Is CoH gonna be okay?

I don't personally care how many posts you have. You came here wondering if CoH is gonna be okay, and I wanted to let you know that yes, it will be okay.

It's all good. You're still cool in my book. As cool as any random internet stranger in my book can be, anyway.

Please don't misunderstand, I was not implying that it's okay to judge people by their post count and reg date. I was simply saying that's one of the reasons that the OP was receiving what she considers "flames," and sadly, it proved to be true.

If anything, the line you were quoting was a jestful poke at Panzer.

Random nitpick even though this has been discussed to death. This is a busy time of year for students and family time, so I really would expect things to be a bit slower. Considering my classes were half full today, many people are traveling to grandma's house and aren't itching to find wi-fi to play a bit of CoX. Most people aren't going to pull a Zaboo and find wi-fi at a close relatives funeral, for instance.

Sorry, just had to point that out. I would agree that CoH is a little slower in the past month or so (compared to this summer, which was very busy... we had doom threads like this then, too... which goes to show why people hate doom threads), but nothing too bad. I find and form teams quite quickly, and see people doing so at many hours of the day. I play on Victory, which isn't one of the high pop servers, too.

Your mention of the words "birds" and "confused" in the same sentence somehow triggered a reference in my noggin to this. The video starts off cool, progresses to "wow" then ends up in the Twilight Zone.

And everyone in my SG seems to have caught the Dragon Age/Call of Duty bug thats going around.

Still... no issues getting teams on Virtue but its high pop server to begin with.

I think it is legitimate to call into question the longevity of the game before spending more time and money developing characters in it.
And I feel that it's not appropriate for this section at all in the first place. This isn't Player Rhetorical Questions, nor is that a question that can be answered in an objective fashion. It's a Discussion topic.

This section is specifically for Players to help Players, and preferably for questions with concrete factual answers. Concerning the OPs question; I believe CoX is going to be fine.

I did take a break, tried reactivating my old, open-beta account for Warhammer Online and after a week and change came back here with a sigh of relief.

And for those people who worry about the number of players online at any one point, it seems to me that most of the people I've played with the longest are on /hide. Though of course that is my own personal experience and should not be taken as a blanket statement concerning the majority of people in this world.

Chad, you have my apologies. I completely misunderstood the point that you were making.
You did indeed prove your point #2.

I think you're also correct in your entire premise.

So wait - no matter if it's a fine and healthy number as far as MMOs go, you're still going to think of it as too low? That reminds me of anorexics: "Even though my height/weight ratio is where it should be, I'm still too fat."

NCsoft still see CoH as (successful enough)/(has enough potention) to throw money at it left right and center, so i don't think it's going anywhere soon.

Subscription numbers are fairly healthy, considering it's a niche game, which has just had a major competitor released, and will probably peak again come going rogue.
WoW's numbers are generaly considered by the gaming comunity to be slightly exagerated, including accounts that are inactive, or have previously been banned.

One of the key's to CoH's success, imo, has been the free content updates. Where as many MMOs release new content as paid-for-expansions, that content is released in CoH throughout the year at intervals, keeping it atleast a bit fresher.

It's graphics aren't that great ( But we're hoping Going Rogue fixes that ), it's engine is dated and it's combat may be a little dated as well.. I also notice many of the servers ( Guardian for instance ) are nearly dead ( Almost empty ) and the most populated servers don't seem to have that many people on them in the great scheme of things.

Recently I had read that CoH released their subscriber numbers for 2009 and it rounded nearly 130,000 people ( Not quite reaching 130,000 - Something more like in the 128's or something, I think. ) and I notice quite a lot of talk.. Well, everywhere.. From CoH players, haters and lovers alike.. Frankly I'm worried for the game..

It'd be nice if NCSoft staff could answer this, but I don't hold my breath for that.. My question is.. How much is actually riding on the release of Going Rogue being successful? If it's unsuccessful, is that it? Are we looking at dealing with another Dungeon Runner or Tabula Rasa? I hope the game will be okay, but.. At the moment from looking at subscription numbers, discussion and the facts.. It looks kind of grim.

There is another important thing to remember that I don't think anyone has brought up (I didn't read all responses), is that the game is still making tons of money. Whether you believe 100K subs is a lot or nothing is honestly not as important, to a game that has already paid back what it cost to develop, as how much cash flows in regularly. The ninja pack is selling great, and the magic pack before that sold great and the magic pack before that sold great. All those thousands and thousands of ten dollars for booster packs that are very quick and easy to develop help the longevity of the game a lot.

Yup... Dragon Age is a long game to play through, and very replayable, so a lot of people are going to latch onto it. It should appeal to the likings of many CoH and other MMO players, actually. And that's just one game.

We'll probably see another uptick with our new Holiday event, and whenever the next update comes. People always want to see the new shinies, wherever they may be.

Exactly. And we'll see another temporary dip when STO goes live because people will want to check it out.

People need to remember that just because some guys/gals want to play with the new shiny, it doesn't mean they cancelled their subs here. This game has established a large core of loyal dedicated customers who won't leave until the bitter end, and even then they'll have to be dragged out screaming and kicking.

lol, this just in, CO is on Steam for $19.99, half price!

I think that the OP needs to take this into consideration:

No, the game doesn't have WoW numbers. But it's still making NCSoft good money. We seem to be safe, as our favorite game will keep going on for the foreseeable future

With the 60 days still?

At least there, it doesn't look pathetic by being next to it's release version for full price and only 30 bucks Xp
