Discussion: Two Ways to Get Going Rogue
Because if all I want is the powersets early, I can do a pre-order, get the code, redeem the code, then cancel the pre-order getting my money back. I know a fair number of people who've done this for betas for Star Trek Online, Aion, etc. I'm reasonably sure retailers are getting tired of this, and NCSoft does need to work with their retailer partners, like it or not.

My major problem with it is that they should just be clearer about it. If they are going to call it the complete collection, then I think it should contain everything on offer.
Why could they not just post the price they want people to pay if they want everything? |
But if you're thinking it'll include the previous microtransaction packs (Good vs. Evil, Mac, Wedding, Cyborg, Magic, Super Science and Martial Arts), absolutely not. Nor should it for that low a price.

$40 (US) at the store in July gets you City of Heroes/Villains, the Going Rogue expansion and all the bonuses (costumes, stance emotes, inherent stealth power, etc.) that are being released at the time of the expansion. They gave that price.

So how much is it if you want that, plus everything included in the 'Complete' collection (including the months gametime)?

$30 Expansion (pre-purchasable)
early access to new powersets $10 Item Pack (basing price on previous item pack costs, subject to change) $15 month of gameplay = $55 $40 Complete Edition (not pre-purchasable) no early powerset access free item pack free month = $40 |

Pretty much what Agg said above, with extra emphasis on the bit about the item pack pricing being assumed and subject to change. Seems like it'll be $55 until they officially tell us how much that item pack will cost.

1. Av, thanks for the post laying things out.
2. You realize that a portion of the community are just going to wait for the best deal and only buy CE at a later date, right?
3. Re: the other posts... Some of you people give me a headache. Obviously reading and math aren't your strong points.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Right, so why not just say
Basic edition (pre-orderable): No pack, early access to powers. $29.99
Collectors edition: No-pre purchase, Pack, 1 months gametime. $39.99
Complete Collection: Pre-purchase, Pack, 1 months gametime. $whatever they want people to pay.
Would be much simpler, everyone could see and compare costs and pick what was right for them.
Mainly a pet peeve of mine, I prefer businesses to tell me the actual prices of things, rather than giving me some of the info and making me work it out for myself (see: restaurants that don't include service charge, and airlines that don't include airport charges in their quoted prices)

Is a several month head start with two new Powersets worth $15 (or maybe just $10) bucks to you?
That is the only thing you need to ask yourself.
If yes, go with the pre-purchase.
If no, wait and buy the Full Package and save $15.
One thing to consider: If you expect to be in an early wave of GR Closed Beta, and will be spending a large amount of your CoH time there -- where you'll have access to the new power sets -- then do you really need to buy into the the head start on Live for those Powersets? Probably not. Just something to think about.
But if you want your pew pew for 2xXP, pony up the bucks NAO.

Easy decision for me. I'm perfectly happy waiting a little while for the new powersets, and I'd rather have the month and the stuff for $10 more. Heck, I probably wouldn't roll up a new character until later anyway, so waiting's not a problem for me. Also gives me a few extra months to save up for the new comp for Ultra Mode.
(Yes, I know that it's been announced that Ultra will be coming before GR, but I'm not upgrading until at least GR anyway.)

Well, I gues I will be preordering. Just because I am an impatient gamer, hmmm. LOLROFLMAO ;P
" I don't let me kids play on the Freedom Server" -Oya
I'll be pre-ordering and then buying the upgrade to CE. I don't care about losing the month's game time and I really want a new MM to run to 50.
Still, I'm not happy about the way this has been implemented and think it's confusing at first glance. Whilst I got it after re-reading it (that'll teach me for reading it quickly), I can see how some people were a little muddled over the content of the OP.
Even though I'm not happy about the process chosen, I thank Av and the NCsoft team for keeping the information flowing.
On a more serious note, for those griping about no pre-order for the complete collection, consider this paradox in advertising:
If you pre-order the GR complete collection and you can start playing DP and DS heroes now.....how are brand new players supposed to take advantage of this offer when they can't create an account because the key isn't available until they pick up the box in July....So, the early access can only be for the expansion...unless something unique and cool is offered for people who pre-purchase the complete expansion.....
@Texarkana
@Thexder
Hm... well, since I already prepaid at ~$10/month and have game time until... November, I think... yeah, I'm not too worried about the game time. I may or may not care about the costume bits and emotes, and doubt I'll ever use the perma-temp power given the description of it in game.
So, looks like little to no downside for my preordering... er, prepurchase, but I will say that I'm frivolous enough that if the Complete Collection was available for prepurchase I would've gone ahead and spent the extra right away rather than wait.
In any case, it's all marketing's fault anyway.
it has gone from unconscionable to downright appalling that we have no way of measuring our characters' wetness.

Will this be available for pre-purchase through Steam? Makes it a billion times easier to gift it to people.
Interesting.
I got a $25 Best Buy gift card for Christmas that I've been holding on to until I learned how they were going to sell Going Rogue. The regular expansion being digital-only threw a monkey wrench in my plans.
Hmm... maybe I'll prepurchase the seperate expansion and then use my gift card for the complete collection which, with the free month, means it wouldn't cost me anything.
I'll have to think about it some more.
The upgrade will include the Complete Collection Item Pack but will not include any game time. The pricing for the upgrade hasn’t been set yet. |

I will be going with the separate expansion prepurchase and then upgrading it with the complete collection item pack on launch day.
New powersets to play with is new content for me. The choice is clear for me. I will pay for more and have sooner, rather than later.

Samuel_Tow: Your avatar is... I think I like it
Not impressed.
Like most here, I'm running more than one account. Like many, I'm into costume parts. Like a lot, cost is a factor in these economic times.
I have zero interest in retail boxes (I only download anyway); I don't care about getting the powers a little early (I'm sure there'll be enough DP and demons knocking around without me having any).
To me not being able to pre-order the Complete Collection is just odd. I either have the NC store "will it go through" frenzy when GR is released or I buy half a job now and then half a job later which; will almost certainly cost me more (even if the costume pack is the same as previous boosters, I'm losing out 30 days). All on two accounts.
I wonder if there'll be other deals for buying the expansion (which may include costume parts) nearer GR release date and which will work out cheaper?
That'll be the route I'll take. Wait and see.
I don't understand the rationale really. Sure it looks like a way to get people to buy twice but I can't be the only one with a re-subscription due between now and GR. What better way to ensure those subs are done than get the Complete Collection pre-ordered at the NC Store?
Or is the "two extra months free" deal from last year set to tie in with GR proper? That'd be REALLY nice.*

My only question with this comes from prior experience....thus far, every boxed product that's been available for this game has shown up in Australia, and that includes the Collector's Edition of CoV and the AE version as well. I was surprised to see the latter on shelves out here, but there they were.
So obviously the question is whether the same will be happening again, as I would like the physical product, but I will happily buy the digital product if not.

Eh! I'll just wait for the retail version. Figure by then the 1 or 10 nerfs to the 2 new power sets will be done and the doomsayers will be crying less. After all AE is nothing like it was when it rolled out, no reason to think DP or Demon sumoning won't be nerfed in that 4-5 months.
My wife *Must Have* the boxed Collectors Edition. We have every boxed edition from this game. She also *Must Have* the Pre order...
Why is it, she is going to end up paying 90 bucks for 1 games expansion?
and that is TIMES 2 because I play as well.
Who thought this plan out?
I am not sure how it is bad to attempt to make money while running a for-profit business.
Why could they not just post the price they want people to pay if they want everything?
