My thoughts?

All "Win" EXCEPT I have serious misgivings about the in-game email 'attachments' ability.

The RMT'ers are going to have a FIELD DAY with this.

So... I would implement a few things:

1) a significant delay in delivery cross-accounts (stuff sent to other people)

2) LOTS of datamining, for accounts that seem to be either A) receiving a lot of stuff from others or B) are constantly sending stuff to others, without much in the way of "equal trade value" coming the other direction (banker characters and grind mules, both used by RMT'ers).

3) An addendum to the AUP/TOC that says "if we determine that you're running an RMT service via the in-game email, you will be banned, publicly and without mercy, by means of a Dev using a Kronos Titan to stomp you flat as your global account is blacklisted off of ALL NCSoft games and services."

(go ahead and use that verbiage, I'm sure the lawyers will love it.)

"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."

I only have one question. has anyone seen the exact specs for the new graphics mode? I'm wondering because I bought my new system with sweet specs as it is only 6 weeks ago. I'd like to see just how sweet it still is, if it is.

Thanks Melanie!
And yes.. it's my opinion too!
I just thought I'd give 'some' kind of protest about that particular change because I just don't like it. And not protesting would mean that I'm okay with it.. but I'm not!.. Again.. my opinion.

Also, I would like to point out that I really don't mind the effort I put in to unlock the Epic Archtypes. I am proud of it!

It's just that the new players won't have to do much to get the unlockables. Will it really keep them interested? (yes I know there's more good stuff that should keep them happy, but when stuff gets "easy to get" ...it will bore.)

I do wonder if they can be unlocked in Trial accounts too (Goodness I hope not!)?

What ever happend to "work for your rewards" ?

And also to not give you the idea I only moan about stuff ...

I'm hoping for a furry wolf tail and extension cord with pug.

I think you might need a few more costume pieces before you can do that robot dog - would be nice though - both the idea of a extension cord and for animal body types.

Fantastic news!

I have a request, if I may, for i18:_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

  • Off-line Super Group invites. No longer does the customer base have to rely on an outsider to get their alts into their SG

rant over.

They should include this in the QoL for i17

Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"

*Arc #177826-Lights, Camera, Scream! - 3 step arc, camp horror; try out in 1st person POV - 35 Ratings/4 Stars

I'm not horribly up on all the red-name statements on various things, but something in I17 seems to go together with something I've heard over the years.

It's been said that some red-names indicated that they would never make another EAT require a lvl 50 to unlock, right?

It's been said by at least some players (myself for one) that it would be unfair or at least silly to have some EATs unlock at 50 while others unlock at lower levels.

Now in I17 they're lowering the unlock level of the current EATs to 20.

Does it seem to anyone else like that's a prelude to additional EATs being made? Maybe my 1 + 1 = 2 isn't solid math. Anyone else have thoughts?

Also, allowing us to invite our own characters to a super group. Of course allowing offline invites should make this possible without having to do anything. I don't think there is anything limiting it other than the fact that you cannot have more than 1 character online at a time.

Yes, it has been said by the devs in the past that they regretted making EATs unlockable at 50 and would never do it again. They only made the VEATs unlock at 50 for consistency, but I think you could be on to something.

Email says:

A superior graphic rendering process, dubbed "Ultra Mode," will provide City of Heroes a heightened level of detail in lighting, reflections, shadows, and water effects

Basicly i read just using the new features of the recent graphic instructions? No revamp on the fugly cars, the so squared buildings, high-reso tilesets, aka a graphic overhaul on the current content?

Although, in a certain other game, they have sortlike features wich makes the game looks quite more 'realistic', i do believe it will be some nice eyecandy.

Actually at the time they stated that any future EATs would not be unlocked by getting a character to 50.

Somewhat pedantically, that could either be read as 'you will not need to have a charcter at 50 to unlock them' or as 'you will need to have a character at 50 plus other requirements as well'.

It seems fairly apparent that the former interpretation was the one intended - but the ambiguity in the statements made does remain.

i.e. if ever the devs introduced an EAT that required a 50 plus some other requirement then they would not have gone against previous statements, just against what appears to be the majority's interpretation of those statements.

Less pedantically:
One of the downsides to EAT development was always that the requirement for a 50 meant that comparatively few players had them - so any further development on them could be seen as wasted (benefitting maybe only 10-15% of the playerbase when other development may be of benefit to much higher numbers).

Lowering the entry requirement for EATs should mean that they are accessible to many more people, and so it becomes easier to argue for spending development time on both new EATs and possibly on new content specific to the existing EATs... (Heck - is that storm still coming? How're the Khelds feeling about that?)

The Coming Storm has been downgraded to a Slowly Approaching Squall and may have decided to spin off into the Atlantic instead.

I think you're onto something here. I reckon they looked at the play numbers for their EATs and said "Hey, after all our work making VEATs and boosting HEATs no-one is still playing them really". Plus with Posi working on an endgame of some sort they might have figured it'd make sense to encourage people to keep playing that 50 in the new endgame rather than running off to make an alt.

The Endgame was given as Posi's main reason from stepping back from overall lead (a slightly political line methinks), but have we had word if it's also part of GR yet?

If only Michael Fish had said that I'd be expecting an imminent invasion of unprecedented violence...

Michael who? ah - outside the UK? Google him and 1987...

IIRC Early talk about GR mentioned it bringing in post-50 advancement. I can't remember offhand if the long-discussed idea of universal slots was mentioned by name.

Whilst maybe not giving any idea what sort of missions/raids/funky-features will provide the gameplay for post-50 progression I'd say it's reasonable to assume that there will be some form of improved endgame brought in alongside post-50 character improvement.

Wait ... a tail that's an extension cord with a plug on the end? I hadn't thought of it before now but that right there would be a blast.

"Universal slots" was a part of that customer survey that made the rounds a couple years back, which was assessing levels of player interest in things like side-switching (the "going Rogue system" was used by name), power customization, and the Architect, long before they were ever announced.

I operate on the assumption that we're likely to see most, if not everything on that list, and the survey was more a matter of prioritization.

As far as I know, the results were never published. Part of the survey from when it first came out is here at massively.com:

I don't know if the whole thing appeared later.
