Discussion: Two Ways to Get Going Rogue
So the rundown:
COH:GR Expansion Cost - $29.99 (€19.99 / £17.99) Prepurchase available: March Requires COH/COV No extra game time Only option for early access to Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning (on Live) Digital ONLY. COH:GR Complete Collection Cost - $39.99 (€29.99 / £26.99) Does not require an existing account (new players want this pack) Includes game time Available Digitally and Retail No "goodies" for retail preorder (like prestige sprints or arachnos helmets.)* No prePURCHASE (retail can do preorders.) Available July COH:GR Complete Collection Item Pack No cost announced No game time Upgrade for COH:GR expansion Available launch day July. |
I will also buy the GR Complete Collection at my local retailer.
I have zero issue doing this, and I am on a tight budget. The prePURCHASE is what I'd pay to go to the movies, twice. The Complete Pack, two dinners out. I am willing to adjust my spending to add to the enjoyment of something I love to play.
As for the prePURCHASE of GR Complete Collection. I'd like to see as an option, if just to keep down the NCsoft Store lag on the day it does become available. Still wouldn't go active until launch because of the new zone, but it should be an option.
* I see this is a move to curtail the theft of preOrder codes. As some have already stated that they do by purchasing a preOrder, using the 'goodie' code then cancelling the preOrder.
Edit: I could see no retail boxes outside of the US being an economic one, but how are we supposed to gain more European/Pacific Rim/well everywhere else brothers and sisters without the visibility boxes on the shelves provides?
Just point me in the direction of all the stuff and who gets the check!
"Samual_Tow - Be disappointed all you want, people. You just don't appreciate the miracles that are taking place here."
You only get early access to the powersets, not Praetoria.
Perhaps they titled it that way because what you're purchasing is Going Rogue? The initial post was made near the end of the California business day, your post was made before most of them rolled out of bed the next day. If you're still confused, Memphis_Bill really summarized it well: |
Unless in your infinite wisdom & intellect all GOING ROGUE EXPANSION is consists of two powersets.
Sry, but I don't think you brain bashed me as well as you thought when you typed that response to me.
When did NCsoft hire Bill Roper?
A very "Cryptic" post if ever there was one (drum roll-boom tish, etc)
Now is the time NCsoft should be going all out to get more subscribers by advertising, etc NOT by trying to squeeze the LOYAL players for extra bucks by making em fork out lots of cash cos they choose to run multiple accounts and have stuck with the game all this time.
Do they not read the CO forums? cos there was a royal shitstorm over their "paid" expansion and Cryptic ended up with their tale between their legs.
Not enough info or posts on here anymore, well we will remember when they bring out CoH 2
So I can't pre-purchase it at retail and get access to the two new powersets? Guess I'm waiting then.
Ya I'm nitpicking. The title suggests GOING ROGUE EXPANSION, not access to two power sets.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
Just a thought: the pre-purchase availability of the powersets is a shrewd move, I think. Basically, not everyone will go for that (I'd say most won't - look how good the complete collection is), so it turns the folks who do go for it into walking ads for Going Rogue. They'll be out there teaming, playing with folks, showing off, etc.

A winner is you!
(This might annoy some people, but it's actually really good marketing this time.)
My question is this: when is the new endgame system coming out? Before, With, or After "Going Rogue" comes out?
I'm one of those weird guys who has been playing for almost 6 years with multiple accounts. So, I've got a lot of level 50s, and I've got about 10 guys I want to get to 50 before GR. I won't make it, but I want to. Because until this new endgame system comes out, who knows what it will entail? Maybe it will be so engrossing that I wont be able to complete my ongoing "hit 50" projects, some of which include Dual Pistols and Demon characters.
Basically, I'm thinking I should get early powerset access so that if (or rather when) the new endgame content comes out and screws me (making all my level 50s who don't participate obsolete) I'll be closer to "done" on all my projects so that I can grind on this new "keeping up with the Jones'" endgame crap. I kinda wish they weren't having a new endgame system. If I only had 3 or 4 level 50 characters, I wouldn't mind at all.
Oh well, I'm going with early powerset access UNLESS that's when the new system comes out also, in which case my decision will depend on what exactly the new system does.
Blah.
Independent of that, I found the announcement straightforward, and the choice is fair. $40 ... you want early access or game time? Simple, Easy, and up to you.

But that doesn't include the pre-purchase access to the powersets. So how much is it if you want that, plus everything included in the 'Complete' collection (including the months gametime)?

It's all pretty clear in the opening post. I really don't get why people are having such trouble understanding all this. That OP is one of the most clear news posts they've ever written imo ...

No, both of them are GR the expansion. But the Complete Collection is not available for pre-order, and thus does not have access to sets early.
I still do not understand the logic behind it, myself... |
In other words, early access to the new powersets effectively costs $15, or $5 if you don't want the emotes and costume pieces later.
Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)
Mechmeister, level 50 Bots / Traps MM

Looks like I'm waiting, then. I'd have thrown down $40 for a Complete right here to avoid the inevitable store-server rush on the July release date. Busy servers and credit card information is a bad mix. Pistols are fun, but I'm a long time vet and I have the loyalty badge. I'll get my fill of the powersets in beta. I'd rather have a free month. That and I have enough active characters as is, for the time I play.
I would like if the Complete Edition was put up for pre-purchase a week or two before release in July. As I said, busy servers and credit card information is a bad mix.
In short: I'll buy the digital US Complete Going Rogue when you're willing to sell it to me. Not the lite edition, no matter what powersets I get to try early.

Seems a little odd that you can't pre-order a collectors edition.

