If they're customisable, you have animation problems, in that the correct animation and weapon customisation would have to be linked.
If you're proposing a set where some attacks are swords and some are basic melee, look at how often Fire and Ice melee get mentioned in threads about alternate animations.

I think your first link was to Iron Fist?
Just use Energy Melee. Color it whatever you like and say it has some psychic component in your bio. Who cares what the damage type is? - you punch people with glowing fists and they fall over at slightly different rates. Unless you're watching the damage log instead of the game screen you wouldnt know.

Similalry, a Psylocke-esque character could be played using Dual Blades as long as we had a weapon customisation, without the need for a new "Psychic Blades" set being invented.
I don't want to pretend in a pretend game that I'm already pretending to be a pretend Hero, to pretend to have psychic weapons and powers.

    ****NOW after that Hyperbolic statement****

Look I understand what your're saying, I just want to have a melee concept that is already based off of or using the Psychic concept that COX has already designed. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect that, especially given the new enemies with psychic melee attacks. I understand the flavoring aspect, but doing fire damage and calling myself a pschic flame starter or Pryokinetic is not what I want any more (believe me I have plenty of those toons). I rather have the design of psychic weapons or melee with said Psychic dmg and -recharge and whatever else they'd add to the power set, to choose from as well.
  2. Not sure where the best place to post this is for discussion; however, if I phrase this in the from of a question, I think it could work.

Who want to see a Psychic Weapons/Melee set? This is what I was thinking, already posted this in the Customization thread.

So here it is with some things to keep in mind regarding your suggestion.

    4) Pictures are worth a 1000 words, if you have illustrations and examples of images please link.

My suggestion is and always has been Psionic melee/ranged weapons. I have provided several pictures of some of the more well known examples of Psionic weapons. We, as a COX community have been asking for this for some time now. I believe it was number 2 in the polls behind dual blades. Dual Blades was made rather quickly, but we have yet to see Psionic weapons. Sometime ago I also made a Power set up that was an example for y'all to look at. I had all the powers up to the Tier 9. Is there some kind of reason, y'all as game designers have not followed through on allowing this Power set? I do know that everyone I have ever talked to on here and else were (people who have quit the game) have asked for this or wanted it. I have quit the game several times and everytime I state, NO PSIONIC WEAPONS as a reason for quitting. Yet still, no Psionic weapons. I now see Street Fighting, Huge Melee Weapons, and soon Staff. I like the new feautures y'all have integrated with Street Justice and Staff, really cool concepts. So, I thank y'all for not making Psion weapons until now; however, now is a perfect time to design and make. With all the creative juices flowing and all the 'New' money coming in, this should be a "Charlie Sheen-esque" WIN! I mean COX with the new Psionic weapons will be Psy-winning. Ok, bad joke. Hey if y'all want to be Bi-Winning, then add Psionic Melee too, ala these examples:

    http://www.google.com/imgres?q=Iron+...07KHCBA&zoom=1

Having fists glowing with Psychic powers, sort of like the current Dark & Energy Melee.

Hope this finally gets done, this is an example of something I found that would fit for powers and ideas:

Psychic Blade: self-explanitory, and for weapon customization, you can change the way the Psychic weapon looks.

Improved Psionic Weapon: Stronger Version, same idea with customizing.

Psychic Barrage: Flashing fists of fury and light, like a 3-4 hit combo, nothing as long as Dark Barrage (ewww).

Psychic Bow: Create an Energy Bow and Arrows.

Psychic Throwing Stars: Thow (short range) 'Chinese'/'Japanese' stars. Arc for range maybe like 10 max ppl 45 degree arc or something.

Oh yeah, that's the build I used to tweak my build previously. I really like my IO set up in the chain powers. As for the other attack powers; those IO's can change, the coveat being you lose the +Def.

Well, this is my omage character to Captain America, obviously. I have the physical perfection set and near capped Health for the minor regen, and end buffs, to go along with Cap. I want to be able to Solo, pretty much anything, including AV's and maybe attemp the Pylon and Rikkti challenges. Wanted to get the most out of my DPS, which is why I took Muscluture (this also allows me to skip Assault), took Ageless for the end and +recharge, and as you can see I'll be and end hog beast, so I'll need that. Plus the +recharge will get me within the optimal recharge range for the best DPS chain. That's pretty much it. Thanks.

