Because it is digital only, there is a good chance that NCSoft makes more from the digital "basic" upgrade than the retail Complete Collection. Therefore, it is in their best interests for you to prepurchse it via them, nothing to manufacture, nothign to ship, no free month the $30 goes in their pockets nearly in its entinrty (credit charges and such notwithstanding). Buying the CC edition in a retail outlet is "really" only a gain of $25 since they "lose" a month of sub time from you, then you have to consider what the wholesale price was the retailer purchased it for plus what NC had to pay to manufacture and distribute, so the final net profit is far lower. If we digitally order the CC it still nets less than just the basic edition since they still "lose" the month of sub time ($25 take for the CC vs a $30 take for Basic).

And all that is before factoring in the price of the CC Upgrade pack which is more direct profit.

Yeah, what they're doing makes sound sense on the seller side, if not on the consumer side.

I'll get the complete package myself. $10 more, but I get a month of playtime (saving $5) and the bonus pack goodies (saving, maybe, $10 if pricing stays the same). That works for me. Paying less for the expansion only has some appeal, but honestly I don't care about getting the powersets early.

I would like to go out and repeat what's on my signature: I would really like to be able to buy this on Stardock's Impulse digital distribution system. I've been using them since they started and have been pretty darn happy with them. The more selection, the better, methinks

Oh, and I'm fine with no extra physical goodies. I've been cleaning house and a lot of the "oh cool!" CE stuff I've collected over the years went bye-bye. I'm trying to keep my life a lot less cluttered. In-game goodies (where I'll enjoy stuff and not have to dust them) are fine by me.

This does sound needlessly confusing, to be honest. Why can't we just pre-order the complete collection? The 'upgrading' thing seems kind of pointless, especially since people won't be getting the months time with it, essentially making it cost more if you want to both pre-order and also want the complete collection.

Always remember, we were Heroes.

Wait...so let me get this straight....There is no cake available with either order, nor the related power "eat it too"?

Because perhaps those goodies (costumes etc) are connected to GR and they don't want to release those extra powers until GR is released as a finished product, after it goes through beta testing.

Gah, no retail in Europe - I'm not happy. I hope this changes.

Personally I'll be going with the Prepurchase, mainly because I'd rather not wait another 4 or 5 months to roll my Dual Pistols characters on the live servers (I've been sitting on some of those names since last May...)

The complete edition will go on my secondary account at a later date, probably.

So I can pay $30, NOT get the item pack and get dual pistols and demon summoning early. If I want the item pack in July, we're be expected the normal 5-10 bucks.

Or I can pay $25($40-15 for the month of time I won't be paying,) get an updated dvd for future reloads AND get the item pack, but have to wait several months before playing DP and DS on live.

Oooook.

Be well, people of CoH.

If it helps, think of it this way.

This is really not that much different from a "booster pack" that costs around $15 and only gives early access to the two powersets.

They are basically saying "okay, you want to play the powersets early? Fine, that will cost you 15 bucks (maybe a little more) and there's this really convoluted way you have to buy the 'Early Powerset Booster pack'."

Assuming that the Complete Collection Pack is going to be $10 (could be wrong on that), you're paying $40 either way, but you have to choose between being able to play Pistols and Demons early or the free month. Brilliant.

If somebody you're arguing with goes off the deep end, don't follow.

Well, if you pre-order from retail, get the code from the store, you can also just cancel it when its time to buy and get your pre-order money back. So they just gave you something for nothing. I've pre-ordered and canceled before myself, and did that with a game for a marketing-beta (ie, that "preorder now and get into beta!" beta). I know I'm not alone in that. I'm sure it ticks of retailers, too.

If you pre-buy the expansion from NCSoft or whoever their partners are, they've got your money. You don't get the other goodies, but you get two major perks way ahead of everyone else. Some folks might well pay just for that.

What is the Item Pack? Im sure I'll end up preordering and then upgrading but some details about the IP would be cool and I'm sure would sway some people's decision

Complete Edition - $40; no prepurchase but all the digital goodies, plus a free month (and possibly an updated disk), online or physical purchase

Total: $40 then "minus" the $15 monthly fee = $25 value
This is not quite right.

should be

Total $40 plus a free month ($15)= $55 value for just $40

This.

Anyway... my reading comprehension is failing today, but if I end up buying both versions and apply codes as necessary, will they 'stack' as the norm? I'm just concerned that one code does not cost me some benefit of another code.

$40 minus $15 for the included month brings effective cost down to $25 since you won't have to pay for a month.

The option for me seems like the GR Expansion downloaded digitally from NCSoft for $29.99 USD. I was considering getting the retail version of the Complete Collection so I would have discs, manuals, whatever else is in the box. Purchasing online from a third-party and having it shipped internationally is the only way to achieve this from what I've read. It's a shame retail is limited to the US.

It's good to see that now we're getting down to brass tacks people are appraising their purchases carefully.

You are correct. I was thinking seller side, not consumer side with my figures.

Let's see

Pre-order $30
plus the box in July. $40

total $70 plus a free month actual cost= $55

for me this is the toughie.
