  1. TJ, you sir are fantastic. I turned that off, and the framerate jumped right up to about 30. I was able to tweak it to get some occlusion settings without any drop off, but the change in that one took away the choppiness. If it stays like it is now, I'll be more than happy, but I'd still like to boost the framerate some more. 30 still seems low for this computer, even in Grandville. But it's more of a hobby to get it up now, rather than a necessity.

That's why I picked there. I figure I should go with the worst case scenario. But even in Gville, it shouldn't be that bad.

I figured the same thing about my comp. Framerate is the same pretty much everywhere, that's what also lead me to think it was something besides the setup. Even in the character selection screen, it's choppy.

Thanks for the tip. I'll find those drivers and try them out.

I appreciate all the help, everyone. This is why we have the best MMO community.
  3. With the settings posted above, /showfps was generally between 7.5 and 8. I turned those two items all the way off, and only got to between 9.5 and 10. I played around with the settings, and I got the same values at FSAA at 8x and AF at 4x, so that's what I set them to. But it still isn't as smooth as I'd expect it to be.

I double checked and added extra exclusions for CoH in Symantic, which I use for security, but that didn't change anything.

(Note that testing is done while superjumping through Grandville.)
  4. Hey, gurus. I've tried a few things, but I'm not sure what the issue is. I built myself a new system a few months ago and built it so that I could run CoH with the new graphics upgrade in Ultra Mode. Given the specs, I figured that I'd be able to run it at least near the high end. But when I try to play, I get really low frame rates, and it doesn't seem to improve when I lower the settings, either. I'm wondering if there's something more fundamentally wrong that I'm just missing. For what it's worth, I can run Star Trek Online at it's highest settings without any trouble at all, so that also makes me think there's something more basic that I'm missing. I did check on the video driver to be sure, and I think that's the latest driver version.

EDIT: Oh, and happy holidays, everyone.

  5. Wish we could have gotten a little more notice on this. I'll have to crunch some numbers, but I'm not sure it's worth it to fly out just for a M&G. The first M&G was awesome because there was a fabulous bit afterward where we could just chat with the devs, but I'd wager something that informal would be shut down now. Not sure it's worth the expense to fly out from here in beautiful Austin, Texas.

Of course, I also wish we could have gotten a Hero Con, but that's a dead horse.

I'd go further and put a moratorium on the whole phrase "slap in the face." It's grown into a meaningless cliche that's tossed around without any thought whatsoever.

There are a lot of similar bromides, but that one in particular is always brandished once or twice on any forum discussion where someone doesn't like what the company does.
  7. I decided to wait and get the box at retail for the complete collection. I didn't need access to the sets early, and it worked out to be a better deal to do that than get the item pack as a separate purchase. So I'm a beneficiary of this preorder benefit.

Having said that, I wholly agree with Marcian's point on this. But before continuing, I'll note that Landro made one of my points: Prepurchasing got those folks the new power sets way early. Because I'm waiting for the retail box, I can't use the new sets yet, so that's a benefit that you're getting now that I won't be able to get.

Though that's a decision that should have been available to folks beforehand. In a way, this punishes folks that decided to prepurchase because they didn't have all the information to make the choice. Most of them probably would have still chosen to prepurchase to get the powersets early, but those that wouldn't have are fully justified in being a little chafed over this.

Now, it's entirely possible that this was a deal that developed recently, making it impossible for this to have been announced earlier. If so, then I wouldn't know how to rectify this without negating the exclusivity of the promotion (by including them in the item pack or as their own microtransaction, for example)

I'll also say that this preorder bonus isn't really all that great, so it's not something that anyone should get too riled up about. It'll be a nice thing to have for a few levels, but then ditched.
  8. Just saw this over on Razor's Facebook feed. Is this going to be the only retail promotion? If so, I'll preorder it today. I was going to do Complete Collection at retail anyway.
  9. My guess is that they're considering the Wizard World Texas event here in Austin this November. It's central (compared to the other four), an existing event, and NCsoft has an office here already to help staff the event. Of course, that works for me, being in Austin.

Personally, I made a point to get out to HeroCon each year, and went to the pre-HeroCon M&G way back when. I'll consider the NorCal event, but that was a pretty expensive trip for just a couple days of stuff (and only one official evening of stuff). I have friends that I only see at HeroCon, so this kind of bums me out. I liked how the con was growing and improving each year.

