Man, I love this show. I have this week's episode on record. I really need to watch it now! That's fantastic.
  2. I always keep my weapon the same for AR and Munitions Mastery. I use Cryo Freeze Ray all the time, and there's never a redraw to switch over to freeze ray or to go back to AR powers. I'm sure that's not the case, though, if you set the two powersets to have different weapons.
  3. That was a-dorable! Thanks for the link.

[BMT of Champion]Stoll Nagga Da Bob: lol
[BMT of Champion]Gilia1: glue? nah it's magic tissue paper
[BMT of Champion]SCyberTaz: she used muscilenge
[BMT of Champion]Mr Squid: Taz, I have no idea what that is, but it sounds horrifying
[BMT of Champion]SCyberTaz: glue made from molluscs snails and squids
    [BMT of Champion]Starfire: [Satori] lol
rofl Ah, BMT. How I have missed thee.
  5. Yay! Don't know when I'll have time to join one, but Feride has been a part of this the past two years. Can't wait to be there again! Maybe next year I'll have another toon on Champion of a level to join in.
  6. Recently heard during a long night of screaming at the monitor as my team really failed the STF:

    * "Why are you all following the stupid scrapper who doesn't know what he's doing?!"

    * "When I say 'Everybody but the tank stay out of melee', I mean everybody. Not everyone except the scrapper, or everyone except the blaster who wants to make a melee attack on occasion. EVERY-BODY!"

    * "Why the frick do I keep pulling Ghost Widow and Scirocco? Why can't I get just one? And why the hell does he keep strolling up here five minutes after she's chased after me? What is his problem?"

    * "We're not ignoring the ambushes because some of us are slow and squishy and die to the ambushes that follow us up the elevators! So, yes, we're not following you, and the tank is helping us because he's a good guy who doesn't leave the rest of his team to rot! Unlike some other stupid people I know who don't give a (crap) about their teammates."

    * "What the hell? How did I die again?"

I had to apologize profusely to my roommates at the end of the night for being so loud through the three or so hours it took us to ultimately fail the TF.
  7. My main is still stuck on Hero, because I keep playing in Praetoria, so I am blueside only right now. Definitely interested, though. Got on a group for this the first day, and we got lots of inf and lots of debt. Also had lots of fun, even if we didn't get the Big Bad.
    @Stoll Nagga Da Bob
  8. What I keep wondering is why, as a Loyalist, there are PPD officers out there who are openly hostile to me. I get the yellow bracket guys, especially since the PPD and Powers Division don't always get along. But why do some of them attack me like I'm Resistance?
  9. Just stopping by to agree with the OP. I've only played a couple of hours post-GR, but what I've seen so far is amazing. Praetoria looks fantastic, and I love the branching dialogue trees, which made the "Get Flowers for Cleopatra" mission for Praetor White so much fun. I also loved to see my objection to Reese about being in the Powers Division come back up when I came into Nova Praetoria. I'll admit I'm only Level 4, but figuring out this new character and what she would or wouldn't do is a ton of fun. I will take forever to level her, just because I keep reading every bit of dialogue I can find!

My Level 50, Feride, is working to become a Vigilante, which is an interesting and mildly disturbing process, I've discovered. It really makes me examine this character who's been around almost five years now. She has become like a new person, who I'm trying to feel out, just because the moral options are taking me so far out of my comfort zone. And I love it!

I can't wait to finally get back to the game this week and see what else I can find to do.

Longbow is washing their hands and saying he has gone to far and plan on bringing him to justice.

Hero: Freymuth is dangerous, go ahead and capture him yourself to avoid Longbow casualty.
Vigilante: Help Freymuth escape, which means you'll have to beat up Longbow.
I did this mission and helped Freymuth escape, surprisingly without being ambushed on the way out. I also applied some fists to Westin Phipps' face. Playing only Blueside, I was unaware how villainous Phipps really is, but Feride would have completed that mission gleefully.

