Sorry, but this year's April Fools Day joke just seems a LOT weak. Especially compared to the "Visual Sound Effects". Try harder next year guys!

I noticed that ruining and then not touching PvP for several years was not listed as a failure. Nor was the fact that the red side of the game STILL only has about 25% of the content/maps that the blueside has. Don't bother listing side switching as additional content either since that is simply a cop out. Didn't even mention that failing to add almost anything after the inception of bases was a failure.
Good thing he didn't list those three things too, that might actually make the game look bad. -
If y'all haven't read this, you might want to follow the link back and do so. It is one of the best, most well thought complaints for this game I have ever seen. Even if you do not agree with him, you have to at least see his point.
Bravo Fiery_Redeemer! -
Quote:Same feeling I am getting. Seems to have moved from money AND community oriented as it should be to just money oriented. I'm not a PvPer, but how long has it been since that system was ruined for the people that do like participating? Or how about going back and fixing mission text or doors that you have to rezone/relog in order to actaully find?It really bothers me seeing, I feel, the focus of Paragon Studios moving drastically farther and farther away from the community. I don't think I'm the only one that feels that Paragon Studios has little to no interest in a community that has existed since before the game even launched.
I am guardedly and cautiously optimistic about new communication and new red names, even though it seems to boil down to (thus far) a new advertising press release to read once a month.
Please prove me wrong.
I hope I am wrong, I just don't see it. -
I admit to being surprised here. Pleasantly surprised. Thanks Paragon Studios.

I don't do it often Nether, but I have to agree with your first sentence there.

Quote:The very first time I ever got on the forums about six years ago, one of the first posts I read was someone asking to have the Freakshow made into costume peices OR as a single full costume. That person even said they would be willing to buy it if necessary. After several dozen people chimed in that they agreed and/or wanted a different enemy costume I moved on.How the heck can they have been "Clamoured for as a 'for sale' item nearly sine day one of the game" when they have only been around for only HALF of the game's non-beta existence? Three years, not six. Your hyperbole runneth over.
Now with me starting to play the game a few months after it was first released, that isn't exactly day one, but pretty dang close. Incidentally, I didn't go on to the forums and make my own forums account for a couple years after that due to the bad taste it left in my mouth. But that was do to some fighting amongst people on the forums that thought they knew everything and yet DIDN'T.
With that being said, they have AVOIDED selling these "All or Nothing" costumes now for around six years when they could have been making money off of it. -
Quote:I was referring to the selling of the costume codes, which to date I have not seen happen. They may have started the temp and perma temp powers later in the game, but it has been clamored for as a "for sale" item nearly since day one of the game. The Costume temp powers started in 2007. If I remember correctly the permanent Costume Codes started at Pax 2008, with the PPD Hardsuit.
With that being said, they have ignored a possible revenue source for a long time now (over six years). I can say (again) that an all or nothing costume does not excite me as it is too limiting and and just cheap by my standards, but I also realize that many people in this game would love it and have no personal qualms about them selling these costumes for a tidy little profit. -
Quote:They may very well EVENTUALLY do that. But if history is to be learned from than we can safely say they won't. After all, they have . . . Six years . . . of not putting these codes for sale in the stores to make money off of? I will agree that if they do try to sell these costumes they will make some money, but I for one will not be buying an "All or Nothing" costume. Too limiting and just plain cheap for me.well it could all be a marketing ploy,ok tin foil hat time, they give away codes, lots of people don't or can't get them due to being at work, etc. Then a thread like this starts, people complain and complain, so the DEVS be nice and "create" a costume pack, and they "listen" to our complaints and sell the codes for 14.95 or even split into two packs at 9.95,
we say TY TY TY. then get out our credit cards, NCSOFT laughs all the way to the bank.
We were "nudged" into doing what they wanted us to do. -
Quote:No, he's just one of the most immature posters here. Now if he actually came up with some good ideas instead of just troll posting I wouldn't mind. He seldom does though that I have found.the more people whine about vet powers being mean to the 'casual gamer' the greater the enjoyment they bring me.
they've kept me subbed through some times when I'd have likely turned off my account, so in this case at least they do the job they were designed for. -
Yea, I highly doubt they will get it either. They have an absolutely horrible record when it comes to contests. Last time I counted it was seven out of the previous eight contests had some form of screw up involved. That doesn't even include the discontent this "type" of contest creates for people that have a real life outside this game.
Anyways, I offered my idea of how to run a better contest that actually rewards the player base earlier in this thread, maybe they will try it NEXT time. -