Arcana or someone, Werner, Iggy, how can I improve this build? I originally had the guassian set in Focus Chi, but based on what y'all said, it is better to have it in for an every 10 sec rather than 30 sec buff, also helps with the end drain of FA. However, now I only have one slot o Focus Chi, where can I pull slots from and not screw up my build too much?

I don't think I'd bother, but if I did, I'd probably be doing it with Barrier and with a Gladiator's Armor.

Not that I've tried it, but on paper, I'm not a fan of Ageless. If I have endurance trouble, my preference would probably be to manage it with Cardiac so as to free up Barrier or Rebirth to add a whole lot of survivability. Of course for pure damage, I'd want Musculature. Then you either need to manage endurance the old fashioned way to get your extra survivability (Musculature helps a little), or you just go with Ageless and call it good. But seriously, you're not on a Dark Armor. You should be able to work something out.
I don't know, did you see how horrendous the End usage is on my character. I even took the Physical Perfection PPP, as this is my homage chacter to Captain America. I'll be playing him all day tomorrow after I go see the movie, in honor of opening day. So, his end sucks bad right now...also, SD was and has always been notorious for horrible end just like, albiet not as bad as DA. Also, you take Ageless not just for end, but for the +Recharge, +Recovery. That's killing two birds with one stone, instead of having a semi-longer lasting MOG or a longer lasting IH. Which either could fit my character Idea; however, I think Super Soldier and never getting winded fit better together. Especially, allowing me to take Musculature for the added dmg. I could defintely see me building for more recharge, and taking Cardiac Alpha and the Rebirth, but that's sacraficing a lot of other things I build into my build, i.e. Almost Max HP, 34% Resistance on top of 45% defense to all positions, and Super High Damage. I have so much damage from Reactive, Enhances, Musculature, and AAO, that I didn't even need Assault, b/c It wasn't adding any value to me when I was saturated with AAO. I know you said you were too busy to look at the build, but if you get a chance, blink it over and see where you think you can improve it.

QQ and I just got Dragon's Tail!
Have you've been here from the beginning, and I mean City of Heroes ONLY BETA beginning? I don't remeber when the poll took place, but it was before ED, I do know that. Regardless, they did have an official, this is what was in First: Shields (explaining why they can't do shields at that time)
    Second: Psychic Weapons
    Third: Dual bladed weapons
    Fourth-?: I don't recall.

I do remeber the TOP 3, b/c they made 1 eventually and made #3 as the first scrapper primary "NEW POWER SET"

I doubt that post is still out there. My post about Psychic weapons and what the set could look like, going from the 1st 2 powers all the way to the Tier 9...yeah not around anymore either.

Also, it was Psychic weapons, not weapons and armor. At that time, they were only releasing (Us Voting) on a primary set to be the new Scrapper power set in the game.

I mean, look at what they've already announced that is coming down the line: Street Justice, Beam Gun, Titan Weapon, Time Manipulation, Darkness Manipulation.

That's an incredibly huge amount of work they're doing at the moment!
Yes, but my point is still valid, WE as a community decided way back when, with a VOTE, mind you, that Psychic weapons/melee was the second (2nd) MOST requested POWER SET, behind Shields. At the time, SHIELDS required technology they did not have the man power to create, nor the time (company line or real, who knows). They finally did get Shields out; however, the number 2 on that list has yet to see the light of day, or even smell the green of earth. They've kept it locked away in a dirty dark basement somewhere. I mean, come on, if my fans on a VOTE, did I say a VOTE already...if my fans VOTED this is power number one I want to see, here is Power number 2, and here is power number 3. Well we can't do 1, so we'll do 3? How the he....l ......l does that work? Ok 3 was a success, and accpeted well by the community. How about number 2, and not that number 2, even though it has been flushed. Hey the players want this power set, it was voted number 2....COH staff, "Nah, they don't want that, they want crap they didn't ask for" OMG...what is going on at COX headquarters. I tell you this, I hope they are Obama's campaing managers come this next election.

