Just got my copy as well.
One thing I noticed on the GR notes details was this Quote:
|
Even though I know it's there, this still doesn't change... I'm going to have a harder time waiting now, but I'm still waiting anyway.
|
So why doesn't this change? Why are you still waiting till midnight? Just wondering out of curiosity... I can't even play to later tonight, but still bought mine at work lol
i tried ordering mine but no go it says
"We're sorry, but we are unable to accept your order at this time. Please try again later or tomorrow. If you continue to have problems, you may wish to visit one of our retail partners."
im hoping this gets fixed soon
The thing is, it's not just $10 or $15, it is the simple fact that I have been playing for 63 months. Now I have gone and paid for the GR expansion (as I havee bought all the booster packs and such). but here you can have someone brand new to the game, never played it at all, get all THREE games for ten dollars more that what I paid for the expansion. They get the item pack and a free month of time. Where I have BOUGHT coh and paid the monthly fee......then I BOUGHT cov when it came out. Stop and figure this for a minute. I spent $30+ for coh when I got it, I spent $30+ for cov and now I just bought GR for another $30. Now count in all those monthly payments for not only me but for my wife as well (and buying the games as well) THEN your going to tell me that someone can spend $40 and get ALL THREE games and an item and a month of play!!!! AND I will have to spend more money to get the item pack and NOT get any more play time to boot! For the VERY first time I feel like I am being ripped off by ncsoft! Depending how they handle this will also depend on IF I keep playing the game or not. Once I have the feeling of unfairness and a company, I never deal with them again. This is the ONLY online game I play and as much as I would hate to leave it, that is just my nature.
Doing some figureing:
COH $45 (when it first came out and I bought, might have been $40 but am pretty sure it was $45)
COV $40 ( I waited a bit for a sale)
Wedding pack $10
science pack $10
Martial arts pack $10
Cyborg pack $10
Monthly fee for 61 months $915 ( I took into consideration the 2 months free for buying coh and cov)
GR $30
That comes to $1060:00 over 5+ years time!
So now you tell me why some noob to the game can spend just $40 and get an item pack and a free month for just $10 more than I spent on the expansion and get access to everything (except vet stuff) that I can and then some? Just not right......not right at all!
It isn't even the fact that they get all 3 games, but the month of free time AND the item pack! Compared to my loyality and time and money in the game and I get no free time and have to pay extra for the item pack?!?!?!? something tells me ncsoft is getting greedy and starting to find ways to put the thumb screws to us old timeres who have been their bread and butter for years.
I would suggest that they watch what they are doing here very closely. Times are hard and while (IMHO) they are the best game in town....they aren't the only one. Last thing they need is for their loyal fan base to start feeling cheated........like I am with the way this is looking at the moment.
I would suggest that those that prepurchased GR get the item pack for free (since they already pard for it basically) and let the complete buyers get the free month and all 3 games for their extra $10 paid.
While I wouldn't turn down a free month it isn't that imprtant. But to make me pay more for something that is (as I and others see it) part of something I have already paid for sems like a rip off to me. If timing is part of the problem, fine don't make them available till GR goes live, but don't punish your customers over your greed.
lrn2read before ranting.
You can get the same deal as all the evil, cheating noobs out to screw you over. Just don't pre-purchase now, but get the complete collection in July. I know I'll be doing that.

1. Nothing lasts forever
2. You won't always be at the top of your game/industry
3. New and better things are always on the horizon
4. If you cheat your customers, eventually (not soon) the loyalty leaves and so does the customer
5. You can and will Fail!
Number five is the most important one to realize; however, you can mitigate your losses, and styme the mass exodus by providing superb customer service. Treating your customers with the same loyalty and respect they give you is a sure fire way to keep your customer loss down, when you hit the rough times. It is time for a change NCSoft, please do it not only for us, your loyal (but for how long) customers but, do it for yoursleves. My final thoughts are a story I would like to share with you. It is about a company called Reliant Energy in Texas. For along time they were top dog among the energy business, and they were really great. Then they realized their wasn't really any competition and raised their prices, customer loyalty was high, so they stayed the course. Eventually, they raised their prices so high, and the customer support became so terrible that customers begged congress to do somehting. What happend was a lot of new upstart energy companies were able to come in and take over the business of energy becuase the prices for Reliant were locked and they couldn't come down to match the other companies. They, as the ufamism goes; "painted themselves into a corner" and paid the price, loosing many customers. You have a choice not to do that to your customers, so don't.

