Discussion: Two Ways to Get Going Rogue
Thinking about it, I'm not so mad about it. Angry wise, that is. Hell's, I'm still buying early and getting DP and DS unlocked
It just kind of stinks that the box wont be in the UK/EU at all. I'm tired of never seeing CityOf on the shelves. I know they say marketting does do stuff, but I've never seen it. Nothing advertises a game better than having it sat on the shelf saying '6+ years and still kicking a$$ and taking names. And we STILL have bubblegum left.'
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I dunno.
Keep in mind it contains CoH + CoV, too, the complete collection. So that's a value of $20 right there, anyway, that they're just throwing into the otherwise $30 expansion. That only benefits NEW players, sure, but it could be a LOT worse... But that just brings me to... Like I said above, new subscribers get a free month anyway, right? That's really all this is, it's just that older players seem to have an opt in to get it for the time of this particular expansion's release. Which is kind of generous by some MMO standards. And really, all this is better than some other games expansions. (Though not the territory you mention they're still aways away from. ) A certain OTHER MMO I tried to get into once I had to buy the $20 main game, $20 expansion, and $40 OTHER expansion. PLUS $15 a month fee. All things told, this looks a lot better than all that. |
I know that I am going to be buying one Complete Collection just so I can get the most recent physical media. I like to have disks on hand in case I have to reload a system, I can load and do small patches instead of having to patch 3 - 4 years. I guess in this case, the best option is to preorder on one account (and just pre play the new sets on that account) and then get the box set when it comes out for the other account.
I guess it just seems there is no reason NOT to presell the Complete Collection except to induce people to buy both.
My first 50 of each AT on Triumph:
Tempest Master: Defender; Puppy: Master Mind; Dr Hypochondria: Controller; RubberCop: Tanker; Gleipnir: Scrapper; Viridian Widow: Widow; Mr Atlantis: Blaster; Storm Lord: Dominator; Quetzacouatl: - Peacebringer; DogStar: Corruptor; Lightning Strikes: Stalker; Lord of Brass: Brute; Mr. Cygnus X-1: Warshade
Since I have the game presently, I will pre-order "digitally" The GR separate expansion. Enter the code (like for any booster packs), and will be able to make Dual Pistols in March, and Demon Summoning in April.
Come July, I will "upgrade" to Complete Collection to have the emotes, costumes, etc. I would guess upgrading the Separate Expansion to Complete Collection will be around the booster pack prices (around 10 bucks). Again, this will be done digitally. No box, no nothing, simply enter the code. |
This answered it for me. I will buy the pre-order, then upgrade when it is offered. I am not concerned at all about the game time.

I'm a bit confused still so GR when it's finally done is just use purchasing new content, not new powers, since we can get those with pre order, and not the ability to port bad to good and good to bad, or get ultra mode? <scratches head> I are confuzed. o.@

Also am I reading this right or is it the Nyquil...
In order to get Pistols first you pay a set price, then if you want the items exclusive to the expansion you must pay a higher set price in addtion to the first price? Or am I reading that wrong?
Look, I am sorry and mean no DISRESPECT, but this is just Stupid.
This is how it should be.
Pre-Order Complete Collection 39.99$
Get Power Sets early (When pre order code is applied)
Get Goodies (when retail code is applied)
Get 1 Month Free (when retail code is applied)
Pre-Order GR Expansion 29.99$
Get Power Sets early (When Pre Order Code is applied)
Why does it need to be more complicated than that? Seriously WHY?
:edit:
Make it known now that you won't get the goodie pack until like 6 months after GR goes live. That would be incentive to have people just get the complete collectors edition...
Whta about those of us that want the pre-order early stuff AND the item pack? THis is unfair to us!
To be honest, I am not seeing any true incentive to prepurchasing... early access to the two new power sets is not really an incentive and seems more like a beta test of the two sets on the live servers so all the kinks will be worked out in terms of balance and playability before GR CC discs go gold.
Now, if they had offered the Complete Collection as a prepurchase online with the caveat that the free month would not be credited to the account until it released in retail stores in July, I would be more inclined to prepurchase.
If the base expansion prepurchase also came with the costumes/emotes/special power pack as well as the early access to the two power sets, then I would be more inclined to prepurchase.
As it stands now with what has been presented, I can wait until July... and I have a feeling many others will also.