No time to review the build right now.
So what do you take, to get to 59% defense? The only thing I can think of is the Barrier Incarnate; however, I think you get just so much more out of Ageless, that it is pointless to take anything else, at least for my build anyway. I mean I'm damage capped in most every attack. I know I don't need all of them, but they are fun to have. Of course, when I'm attacking an AV it'll just be the nomral HIGH DPS chain. That being said I really enjoy being able to attack with such a variety of attacks. Makes me feel like I'm more of a Martial Artist bouncing from target to target.
  10. So this converstation has gone off in another direction, but that's ok. Could anyone tell me how to get more out of my build then? If I move the Guassian to Focussed Accuracy, where would I pull 2 more slots to add to Focused Chi?

I've been asking for Psychic Melee weapons and/or Psychic melee with fists wrapped in Psychic auras (like Energy or Dark Melee, but not a reskin, something totally new), since the advent of Dual Blades. When WE, as the community of City OF...voted back in the day for the first new powers, number 1 was Shields, if I rember correctly, but they said it'd be to hard to do at the time. Second was Psychic Weapons/Melee. Third was Dual Blades, and some other stuff after that. What the H...E..double Hockey Sticks happend to OUR DANG PSYCHIC WEAPONS/MELEE? I want my FREAKING Psychic melee warrior with Psy weapons. I even made up a set for it and posted it...and recieved very positive feedback on my set. So if I can put something up as a fan, why can't they get cracking and release what the FANS want, HAVE asked for? This is the damn reason I left and tried other games, even other , dare I say, Hero games, that had psychic weapons and melee powers. Everytime I came back, and left, I would answer the, "what would bring me back question?" with PSYCHIC WEAPONS and PSYCHIC MELEE!!! BAH....Guess I'll have to leave again, and comeback when they get the FREAKING DARNED HINT!!!

I personally prefer Reactive Radial Flawless Interface (75% chance for fire DoT and 25% chance for resistance debuff). Since damage auras have 75% chance to trigger the DoT with each tick, this translates to a substantial amount of damage over time. On my DM/DA scrapper, when the fire dot goes off, it does about half the damage of Death Shroud per tick (assuming no Soul Drain), but it ticks faster. With 2 fire DoT ticks, I basically got an extra Death Shroud tick.

I could see a case made for single target focused builds preferring the resistance debuff. For a single target focused build, the DoT is of limited value as you'll be dropping each target rather quickly, so stacking DoTs will not be of as a great benefit. The same single target focused build could easily stack 4-6 of these debuffs, making each successive attack do more damage.

So in the end it depends on your build, your IO focus, and the other Incarnate choices you've made.

Virtually any attack that does damage has a chance to trigger the DoT. The attack used does not need to be a DoT.

I am not aware of an actual cap on the stack, but folks seem to not be able to stack (or not notice) beyond six resistance debufffs (from Reactive, you can stack from other sources). Assuming 6 is the maximum, it's possible to achieve 6 * 2.5 = 15% resistance debuff.
So, 15% -resist is like saying 15% dmg bonus..what's the bonus to damage for the 75%?

I don't see 240 DPS on a non-incarnate Katana, but I believe it's possible based on the calculations. So unless you see an error in the calculations, yes, I think it's fair to say that Katana can get 240 DPS.

The build I used would probably get killed by the pylon since it has no heal. It's also pre-inherent fitness, so Aid Self could probably be added. In practice, I'd add Rebirth instead of Aid Self. Either would take away from DPS a bit, but by the time we're talking Rebirth, we're also talking Musculature and somewhat higher DPS instead of lower.
Hey thanks for showing up to the party...was getting tired of trying to explain stuff I didn't uderstand myself. I just know you and Arcana, and a few other math guru's (Serrate) are usually pretty right, if y'all aren't y'all have that build in math code to correct the others' mistakes, and purely academically not personally. So, thanks to all here, keeping it non flame, and making this purely an excercise in finding the truth for DPS as it were.

    Some quick questions:
Is it better to have the build up proc in Blinding Fient or something like Tactics/Focused Acc?
Is it better to have same as above in a BU power like Focused Chi or Tact/FA?
With the introduction of Incarnate Trials, does extra defense pass the 45 threshold give you any value? If I'm using manuevers I have 47-Melee, 48-Ranged, and 47-AOE.

What can I do to impove these builds for AV soloing? I plan on taking AGELESS to shore up my +Recharge and End issues.

The enemy groups with to-hit buffs have fairly large bonuses. They are so severe that invention sets can't cover the ~50% extra defense required to make any noticeable impact on their hit rate. If you were thinking bosses and +1 to +4 enemies would hit you less, that is wrong. They get accuracy bonuses which are calculated after defense.