I have 2 accounts and purchased the GR codes one right after the other, using the same card. The trick was that I used PayPal on the second one. I always do it that way when purchasing the perc packs. Hope this helps someone.

Come March 5th, I will have been playing for two years. I am always ready and willing to help new players who have come from other MMO's or who have started playing as a result of the Free Trial.
I was in AP messing around with my Defender(bet you can't guess what my secondary is :P), when someone was looking for some help with beginning missions. So I helped, and it turns out he came from WoW. He said he is truly enjoying the game, and is having "alot of fun". He asked about the booster packs, and I told them what they were(guilty as charged: I have them all like most). I gave him a big welcome and gave him about ten million influence to start his new character off. We exchanged email addresses, and I gave him the list of sites that could help him out, namely the paragon wiki and Mid's Hero/Villain Designer. I think I have secured a loyal player .
I guess what I'm trying to say is that new players having access to the all the cool stuff like the booster packs and early access to the new powersets DOESN'T BOTHER ME IN THE LEAST. I have also seen people post that the early access to VEATS and HEATS at lvl 20 is bothering them. They feel slighted. Again, who cares if new players can have access to these Epic Archetypes at 20? Let them, I say!
City of Heroes/City of Villains is a GAME. Designed for one thing: TO HAVE FUN. HELPING out new players whenever I can(information, IO creation, TF runs, etc.) is my idea of fun, and I can tell you from personal experience that by HELPING instead of HATING, the game has become so much more fun. I have developed GREAT FRIENDSHIPS on this ideal, and will continue to do so.
Thanks for listening, everyone. Now, LET'S HAVE SOME FUN!

But that's okay, maybe Demon Summoning won't be all that, I wouldn't be surprised since there's some level of disinterest in making Mastermind primaries due to the limitations of their function, I.E., they only work for one AT. But maybe I'm wrong, and it'll be over-the-top awesome to make up for the fact it's for only one AT. One thing's for sure: The Mastermind population will go up, but only due to Petless Masterminds; Whip "Dominators" will be crawling all over Virtue- Or at least their pets will.
If you or someone would be so kind as to answer a couple of questions, I'd be very happy.
- The pre-order (expansion only - vis DP and DS early) gives you how many free additional character slots?
- If I wait and get the GR:Complete Collection (because I'm some what tight on cash for the last couple of years) and add it to my account, will I get free additional character slots and how many would I get?
- Are the additional server slots place-able or are they (hopefully) 4 per server like City of Villains?
- a 63+ month vet that (has always bought 6 months subscriptions) that bought into the full year subscription during the November Loyalty Pre-Re-subscribe offer (my account wasn't due for a re-subscribe until January so I'm go through like 2011 March or something at this point) - yeah, I'm here for the long haul ...
...just looking for INFORMATION and the sight and what I've been able to ferret and squirrel through the boards seems to be incomplete and some Smoke and Mirrors still. Just looking for clarity in this darkly lit mirror world that is soon to be and is slowly filtering its way into existence...