Quote:Rather short sighted post there. I DON'T own a cell phone. Though I could easily afford one, I see no reason to have a cell phone when my home phone allows me to call anywhere in the USA for $40.00 an month. I can do it at any time and for as long as I want. There are no "extra" charges for ANYTHING. I see no reason to waste any more money on a cell phone when I have everything I need in my home phone and for much cheaper than almost any cell phone plan.In this day and age, everyone owns a cell phone. Twitter and Facebook can send messages to said cell phone.
*Gasp* Astounding revelation, isn't it?
And don't give me the "What if he/she doesn't own a cell phone?" argument. If he/she is paying for CoH and can't afford a cell phone, then he/she has other priorities to worry about and should probably cancel his/her subscription to save money.
Neither of my teenage children, nor my spouse has a cell phone either and for the same reasons. There are plenty of people willing to throw money away for the apparent ease of owning one of those things, but my family is not among them. There are a lot of people out here that do not own cell phones for the same reasons or even different reasons, to assume that "If he/she is paying for CoH and can't afford a cell phone, then he/she has other priorities to worry about and should probably cancel his/her subscription to save money." is just short sighted and immature.
The truly humorous thing about this "give away" is that instead of using it as a possible Christmas gift to all the players of this game, it is instead geared only toward those people who for some reason are drawn to social networking sites. You can't even legitimately claim to be using it as a defacto "Advertising" scheme since only people who "subscribe" to the sites for the game would get the info and only people who play the game are going to "friend" them. In all I find this to be ANOTHER disappointing "Give Away/Contest" from NC Soft/Paragon Studios. -
Quote:You may be right GG, they did not promise us the rest of the Alpha Slot with Issue 20 BUT, this quote from the GR homepage does seem to say just that pretty clearly:OK, I got thinking about this over the last couple of days and I have to say it's starting to bug me. They released the first half of the Alpha Slot (enhancement wise) with Issue 19 and tell us the rest will come with Issue 20. I really hope that doesn't mean we will only be getting half of a slot with each Issue. If so that means it would take more than 6 years to get all 10 Incarnate slots (assuming 3 Issues per year that is). Then I got thinking about it some more and realized that if they release only one slot per issue, then that still means we would have to wait over 3 years for the full Incarnate system. I hope I am wrong in how they plan to implement this because, having played for more than 6 years now, I am not willing to wait for this game to be more than 9 or 12 years old before the full "End Game Content" is implemented.
"Each Incarnate slot offers multiple trees or branches that you can select from, allowing for greater customization of existing powers and even letting your character gain never-before-seen powers. Every major content update will reveal new Incarnate abilities."
I did some pretty extensive searching here on the forums and couldn't find a whole lot more specifics. If you can, please feel free to post a link or a source, then I'll be happy to look at it. Until then please take your pathetic little wink someplace else because I don't trust your "special knowledge". -

Has anyone actually managed to see any of these blocks of codes here in the NA forums? According to the original announcement there was supposed to be blocks of codes posted every business day starting last Wednesday on EACH of the three avenues (twitter, facebook, and CoH Forums). Yet I can not find a single one of the three posts on these forums. Maybe I read it wrong, but I think it was pretty clearly stated. Anyways, has anyone even seen a post here in the forums with these codes?

Quote:Your probably right. If memory serves me well, last year the servers were so unstable the first week and a half or so, that there were tons of complaints about the whole event. At least until they fixed it and then extended it to appease people.I predict the servers will go wonky over the long Christmas weekend and they'll extend the Winter Event as a compensatory gesture.
History repeats itself.
Personally I wouldn't mind one bit if they did extend the event a few weeks. It's not like it really affects any zone except Pocket D after all and the ski slops are a kinda fun little "mini-game". -
Quote:Ah yes, the typical "entitlement" /end rant post. I think what is pretty clearly being said by most people here is that they would like a more "fair" method of winning that allowed everyone to have a chance, not just people who are social networking site junkies. Most companies whose employees use computers purposely ban/block these sites to keep productivity up.... I don't understand why everyone is acting so entitled. The costumes are being given out for free! This is not included in your membership fee. Chill the hell out.
So how about this, why don't you "Chill the heck out". -
PvP was shelved as a Non-Concern a long time ago. So if something suddenly decides to stop working there, I wouldn't count on a quick fix. Not trying to be pessimistic, but realistic. Though I really don't care about PvP very much myself, I do hope they fix that for everyone that does pretty soon.

Since you guys seem to have trouble coming up with a decent idea for a contest, here is one for you.
Track who logs in for the period you mentioned. For every two days they log in, they get entered once in the contest. That gives people who play more a slightly better chance of getting a code, while making it so people who do not play don't get a code AND is more fair to people who actually have a job. At the end of the period draw XX entries from the pool and e-mail them their costume codes OR just apply it directly to their account.
Just a thought. -
Quote:The thing is they should know how to fix the toggle dropping bug. It has happened a few times in the past.
Spaghetti code. That's what this is, spaghetti code.Quote:6+ years of it, mostly by people that aren't with the company anymore.
If you know the reason why it's happening already, why complain? If it were easy, they'd have fixed it by now.
Personally though, I am hoping something is done about the server instability. I have been "Mapserver'd" more times in the last week since Issue 19 went live, than in the entire three months combined. If I had been playing during peak hours maybe I could understand, but I mostly play during non-peak hours and every time this has happened to me was a non-peak time but one. Did a Statesman TF last week and almost everyone was "Mapserver'd" at least once and one poor guy had it happen at least three times in each mission. At one point he even said he had never had it happen before and couldn't understand what was going on. -

Quote:Now that is a question I can get behind. Good call.Never mind the free respecs
when's the next free character server transfers going to happen?
With all the changes in-game thanks to the Incarnate system breathing new life into retired 50's, I know I have several I'd love to transfer to the servers I'm now most active on. -
Quote:I have to agree with both parts of your statement, but at the same time I can't blame the guy for feeling like he's being gypped.I'm guessing you'd prefer they not offer the 12+2 to anyone, if they can't offer it to everyone? I suspect that saying so directly would be viewed as more constructive feedback than a sarcastic "Nice job".
Otherwise, blaming the company for something you admit is outside of its control makes relatively little sense. -
Was going to say something here but I see two posters already beat me to it. I'll just walk away with a casual "You did it to yourself" as I shake my head and shrug.