With 90% defense debuff resistance, the average 7.5% debuff will only debuff you for .75%. A defense buffer of 2% is more than enough to prevent cascading defense failure with high DDR because you will only ever have 17 enemies attacking you at once. The odds of ten of them all landing attacks at the same time to debuff you for 7.5% total are less than one in ten trillion.
Well where can I improve on my builds? Assualt adds nothing, and I can't see where else to improve? Also, what about when I'm soloing AV's, if they hit me for -Def...or my AAO fodder sourrunding me, if they have -to Def?

As far as the builds go, the resistance difference is insignificant. So is the HP difference. Scrappers are all about offense, and as long as you're soft-capped in both builds, your offense will be the determining factor.
Yeah I reworked my build slightly taking out the Assualt as it's not needed with Muscluature, and threw in Manuvers, moved the LOTG +recharge to Manuvers and put a Kismet into Phalanx fighting. After I get Ageless I'll be able to run Manuvers for somewhere around 48 Melee, 50 Range, and 47 AOE.

What are you looking to get out of your post? You didn't specify anything in your post. Did you just want the people here to give your build the once over and say it's good or not?

Two Big Suggestions that help us:
Post what you'll be using your build for (i.e. PvP, PvE, Farming, casual play).
And how expensive of a build (expensive, non-expensive, medium expense build.)

Also, what you want to build for DMG, Recharge, HP, things like that. After we know these things we can comment on your build and what you might need or what direction to go is best. *Cheers*

  20. Having trouble decideing between the two. The one thing they both have in common is that I'd have to forgo running a lot of toggles until I get Ageless for the +end, recharge, recovery. With that being said the +recharge is what I'm relying on to keep me at the recharge need to do the optimal DPS chains available for MA.

Also, noticed that Musculature, is not giving a dmg buff to all my Attacks, am I at Dmg CAP, for those powers. I know if I take off the +BU proc in Focus Chi, it helps, but for those times the BU proc fires, will I just be losing out on DMG? Should I go for Spiritual or Cardiac in that case?

Incarnates are driving me insane with Builds...grrrrrr!

Forgot to turn Incarnate off on the first one, major diffence is I get more life, and am HP capped with OWS up.

  21. Which is the best Reactive? I've seen many places saying they took the Reactive that does 75%dmg or the 75% -Resist, but even still which out of those is better? The text says does 75% dot Fire. Does that mean I have to have a DOT attack to get the benifit? How much -resist actually is achievable?

That's 4 questions, apologies for so many, just want full clarification on this before I go wasting threads, Merits, and drop/picks on the wrong Reactive power.

Thanks, was leaning heavily to the 45% anyways, so that is just extra confirmation.

(Personally I don't use Eagle's Claw on my main MA/SR, but I do on my other MA/WP character. Both are 50 and have a good amount of IO slotting.)
Why use Dragon's Tail, just for the -Resist Proc?

Also, has the Reactive power decision between 75%dmg to 25% -resist been solved? Which is better the 75% dmg or the 75% -resist?
  24. Been reading through the Rikti Pylon Thread, and see mostly MA/SR's doing the higher DPS. Everything near the top is with /SD. So how come MA/SD was really low compareatively to MA/SR? Was the one person using the MA/SD just not good/optimally built? I would think the DPS from the MA/SD would be pretty high with AAO fully saturated.
  25. On the topic but off target a bit, I would like to say:
    1. To obtain DPS you have to survive (So all DPS is therotically built with you surviving said fight.)
    2. Alot goes into survival; clicking heals, clicking Tier 9's, clicking inspirations, clicking anything other than DPS chain lowers DPS chain. (I know, thanks Cpt. Obvious)
    3. Listing DPS numbers in theory and testing them are diffrent animals, see reason 1 &2. So, I think the Rikti Pylon thread was created to get Real Numbers for similar situations, as in Soloing an AV, which is mainly what you are wanting DPS for anyhow. And basic chain of attacks is going to take out a Boss, even Boss +4 pretty quickly. So we are looking at Upper tier Mobs, the EB's and AV's and for some GM's. (GM's as far as I know can only be Solo'd by Controllers, Defenders, and Corrupters, which I can confirm. Dom's I do not know about.)
