Everything about FOnewearls. What they don't tell you about there is the bonus damage to Tier-1 spells, making for some of the best single-target damage in the game. FOnewearls were boss hunters...I remember my first fight with the Sil Dragon, and taking it apart in seconds. Once I got my hands on this beauty, my FOnewearl just became unfair.

Man, those were good times...Lots of good memories of the "Glory Days".

I'm a 31 year old male, and I'd say my characters run about 65/35% male to female ratio, but a great deal of the new ones I make are female. I'm not really quite sure of the reason for this, but I heard a decent explanation in-game once, which was : "If I'm gonna be staring at someone's butt for 2 or 3 hours, I'd rather be looking at a woman's butt."
Can't say as I can entirely rebut that statement..
My wife, on the other hand, has mostly female characters.

I have two male toons and two females in CoH. I know the first character I made of the other sex, I found it very odd to be referred to in-game as the opposite gender because of my avatar, but with one of them at 50 now, I've gotten used to it. My friends pulled me into their tabletop RP, and it messes with their heads a little that I play a male character as often as female. I basically go with whatever seems to fit the personality I've developed.

Champion: Feride Edain, Level 50 Vigilante Blaster; Quicksilver Cure, Level 33 Controller; Silent Gemini, Level 44 Tanker; Aisa Moirai, Level 19 Villain Dominator
Virtue: Aurora's Blaze, Level 50 Peacebringer; Atrytone, Level 50 Tanker

Male player. My melee characters are predominantly male. The one exception off the top of my head is the very tall female shield/dark tank. All others are predominantly female. Looking at around a 70/30 or 65/35 split.

Apparently I have it stuck in my head that men should get more blood on their hands.

Be well, people of CoH.

Welll... I'm a 30 year old (wah!) straight woman and of my 83 characters, all but two and a half are female. The half being one with two costume slots, using the magic, uh, well, the science of the science pack, to make one male, one female. But the female one was first.

Oh and one of the two fully male characters is a transvestite. The other one I dual-box as a duo with his wife.

Meanwhile my boyfriend has considerably fewer characters than me and they're all male.

I also like to create trashy chest-slider-to-the-max characters that mean I sometimes get mistaken for a male player. I find it quite funny.

Prior to joining the ranks Paragon, the thought of playing a male character never occured to me anyway.
It's the weird male grunting that does it for me. I have a few male concept characters I've made, but most are still stuck in tutorial zones. I did get one male character to level 8 or 10, but all the grunting wigged me out. I'm not supposed to be hearing those sounds when I'm alone in my room. Creepy.

I'm female and all the characters I actually play are female. I nearly always play with the sound on, hence the annoyance over the weird grunting. I occasionally play without sound, but it's harder to locate glowies and I also tend to get disoriented. Besides, leaving the sound on sometimes clues me in to what's around the corners or on the catwalk above me. Those juicer freaks are loud!

I'm a 20 year old female player.

Even though I don't have a lot of characters in total, I can say about 70% of my characters are female. However, I don't tend to care much about this.

Personally, I think actual player gender isn't really an important factor in the character gender people tend to roll. Sure, 70% of my characters are female, but I don't recall this being because I'm also female. It just goes with their concept to be females.

I just think gender stereotypes are just that. Stereotypes. I don't take them too seriously. But they make good starting points for hilarious conversations!

Also, MorganaFiolett, I get mistaken for a male all the time for making characters with skimpy outfits. It's hilarious.

You've pretty much summed up my attitude too. Male IRL, but all toons I have in this and in any other game where I get to choose are female, with some very occasional exceptions.

With altitis, my current tally in this game is somewhere around thirty toons, all female.

Male player, mid-30s.

I don't have access to the game at the moment to get an exact count, but I have eight lvl 50s; first three were male, next four female, then the most recent male. I have four toons in the 30+ range - 2M, 2F (though the F are both 40+). I have two characters in the teens that I team with my son, one male, one female.

So pretty even, though I have a number of lower level toons scattered about and most that pop to mind are female. So maybe a slight edge to female toons.