Those are the only two Tip missions I've done, and they were last week. I've got two more waiting for me in Contacts, but I'm leaning more toward the Hero options on both of those.

Does it take 10 tip missions in general or 10 of a specific morality choice before a Morality Mission comes up? I usually like being a casual player, but in this case, it does have its detriments.

Edit: How can I get me some of those Nemesis tip missions? I keep getting DE and Malta, which I always delete. Also, does anyone know if there are Rikti tip missions heroside? I have a character who would love them.
  11. I have only spent about an hour and a half in Praetoria, due to family stuff. But what I have seen so far is pretty darn awesome. The graphics are great, though my good comp almost mapservered about five times. My problem (which isn't really a problem, because it's great!) is that I keep reading all of the mission text and picking all the snarky responses to my contacts. I think it's great that when I talked to Reese about maybe not being part of the Powers Division, that came back to me when I talked to Praetor White the first time. I haven't gotten the level where characters I kill I can't talk to, but I can't wait for that. The storyline is engaging, and I'm spending as much time reading as going through the missions.

I'm having so much fun, and even though it will take me forever to finally hit level 20, I can't wait to get back to Praetoria and see where it leads me. Well done, Devs.
  12. Rawr! Still out of town. Can't make it. Missed this last year too. *Sniff, sniff*

I wish I could be here for this. It's a real shame, because I love chasing after Rikti, especially on my 50 blaster. I still haven't been able to show up for one of these. I gotta cross my fingers and hope that someone decides this is worth doing next year and that I'm able to make it.

Good luck to everyone this weekend! Kick some Dropship butt.

A lot of people don't use IOs. I always look at the info windows when I team, and there are a lot of characters (especially on PuGs, but other places too) that have few set benefits--or none. That's the reason I brought up the IO-free scenario, because I have seen it so often.

  14. I am a long-time AR/Dev blaster. I have respeced this character about three or four times as powers have changed over the years. Feride was originally an I4 creation, so there's been a lot of stuff to work around in that time. I took Munitions Mastery as my Epic Pool, and with the revamp of that pool a couple issues ago, it has really increased the synergy with Devices. I am using Munitions and Dev in conjunction as control powers, and it's a new aspect to the character I never had before. I love it.

Web Grenade--Required, but something I have only recently begun using regularly(-ish). Was able to get it to stick on Ghost Widow on the STF, if I remember right, so I was pretty thrilled about that. Been using it on AVs and big bosses since. Not slotted that great, but I still have a couple in there, so it does stick on occasion.

Caltrops--Got this one or two slotted for slow, which is fun when I need to run. Wish I didn't have to click on the location, because that stops me using it so often (I'm bad with the mouse in this game), but kinda can't get around that. Otherwise, I like this power. Fun to turn around and use it on the Knives of Artemis.

Taser--The only Dev power I've never had. No comment.

Targeting Drone--Had this as long as I've been able. A bonus to my IO sets, in my opinion. Slotted it for both end reduction and to hit bonus. For those who don't use IOs, it is a nice way to toggle-boost accuracy without having to resort to a second-tier pool power. I only have IOs on my AR/Dev, and I do miss the long-term benefits of this power (including both accuracy and +perception) on my other toons.

Smoke Grenade--Just picked this up in my last respec. Not slotted real well, but still love it. Part of the control powers I pull out, and this is a quick thing, so I use it often. Especially if a group or an AV is beating up on the melee folks. Every little bit helps, in the end.

Cloaking Device--Had this for ages too. I've got it slotted for defense, which helps me with survivability. I saw a difference from the first moment I had this power, even before I slotted it. I love watching shots go right past my character. It's fun. Not good enough to stealth a mission, though. I've never been able to do that with this power.

