this thread would love to have a meet 'n greet withing a 3-4 hour drive of where they live.