I only have one character... 'Bikini Bunny Bot 5000'!!

She looks like a girl but she's really a robot. She'll go on dates, but..

They normally end up naked passed out under the short leg of a
gangster's card table in keeping it level. But that's cause they
got 'fresh' with me.

hmm... I am a female, over 40... (but in my 30s when I started playing coh)

I have 4 50s - all female
I have 8 more in the 30s and 40s - one male
I have 12 in the 20s - 3 males.

lower than that, I can think of 5 other males in the teens (a couple brutes, a warshade, a defender, and a mastermind). I probably have way more females but can't recall enough names or levels exactly.

Of all my ATs, the only one that's primarily male is tankers. My highest and 2nd highest tanker are both male (one in the 20s one in the teens).

2 of my 50s and my highest level male (37) are defenders.

my only 50 villain and my highest villain male (27) are corrupters.

So I'd say about 1/8 male characters here, with maybe 1/20 the play time.

The highest level, male defender, is a remake of a concept character who was female originally. I disliked her name after a while and deleted her, to remake on another server, different name, and male.

I have NO male characters whatsoever. I just don't like the models or animations. or the grunt.

The female models have better costume options, and (insert pet peeve here) proper long hair.

I want to thank everyone who posted here on this thread. You all have given me a great deal of wonderful feedback. I am sure that this will give me some great discussion points in my discussion group. It also seems as though I may have given some of you some food for thought as well as to your choices of character genders. In any case I want to give a HUGE Thank YOU to Leandro for taking the time to do the research on Freedom and Infinity servers for me. I appreciate everyone who has pitched in their two cents on this subject. I will be sure to ask for more info if I come up with something else provocative.

Without going into detail about how many of my characters are male or female, I can sum up my entire MMOG experience of the last 10 years with a simple anecdote:

I played EQ for 3 years on the Test Server with a very close guild called The Grove. When other games started coming out, a bunch of us moved to Dark Age of Camelot for a few months.

I created a male troll as my main character. I didn't like how the female trolls looked.

One of my friends asked me, "Why did you pick a male character?"

Keep in mind that everyone in my guild knew I was male IRL. Others in the guild had switched genders when they switched characters before, but apparently it felt "weird" to him for me to play a male character...

I'm pretty sure that somewhere out there is a survey that claims the exact opposite.
I'm male and have always played mostly male characters since being a kid (i think about 80% of my characters are male).
I've seen these conversations on other MMO forums before, usually with the teen males stating "I play female because i don't want to stare at a dude's *** all day!" :P
A lot of it probably has to do with what kind of game it is too (A PvP oriented one will yield much different results from a PvE oriented one for example, since the communities have very different outlooks on things.)

I used to have more female to male characters, but when a running joke became that men were rare/endangered non-existant in the RP community, I jolted my brain and brought in male characters to make up the balance.

I'm a middle-aged woman, and I don't consider my alts to be representations of myself, but rather characters I create, just like I create characters when I write. I just did a quick check, and I have eight male characters and nine female characters.

About 90%+ of my characters are female (not counting deleted characters), with a couple of the males being some of my longest surviving characters (about 3 or so of them were made in my early days of CoX).

I honestly don't really much like the look of male characters in this game... primarily because even at minimum buff-ness, they're extremely buff. The whole chest slider thing annoys me on females (it can barely go under 'super'!), but that's less of an issue for me (maybe it'd be worse if I wasn't nearly always looking at them from behind and so I rarely saw it during gameplay?). Also, the male sounds have slowly started to annoy me (ever since one of my friends said she hates playing male characters because of their 'manly sounds').

I think the whole notion that one gender is inherently more interesting or complicated than the other is rather silly. Honestly, I've yet to meet anyone that I've found to be uncomplicated... many people try to hide behind claiming to be simple, but every time I've broken through that barrier I've found them to be quite complicated individuals. Sure, many people I've personally found to not be interesting, but that's not because they weren't interesting, but merely because I wasn't interested (huge difference). People are complex (by even being a TEENAGER, you have billions if not trillions of events influencing your every thought, your every action, your every movement!).
