Instant leveling fromNCSoft?
Firstly: Suggestions & Ideas is over there >>>
Secondly: If people had the option to start out at 50, there's a good possibility that the lower-end game would suffer because of it, due to the lack of population & interest.
Thirdly: What's to do at 50? PvP and a few high-level TFs? Sue, you can always exemp down for lower-end stuff, but for what purpose? To get Influence and Merits for IO enhancements that would be mostly beneficial while leveling a character?
Actually, if you can tell me what the benefit of having a max-level toon is, I might be more inclined to agree. I just can't see the benefit.
Addendum: gold farmers hurt the game, it's true. But beating them to the punch in regards to NCSoft monetizing the problem with such a theoretical service is tantamount to saying "You can't cut my arm off! I'm going to do it myself!" Without the long-term appeal of leveling a character, there's little reason for many to play... especially if NCSoft starts encouraging the practice themselves. Why would anyone subscribe for months at a time when they can just get max level characters at the drop of a hat?
Is this a joke?
Here we go.

MArcs:
The Echo, Arc ID 1688 (5mish, easy, drama)
The Audition, Arc ID 221240 (6 mish, complex mech, comedy)
Storming Citadel, Arc ID 379488 (lowbie, 1mish, 10-min timed)
Its ok to disagree and say 'bad idea'. I'm just bored and figured i would toss it out there.
I'd hate to say it but that would be one way to both make extra cash and possibly drive off 'money' sellers and 'paid' power levels.
There are after all those free games who do the 'special' money for real money to get those rare 'can't get without special money' items.
I'd rather not put my pocket money where my game is outside what we already got but there are some who would pay more to get extra 'offered' services.
Yeah, it'd be really cool to have a bunch of level 50s running around who are completely inexperienced and clueless about their powersets. I'd definitely love to team with them! *rolleyes*

We have those now. Though the inexperianced would be replaced by "How in the 'L' did you manage to get so far?"
People shouldn't get pissy about this idea because it was actually suggested in a marketing survey a couple years ago.
I give this idea the tag: Anchor - will sink the game.
By far the biggest mistake any subscription-driven game can make is to start selling levels. Yes, they'll probably make some cash off the impatient and filthy rich, but how much cash are they going to lose from people cancelling their subscriptions in a huff of ragequit?
The moment the speed of progress becomes proportionate to the size of your wallet, this stops being a game and becomes an insult, in my opinion.

I almost missed that... they actualy did have a survey with this question in it?
How big of a storm did that cause?
It's not a good idea. Thats pretty much all I can say for it. It defeat the point of the game, is all
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

The fun in this game lies in the journey, not the destination.

Unless you have completed the journey dozens of times, in which case it loses alot of the fun factor.
I would do it in a heartbeat. I PvP, and that's pretty much it. I haven't leveled a character legitimately in over a year, and have no plans to till at least GR because the PvE is so damn boring now. Payed auto-level would keep me playing (and paying) for far longer.
Yeah this is a bad idea. Level 50 is overrated, my only lvl 50 toon is pretty much gathering dust at the bottom of the toon list.

i think i need to start making some targeted marketing surveys.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
i don't follow. So, if something appears on a marketing survey people are not allowed to disagree with it from then on?

Of you honestly believe that marketing never has any bad ideas, you're either terribly gullible, or terribly inexperienced. Either way, you're terrible.
My story arcs: #2370- Noah Reborn, #18672- The Clockwork War, #31490- Easy Money
Sartre once said, "Hell is other people." What does that make an MMO?
Simply a bad idea.
It's been tried in other subscription based games with disastrous effects. The most notable one is that it depopulates the lower levels creating the impression to the newer player that the game is dead. With the heavy instancing this game has and the large amount of veteran players, CoH already is plagued by this particular impression. Nothing should be done to exacerbate it.
One of the few things I like about CO is option to auto lvl a character on test via a contact. That could work great to test new content or new powers without the need for the Devs to bump us via update. I thought that was were the OP was going.
I would dislike any MT for lvls on live.
Champion
Pillars of Might
Darc Ranger [Blas] / Darc Nebula [Cont]
The Bikini Patrol
Darc Lighter:51-[Blas] / Darc Lady:50-[Tank]
The Panty Raiders
Aegis Magnus [MM] / Atomic Spector [Cor] / Dominar Sefus [Dom]
MEGAFORCE
-Darc Ranger [Def]
Bad idea, etc.
That said, if they ever did do this, I'd want is accessible at any time. Thay way, once I hit lvl 43 or so, I could say "screw it" and pay my $10 to be level 50
Horrible, horrible, horrible idea.
People would pay for an instant level 50 and wander around for a while, having NO idea what they're doing, and they'd be saying "Where's the CONTENT to this game? There's no raids? Where do I PvP? ZOMGWTF!!! Why do I suck in PvP?!! This sucks, I quit!"
Then they tell all their friends "Don't play City of Heroes, that game sucks, there's nothing to do in it!"
All because NCSoft offered an autolevel feature.
I would however, be okay with it on test, and ONLY on test. You cn't transfer a character back to the live servers after leveling on test, so it probably wouldn't hurt anything.

I think a modified version of this idea would be fine.
For example, Once you acheive say 48 month vet status, you get to autolevel one toon, once a year.
But sometimes people THINK they want something, but in fact they really don't. The toons that I've powerleveled have been the very first ones I've abandoned or deleted. If it were offered, I'm not entirely certain that I would use it.

I was just thinking the other day about the PLers. How would your guys feel if Paragon/NCSoft offered you the chance for a small fee to start out as a 50? The character would start in AP with 0 inf and badges, just like a level one, only you need to go see a trainer and 'level up'. This might help to put the paid PL sites out of business. It will also give players a chance to not have to level grind another character and would be another source of income for the Devs to work with. Maybe $10 for 'Auto Level' option?
