I did, and I can sum up what I recall as at least 90% of the responses:
1) I can't or don't want to leave my city of residence.
2) I can't or don't want to leave my state of residence.
3) I can't afford it.

Seriously, what would you expect Paragon to do about ANY of these things? Appear in every major city in every state and European country? Pay for everyone's travel and accommodations? Not being sarcastic here, just pragmatic.

Quote:
There has been plenty of discussion on the barriers of getting to Hero-Con in the forums in past years. Yeah, years - plural.
Please refrain from overdramatizing this. Two (2) IS a plural number, but they haven't been doing HeroCon every year for the life of the game.

And, let's be honest here. HeroCon is a marketing FAIL for them. Does it entice new players into the game? No. It was directed entirely at the existing player base. It was a great thing, went to both, can't thank them enough. But yes, after some rather glum introspection on my part, I agree with their decision to discontinue it.

Now as to making appearances at various gaming and comic conventions, I couldn't agree more. But getting back to cold, hard economic facts, they're NOT going to appear at all the nice little comic or gaming conventions across the country that have merely a LOCAL draw. GenCon? Good idea. WesterCon, PAX? Sure. Phoenix ComiCon? Hey, we're a big city here, c'mon! Nope, no point. Does it draw from out of state? Heck, out of TOWN? No? Sorry Charlie.

And as for Europe... well, the economic barriers that keep European players from coming HERE work both ways. And again, no sarcasm intended - DOES Europe have any gaming or comic conventions that fit the rather simple criterion of "Bigger than local draw"? None of the three I attended while there (admittedly over a decade ago) seemed to.

The sooner people get over their individual wishful thinking and/or sense of entitlement, the sooner we can all get back to making sincere, well-considered recommendations, rather than all the hair-pulling, teeth-gnashing, sackcloth-and-ash-wearing that's been going on ever since the "no more HeroCon" announcement.

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

I would like to vote for Origins AND Gen Con... I would be able to attend either of those.

Maybe even the Chicago one but it would require slightly more effort. Then again... Chicago is probably a way more interesting place itself than Indianapolis or Columbus (been to both... meh).

So, all 3 of those get a vote from me. :-)

Also, I know I don't speak for everyone here, but if the M&G is in Chicago, I'll have my minor son with me, so could *some* consideration be given to the under-21 crowd?

Such as?.. It's a pretty subjective request, without knowing how old said minor actually is. Day-care, for example, is unlikely. In the 13-21 range, they're legally able to play the game, so it seems logical to engage them in the event right along with the rest of the crazy people.

I believe Naq's referring to the fact that some of the M&G's have been in restaurants that are 21+ only. So the request isn't necessarily for extra care for minors, it's to not restrict the gathering to 21+ only.

Yeah--sorry--should'a been more specific, there. No need for a daycare.

I wouldn't bother apologizing Naq. You were plenty clear enough for anyone not trying to find an arguement and it is a good point. Since the game is made for teens and above, the location needs to be friendly for anyone in that age group to attend. Heck, even the "after hours" stuff should be kid friendly since I would want to take mine along to all the events if possible, especially if we had to travel any distance to get there.

I am very sad there will not be a hero con.

Hope you got your tickets to SDCC months ago if you plan on going because they are all sold out.

I think what he's getting at is that if it's held in a bar or an over 21-only location, that would be mighty inconvenient for younger City of Heroes players. I agree; whatever venues they decide on should be open and appropriate to teenagers as well.

Edit: Whoa, time warp. I think I was looking at an old post. Weird, I thought I clicked on the little "latest post" arrow. Anyway, I see that this has already been addressed and answered, so never mind...

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

I don't know how every state works, but in the ones I have lived in you can only get between 10% and 15% above the ticket price before you are breaking the law by scalping. It makes it fairly unworthwhile to scalp that way. Who knows though, different states, different laws.

I imagine that we are close to some sort of announcement on what the final location will be....

Go Team Venture!

If you check e-Bay, people are selling 4-day passes to SDCC for anywhere from $300-$600 each. I'm not sure exactly how that works, since you can't get your actual badge until the Wednesday or Thursday of the convention, and you're supposed to show a photo ID that matches the name on the confirmation print out.

As much as I would love to be able to upgrade my measley Thursday & Sunday 1-Day passes to a full 4-Day pass, and as willing as I would be to pay hundreds of dollars to do so, it just seems waaaaay too risky to send a stranger on e-Bay that kind of money and trust them to show up, stand in line to get the badge, and then hand it over to you.

Keep your eyes on the SDCC Twitter account (@Comic_Con); I got a Sunday 1-day pass last year in June because they started putting up refunded/returned passes on eBay in batches. I believe last year was the first year they did that, and it worked really well!

Yeah, I signed up for that as soon as someone, maybe you, mentioned it before. Just wish I could figure out why I can't seem to get the updates sent to my phone.

I'd like to point out that the Devs really messed up at Dragon Con last year. They owe us one in 2010. My SG on infinity was represented by about 15-20 members taking up the back row of the room we were in. This year we are expecting 50+. I might point out not only was it a slight of no devs, but also they sent the completely wrong schwag. I agree the devs need to visit Euorpe, but Atlanta is wayyy closer to Florida. I should also mention that an even bigger slap to Dragon Con is that the person in charge of the MMO panels is also a player of COX. C'mon Devs this is your challenge. You needa be at D*C* this year.

Sorry to throw my vote in so late but I would love to see you guys at GenCon or at the Wizard World event in Austin during November.

I wonder if those tasked with the decision simply haven't decided yet, or are waiting for something. Here in KY, I can affordably get to Chicago, Indy, or Atlanta, but would need to plan for the trip, so if anyone in the know is reading this, some info fairly soon would be welcome..

Well, we can scratch Wizard World Philly, which is this weekend, and probably Origins in Columbus, which is two weeks from now, off the list. Since Dragon*Con is the same weekend as PAX in Seattle, D*C is probably out too. That narrows the most likey sites/cons down a bit:

ConnectiCon: 7/9 - 7/11 Hartford, CT
Gen Con Indy: 8/5 - 8/8 Indianapolis, IN
Wizard World Chicago: 8/19 - 8/22 Chicago, IL
Dallas Comic Con: 8/28 - 8/29 Dallas, TX
New York Comic Con: 10/8 - 10/10 New York, NY
Necronomicon: 10/22 - 10/24 Tampa, FL
Wizard World Austin: 11/12 - 11/14 Austin TX