Well, if the item pack is $10 like the Mac pack, GVE pack, etc., then you can buy it separately. You are paying $10 less than the retail, after all, and will get to enjoy two major features from Going Rogue before anyone else.
Bah, I would've gotten the preorder AND the boxed edition. But since there apparently is no boxed edition for the poor red-headed stepchildren, I haven't decided on what I'm going to get yet, but it'll only be one of them.

Because if all I want is the powersets early, I can do a pre-order, get the code, redeem the code, then cancel the pre-order getting my money back. I know a fair number of people who've done this for betas for Star Trek Online, Aion, etc. I'm reasonably sure retailers are getting tired of this, and NCSoft does need to work with their retailer partners, like it or not.

early access to new powersets

$15 month of gameplay

$40 Complete Edition (not pre-purchasable)
no early powerset access
free item pack
free month
= $40
They're looking to seriously cash in on the pre-purchasable perk of early powerset access. It's kinda disgusting.

This all seems very convoluted for what should be a very simple transaction, why is that?

I would point out, though, that not everyone will want the item pack. Not that it changes things much overall ($45 for some, $55 for others). And the Complete Edition will come with COH/COV which is of little use to someone who already has it, but is likely why it comes with the free month.

Thanks for clearing that up, looks like I'm waiting until July.

I'm going to try and deconstruct your NyQuil-driven post here...
1) You pay $30 directly to NCSoft as the pre-purchase amount. This entitles you to the Going Rogue expansion when it is released. You do not have to pay anything else.
2) You get Dual Pistols as early as March, and Demon Summoning as early as April (depending on when you do your pre-purchase transaction).
.....a) Ultra Mode is now coming for free with Issue 17.
3) When Going Rogue is released in July, then you get the new Praetorian zones, the ability to switch sides with your characters, and presumably the new end-game content.
If you do NOT pre-purchase, you do not get Dual Pistols or Demon Summoning early. They are only for people who purchase the Going Rogue expansion. (If you buy the expansion after it is released, you get access to the powersets then.)
Did that hopefully clear it up a bit for you?
Also am I reading this right or is it the Nyquil...

*Assuming you preorder when the option is first made available.
If you want the special bonus costumes, stance emotes, stealth power and whatever other goodies are in the "Complete Collection," then yes, you'll have to pay an additional fee once the expansion is actually released.

At any rate, I'm betting that the item pack is either $9.99 or $4.99. $9.99 seems like a good number, because that's the difference between just plain Going Rogue and the Complete Collection. (Okay, it's a penny off, sue me.) $4.99 seems like a good number, because it acknowledges that those who just wait and buy the Complete Collection are getting a free month (~$15) of play.
So if the upgrade pack is $9.99, you're basically paying $15 to get early access to Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning. If the upgrade pack ends up being $4.99, you're paying $10 to get early access to the additional powersets.
I know, some folks don't like the idea that it will cost extra to get early access to these things. If you're one of those folks, there is always the cheapest option: Wait until July, pay $40, and get ~$15's worth of play time with your purchase. You'll get everything for a discount net price of around $25. If it makes you feel better, I guarantee that your dual pistol or demon summoning whatever would have been thought of as just another flavor-of-the-month character. Of course, there's also the downside that your dual pistol or demon summoning whatever will be (presumably) forever barred from earning the 6th anniversary badge.
But the point is, what's more important to you? $10-$15, or having three to four months of extra play time with your dual pistols/demon summoning character? I'm not suggesting one way or another is better, it's just your personal preference.
We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