I don't know of a better place to ask this. (if there is a better place, please reply and let me know)
This is the discussion thread for "Two Ways to Get Going Rogue".
As there is a difference between the other two in other areas, I think these are very valid questions.
I hear that those that have the Pre-order/Early DP/DS Expasion did not get extra character slots.
I saw on the website that we were going to be getting extra character slots.
Please explain about the Extra Character Slots.
Thanks.

meh...well, I guess I see why there was no answer yet...
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=213180
I know the pricing doesn't seem fair to some vets, but for the purpose of greater success of the game as a whole, doesn't the pricing need to be this way? Isn't that generally the way it is with MMOs? I know that when I bought Star Wars Galaxies two years ago, I got an F-ton of expansions right in the box, and all for a price lower than the original game came out for.
The price for someone getting in for the first time has to be substantially lower because these are new customers the game is trying to attract, who have not seen fit to play the game before, and need some massive enticements to draw them into the fold and expand the gamer base. You have to facilitate getting them hooked first.
Let's face it -- we're easy marks. CoX has to focus their benefits on the harder to get. They can make it up to vets in other ways.
The main issue is that we can't pre-purchase the complete edition, which is just nonsensical.
I'd like to give Paragon my money, but I will not waste a month's subscription time because of some harebrained marketing decision.
Honestly, it's standard practice to try and roll-up the existing game in the new expac when one is released. (We did this in GvE, and now again in Going Rogue... FFXI, as comparison, does this in every expac, as does WoW.) It's not to slight the existing fanbase, it's done to make it more accessible for new players, so they don't have to go buy (in current case, 3) different versions of the game to get it running at full force.
And remember, a lot of the numbers people're throwing around right now includes perks (which new players WILL have to buy separately) and subscription fees (which are charged for the pleasure of playing the game; of course the new players haven't paid those -- yet). $5k in 5 years also seems a bit high... but meh, I won't judge anyone's individual math skills. I know I've been playing since i6, and I'm pretty sure I haven't even hit the $1k mark in total costs (game, perks, upgrades, subscriptions) -- and yes, when I started, you had to buy CoH and CoV separately. I actually initially did it just so that I could work on my SG's base. Remember those days? >.>
So again, it comes down to exactly what I've said before (in this same thread, I think): If you feel that you want the opportunity to play DP and DS before July, go for the prepurchase. If you think several months advance play of DP and DS isn't worth that $15 (value of one month, at per-month pricing), then hold out for the complete edition, which will be in stores in July. Last I heard, those are the only perks in contention.
Sidenote: Alt, I got the prepurchase, and did not get any character slots. If this is an error or oversight, or if they go in when the game goes live still, I do not know. All I know is I currently do not have them. Does this answer your question? Possibly not. But empiric answers are all I can provide.
I know the pricing doesn't seem fair to some vets, but for the purpose of greater success of the game as a whole, doesn't the pricing need to be this way?

Didn't need this for CoV for success.

