Underwater?

I'm going to kill everyone's pony and say that as long as I am on this project, it will never happen. They will have to replace me with a gibbering idiot to get the okay to move forward with animation and VFX needed to support 'underwater' zones.

And then it will take years and ultimately look stupid.

P.S. Aquaman is lame!

Thank God, I was getting sick of this argument. Even if I was right.

I really wish I would have grabbed a screenshot from when a 5th Column Vampyri from the final mission of the Imperious Taskforce mentioned "someone" wanting to explore Atlantis. I believe it was right after i15.. I haven't seen that dialogue since..

Depends on the writer...

However, I more than understand your stance. At the same time, is there any possibility of maps with windows/portholes that make the rooms look like they are underwater without having to put up with the shenanigans of coding attacks for a submerged area?

That's something that bothers me about the drug. If overdosing on it mutates someone and gives them heightened regeneration and/or nigh-invulnerability, how do the Trolls take Superadine?

ACK! I'm confused! We should already have most of the animations needed for such things : we already have a swimming animation, it would need to be adjusted for vertical movement though. We also have fly animations which would work just fine for fighting underwater.

So other than making water effects, what do we need ?

* I'm ignorant of how things are actually coded and such in the game, common sense is what I'm using to examine Bab's claims here and I could be wrong.

Let me get this straight: You're saying that when we get an underwater zone in the next Issue, you're not going to provide SCUBA suits for our ponies?

Cherry-flavored suppositories?

So what you're saying is, when DCUO comes out. Gotcha.

And since I haven't seen anybody mention it (though I might have missed it), I kinda liked the underwater areas back when I played EQ2.

P.S. Be sensitive. Aquaman is conceptually challenged.

So... what's they pay for a gibbering idiot these days? Am I qualified?

Disclaimer: bad text is my fault, tried to retext the dialog to appear larger than it originally was but that is the exact line he said.

Awwww, Aquaman's got "Little Man" Syndrome. He thinks he's one of the big dogs, it's so cute! There there, Fishpants, I'm sure your cephalopod psychiatrist wants to hear aaaall about it...

P.S. It looks like he's trying to make Supes smell his blue finger...

That was actually Martian Manhunter but he still got wooped by Aquaman. Something to do with that hand having some hell of a lot of magic power.

The problem with Aquaman is that unless you are talking about the Justice League Unlimited version (who could control water telekinetically) he's pretty much useless on the 99.9% of superhero jobs that occur on dry land and do not involve fish. He's actually pretty cool in comics based on just him, since he's actually underwater in Atlantis where his powers work. But add him to a normal (land-based) team and he becomes the guy who mans the communications relay and joins in on the once in a blue moon underwater mission.

Not that he'll be able to tell his therapist anything once Superman gets done heat-visioning the top of his head off.

The current version of Aquaman has:
  • Undersea adaptation,
  • telepathy,
  • healing factor,
  • enhanced senses,
  • Super strength,
  • durability and stamina,
  • Extra resistance to heat/energy based attacks,
  • Left hand is made of water and possesses mystical properties
Note the telepathy is not listed to be exclusively to fish, fish just happen to blindly obey him. Of all the listed powers only the undersea adaptation (breathing) is exclusively underwater (duh.)

The only thing I am not sure is how strong is he supposed to be (sans the mystical hand.)

He actually has hardcore super strength though not to the same degree as Superman. On that note, he's more willing to "fight dirty" than most superheroes. I think it is canon that he's lifted an ocean liner (on land).

Interesting... they've really beefed Aquaman up in recent years. Back when I read more comics he pretty much had fish telepathy, the ability to swim at high speeds, moderate super strength, and enhanced toughness, speed and agility. He was certainly more powerful than a normal human on land, but not really in the same league as (for example) the Sub Mariner. A definite step up from the old Superfriends cartoon version, but still strictly a B-lister (especially in the Justice League).

If he's got full-blown telepathy, enhanced healing, and full blown super strength now then I can see him actually being a lot more useful on land. But what's up with the water hand? Last I remember he had a sort of harpoon style hook thing...

Oh well. Will the graphics upgrades at least stop our feet from clipping through the "floor" of the water?

Personally, I like the little write-up that Heroclix put on their space map. Everyone is assumed to have oxygen suits and maneuver packs for this map. That's paraphrasing, but the intent is, it doesn't matter how the characters acquired the means to be in the environment, THAT's where the battle is.
So your suggestions are A: technobabble handwaving and B: special setting zones that don't feel like the special setting at all?