Catwhoorg gets the prize, at least for naming the first one.
I had thought that the Cyberjocks event was before the D&B event here in Austin, but it can't have been.

The event at Cyberjocks was more about promoting Auto Assault, which was about to launch. They had a little room with a few systems running it. I won an Auto Assault hat there.

The D&B event in Austin was more CoH, but there was a good bit of Tabula Rasa stuff thrown in. Garriott attended in a uniform he had made. For me, this was where I met my live-event friends from Justice.

A bit later was the first specifically CoH event at the D&B in Milpitas. Then a year after that was the first Hero-Con, then, of course, the second in October.

Good times. If not for that D&B event in Austin, I probably wouldn't have ended up going to the Milpitas event nor to Hero-Con. Now, it's something I look forward to each year.
  11. Easy decision for me. I'm perfectly happy waiting a little while for the new powersets, and I'd rather have the month and the stuff for $10 more. Heck, I probably wouldn't roll up a new character until later anyway, so waiting's not a problem for me. Also gives me a few extra months to save up for the new comp for Ultra Mode.

(Yes, I know that it's been announced that Ultra will be coming before GR, but I'm not upgrading until at least GR anyway.)

  15. Well, since I can't sleep, I decided to do something for Team Snark. Nothing major, so don't get too excited, but I've got a little something packed away for us.
  16. Yeah, definitely planning on doing registration and Wentworth's on Friday before Justice dinner.

Good to know Holder's can hold a table for us at 8:00. That gives us 2 hours to eat and get back before the opening session. Sweet.

As for me, I'm going to go print out the schedule and pack and then nervously bounce in a chair until 5 AM, when I leave for the airport.
  17. Hey, dude! Glad to hear you're going to be there, and even more glad that you got to finish up your degree. I remember talking with you last year and you saying how tough it was, and that it was getting tougher. Glad you made it through! I'm looking forward to hearing your plans now that you're out.

I'll be seeing you tomorrow. Feel free to join us for the Star Trek trip tomorrow afternoon.
  18. Austinites represent! Madam, if I could join your team as well, I would appreciate it.

I have every intention to bring the ownage.
  19. Dude, that's pretty awful. Glad that you're still planning on going. I understand the big desire to go; HeroCon is my big thing each year, too.

If, somehow, you're unable to make it, I can pick up your bag, whatever you would have gotten at Wentworth's, put a bunch of pictures and videos on a USB, and drive it over to you from here in Austin as a HeroCon care package.

But that's a desperate last resort. We want you at HeroCon!
  20. I don't know how blasphemous this is, but would a lunch trip be a better idea? They probably wouldn't be as busy then, and we'd know the con schedule at that point. If we end up dropping 20 people on them at once, even if we were seated right away, I'd expect it to take a while just to cook everything. I'm perfectly fine with early mornings, but if the goal time to be back at the hotel is 9 AM, then I don't see being seated at 8 as being enough time. (Even if we were able to be seated then.)

Well, if it works like my weekly game night here (and it sounds like it will, since similar games will be played) then I think there will be plenty of interaction, and the games are short enough that you'll be able to move to a new one with new people.

I'm absolutely doing the mission, though. It was fun last year, and I liked running around. I think this year will be more organized, since they know what to expect.
  22. I won't be getting any bacon waffles, but I do want to go with you guys. I do recall some good regular waffles out there... Sign me up!

Also, I've asked if the meatballs could be served on the side to accomodate anyone with vegetarian sensibilites. The up-side to this is you won't have to try to carve up the ginormous mega-meatballs on the spaghetti & risk spaghetti sploosh! You might just get sauce sploosh if the meatballs are served in/covered with sauce.
Awesome, Red! Truly, sir, you are a king among men. :-)

My excitement for Hero Con continues to build.
  24. Well, early registration starts at 4:00, so I think that gives us enough time to pick up badges and still have a leisurely dinner. (Meet in the lobby at, say, 5:00 to be at Buca by 5:30. That gives us 2 hours to eat and get back for games.)

The Trek exhibit is open all day, though I was planning on getting back from it by 4:00. But if that makes it too tight, it can be pushed back, or just go on Sunday.

Last year, we met up in the lobby of the hotel to arrange for carpooling. I assume that the same will happen this year.