I bought a couple of copies of CoV for like $2.88 a piece at one point and those will allow you to play CoH (CoH and CoV) with a month of play time. Heck these days you could load up the trail, play that for 15 days and then convert it to the full account and get 45 days of play time.
So you you could possibly get $29.99+$2.88 with 45 days of free-time (15 without DP/DS and 30 with DP/DS) if you wanted to get an old (unopened/unused) copy of the game on the cheap and get the expansion.
This wouldn't give you the booster pack part that comes with the Complete, but you would still get the "free time", but only if you are new customer.
The issue that I have seen brought up is about the "1 month" of play time not being included for the price.
To some people, saving that $15 is worth more than getting to use the DP and DS sets early.
People that need to save money should not be shown disrespect because they are tight on cash for whatever reason.
If that extra $12-15 per Expansion versus Complete is going to make-or-break Paragon Studios and CoH then the game is already in a lot of trouble.
No bantering in their defense can convince me that they need the money more than I do. I bought a year subscription update back in Nov in order to save money in the long run.
I guess everyone that is complaining that people that shouldn't complain about not getting that free-month with the expansion are buying their time one-month at a time because the DEV staff needs all the money they can get.
So even if you aren't buying your subscription one-month-at-a-time (at the highest price) stop complaining that other people aren't supporting the game enough by not buying the Expansion version without the free month.
Some of us are doing what we can to save what little we can practically everywhere we can.
The game isn't going down because they aren't getting the extra month fee from me or anyone else that is willing to wait.
CoH is a great game. I love it.
I do think it is a shame that they felt that they had to use this marketing tactic to get some extra bucks out of the part of player-base that has extra loot, but I guess they are the ones that should get fleeced anyway.
They deserve worse if they think they have the right to berate those that are low on cash.
Alt, this is ridiculous, $15 is like 2 coffees at starbucks or something. $15 is NOT hard to come up with, especially for someone who has no debt and has no mortage payment, so seriously, stop whining already. You sound like a spoiled child to thinks he is entitled to everything. I am not saying you are one, but that you are sounding like one.
Btw, constantly quoting how much you have spent in the last 5 years carries little weight, since a rather large portion of the current player base has done so as well. It is a cost of being entertained for 30 days for less than the cost of a few drinks at a bar. Pretty damn good deal.
NCSoft is doing nothing that every other MMO doesn't do. It is standard practice to offer 30 days when people buy the boxed games, as well as to combine them after several expacs have been released for the reasons quoted earlier in this thread.
Rather than look at it as the company trying to "fleece" you, i see it as them offering us another option rather than waiting until July for those of us who really want to play with the new power sets early. now THIS is something that not many, if any, MMO's have done and i love it!
They deserve worse if they think they have the right to berate those that are low on cash. |
I've also been told paragon studios new marketing campaign involves the drowning of a million puppies and that War Witch lives in a cabin in the woods and eats small children...
/sarcasm
come on, seriously...take a breather.
With that said, I am a bit disappointed that both sets weren't given to us as an option. But I understand there may be costume pieces or other goodies in one for GR that the devs aren't ready to release.m Plus, it makes business sense.
And this is precisely why I don't purchase my coffee from starbucks. 15 bucks for 2 cups of coffee IS ridiculous.
Alt_o_holic, you seem to think it's disrespectful for them to break the prices out the way they did, I happen to think it's disrespectful to ascribe the worst possible motives to them while talking about it. They're not trying to trick people. They're not trying to gouge people. They don't need the money.
However I do feel they deserve to get paid for getting work done early and letting us see and use it.
It was clear in the original announcements that there wasn't even going to be an Issue 17 this far before Going Rogue, much less early access to the 2 new powersets. If by pre-ordering I'm effectively paying for a free issue for the first time in 4 years? Then fine, it's worth it to me, even without counting Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning.
If you don't or can't afford to pay hard working people for doing extra work (and trust me, breaking out part of GR and beta testing it and publishing IS extra work), that's your choice.
But I don't think you need to try to make Paragon feel terrible for the choices they made. Not to mention looking poorly on your fellow players who made the decision to pre-purchase.
I doubt you get by on any less than I do month to month. Disability, Food Stamps, and a sweetheart deal on rent, the whole nine yards. I get my game subscription, and maybe one book/game/movie a month to keep me from going nuts staring at the walls. Yet I was happy to pay for GR early and resent being told I was stupid for giving myself a little treat that will keep me amused for the next 4 months at a minimum.
"Null is as much an argument "for removing the cottage rule" as the moon being round is for buying tennis shoes." -Memphis Bill
Agree with Lemur_Lad. I've no problem with the pricing. There's not a single MMORPG on the market that you can't get cheaper now than when released, or that you can't get cheaper as a package with the expansions (besides, clearly the cost of the game itself pales in comparison to the cost of the subscription over several years, yet that money is necessary for their extra development costs).
My only issue is with the lack of prepurchase of the complete package. If I'm going to get the new powersets, I want to start them in the new content. My main interest is to cross them over (desperately want a dp blaster in Rogue Isles, an MM in Paragon city...). So I have absolutely no interest in having early access to the powersets if I can't use the new content.

How much will the Complete Collection Item Pack cost? For players who wish to purchase the Complete Collection Item Pack separately, the Item Pack has a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $6.99 USD (€5.99 / £4.99).