Im sick of paying for expansions in games only to have them included free few months down the road - will GR do this as well? If not, ill get it.. but if possible, then i wont :P
Well, I'm not thrilled about the lack of pre-purchase for the complete edition. If I could pre-purchase that it would be a no-brainer as it is I may or may not go the pre-purchase route depending on whether I decide to make a DP character or not. I understand the rational, as someone mentioned above it makes a lot of sense from a marketing perspective and I don't hold it against NCSoft, it's just kinda irritating .

What do you think you're buying when you pay your money for this stuff? You're buying the Going Rogue Expansion. As a nice bonus for doing the prebuy of the expansion, you get early access to two power sets. Are you seriously asserting that when you spend your $30 you're not prebuying GR?

Even if it doesn't get made free it's a good bet that it will drop in price, in a year or so you'll probably be able to buy it for half the price (even less once you factor in the free month). Video games always drop in price the question is how fast will it drop and how long are you willing to wait for a game to save a few bucks?
This is the same rational that someone above mentioned NCSoft is using for the two different purchasing methods. A decent portion of the existing player base will opt to pre-purchase the digital edition (and probably the item pack) which is a much higher profit margin for NCSoft than the retail pack. The retail pack makes a smaller profit for them but it serves as advertising to bring in new players. It's also serves to capture some of the consumer surplus from the existing playerbase, those with higher excess income (and a lack of patience) will pay more than those who can't or won't.
This thread is, again, proof positive that people will, in fact, find a way to complain about anything.
Like many in this thread, however, I am happy that new things are being added and equally happy to pay for them, without quibbling over differences in price that amount less than a single lunch, nor caring about the format in which they can be acquired.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this but I would assume if you get the Ore-Order thingy that gives you Demons and DP early you also get to download the Rofue files in advance of July. Personally I'm thinking that is incentive enough to get it, not a fan of waiting 13 hours for my computer to download. COuld be wrong but I don't think so.

Enjoy your day please.
Just found this at ParagonWiki: "Activating this power shifts you into a semi-real shadow-state. So long as you are not attacked and remain motionless, you will have extremely good stealth rating and be nearly invisible. This power has a long, interruptible cast time and always takes 10 minutes to recharge."
Huh? An interruptable stealth power that means you can't attack or even move? So you have to not have any agro before using it and once you do you can't move. So it's good for when you're waiting around for patrols that you already know are coming towards you but don't have time to get behind a corner but do have time to deal with the "long interrupt"? Not nearly so drooly any more. Now I'm just more confused. Sounds more like the vet-pets in usefulness than, say, Mystic Fortune. I was hoping for something closer to the middle. |

Just a quick suggestion. I haven't dug through the thread, so it may have been mentioned.
Would there be any way to flag accounts which prepurchased, and then the flag would trigger a free month if that player ALSO bought the collectors upgrade?

For those, like me, who like specific breakdowns (and to give a different way of looking at Bill's breakdown), I present the following:
Here are the different things that are going to be available:
Early Play of Powersets
Access to GR At Relase
Boxed DVD
Box Perks
One Month of Play
I'm adding in "One Month of Play" because one of them gives this free but everyone who makes any of these purchases is assumed to be playing for at least that much longer after said purchase. Since one can not get all of these things with any one purchase, they each have partial availability and therefore can be assigned partial costs, as such:
One Month of Play -- $15 (standard cost)
Boxed DVD -- $0 (just where/how you buy it)
Box Perks -- $10 (I find it impossible to believe they'll price this differently than a booster)
Early Play of Powersets -- $10 (priced out like a booster just because)
Access to GR At Relase -- $15 (Most expensive version - (cost of Early Play + Month of Play)
The different ways of buying them are (note that when I say "value" I'm only talking about price points, not subjective value):
Option One: Digital Pre-purchase
--Early Play of Powersets ($10)
--Access to GR At Relase ($15)
--One Month of Play ($15)
--Total Value: $40
Missing Items: Box Perks, Boxed DVD
Total Expense: $45 ($30 pre-order + $15 month of play)
Option Two: Digital Pre-Purchase + Box Perks
--Early Play of Powersets ($10)
--Access to GR At Relase ($15)
--Box Perks ($10)
--One Month of Play ($15)
--Total Value: $50
Missing Items: Boxed DVD
Total Expense: $55 ($30 pre-order + $15 month of play + $10 Box Perks)
Option Three: Complete Edition (at time of release)
--Access to GR At Release ($15)
--Boxed DVD ($0) (If you want to go to the store)
--Box Perks ($10)
--Month of Play ($15)
--Total Value: $40
Missing Items: Early Play of Powersets, Boxed DVD if you buy digital
Total Expense: $40 (Just the CompEd)
Of course there's also the option of buying both but there's no way in hell I'll be doing that so I'm leaving it off.
The important thing to consider for each person is the subjective value of the Early Play of Powersets and Boxed DVD items. Since I have the Loyalty badge I'll be in beta and have them that way. I also kinda/sorta want the boxed dvd so I can keep the install media handy instead of going through that damn long d/l (which is very likely to be even longer once the Ultra-Mode engine gets put in). Therefore it seems like I'll be waiting and going with option three. It's $5 - $15 cheaper and I get my boxed dvd.

A quick shoutout and thanks to the players. Had a few messages off you US players saying you can organise shipping out a box set to us if neededm very friendly *thumbs up*.
I aint going to complain too much but us EU players were under the impression that the reason that we didnt get the AE box set over here was because of a future box set to be released. I could be mistaken though obviously.
Will certainly be buying it one way or another though obviously, just a shame i cant have a box set within easy reach.