Trip Mine--I team a lot, so I don't often get to set up a field of these. Plus, when I'm soloing, I don't have the patience to do that very much. But if there's a pause before heading into a group, it's nice to drop one of these at my feet as a defense if someone starts coming after me. "Oh, you're going to attack me. Here, take this mine to the face first." It's especially nice if I can set up near a corner or something, so I can ensure the enemy will set it off.

Time Bomb--I had this for ages, and I don't know why, because I never, ever used it. It takes forever to get down, uninterruptible. And once it counts down, either the mob isn't where it needs to be, or they're all dead already. I set this off more by accident in WW than on purpose in a mission. Gone a respec or two ago. (An option to "Click to Detonate" would make this power much better.)

Gun Drone--This used to be an awesome power. I loved this when I first got it, somewhere I8 or I9. It didn't move like it does now, but it did pretty decent damage and was often a decent distraction. Now, it takes much much longer to set up (again, uninterruptible), and it only lasts 30 seconds - unlike the Malta ones that last for-EVAR.

I use Smoke Grenade, Web Grenade, Caltrops, and Trip Mine in conjunction with Cryo Freeze Ray and Surveillance from Munitions Mastery. I discovered a few months ago the debuff abilities in all this, and they are used often against AVs and EBs, but also on hard to kill mobs. I run a lot of TFs, so I get to do this a lot. I still pour out a lot of damage and chain attacks, but I can break up the damage to help my teammates. Maybe a different use for this power set, but I saw some synergy with Munitions that I couldn't ignore. It may not work for everyone, but I have a lot of fun with it.

    Quote:
Actually I'd love for it to be called Petard and apply a high magnitude knockback effect and some damage to you as well as dealing damage but I doubt that would be popular.
I would totally pick this power back up under these circumstances, just to be "hoist on my own petard." Yeah, I'm a Shakespeare geek.

Gotta say, I run TFs to see all the bits and pieces and the plotline, not to rush through them without seeing anything. I think that was part of the reason I hated the Kahn TF when I went through it the first time--I had no idea what was going on. I need to organize TFs myself, I think, if I want to get any TFs done the way I want. I just can never find anyone to join my team when I try.

Concerning TF failures, I'm a semi-casual player, and I've got my share of failures, that's for sure. Even with experienced players on or leading my team. We failed States the first time I tried to run it, because we pulled Ghost Widow and Scirocco together on the last mission (ouch!). A lot of my teammates had run States before, and I (an AR blaster with lots of lovely range on Snipe) was instructed to pull GW first. We got both, so I was, of course, the first one down. Most of the group got back together the next week and ran into the same problem, so I decided to pull the other two AVs first, with much more success. Still lots of death, but no failure. The ITF I think I failed three or four times before I ever got a success. Some offense-heavy teams and a couple where we kept losing members. If you've got the right team, you can run rampant over it, but if you don't, it hurts like you wouldn't believe. I've never failed Lady Grey, which makes me happy, because they hurt as a blaster, but I still love mowing me down some Rikti. When my friend and I first ran it, we were a team of seven and took something like 5 or 6 hours to complete (and soon post-I10, so way before psi damage was common). To be fair, we might have done better if we hadn't lost our rad early and if our temp power wasn't with a dedicated emp defender (Honoree's Unstop lasts for-freakin'-ever!). Lady Grey is my favorite TF, but it really suffers when a team tries to rush through it. There's a great story there that doesn't come through especially well, if at all, on a speed run.

I've been away from CoH for a while now, but I can't wait until I get access back and can try the new Posi TF, because it very much needed an update.
  16. Congrats to Darc and his family!
  17. Hey Witty and Sunday team. Sorry I wasn't able to be there this weekend. I ended up getting caught up in the home-improvement project of death (death, I say!). I really wish I'd been able to be there and would have much rather killed some Rularuu than stripped wallpaper. Hopefully, I'll find some time to run that TF again soon, but it won't be Shardtober. Boo.

Glad to see you all had a good time anyway!
  18. And rezzes are always nice, just in case. Alright, I'm in. If nothing else, we'll kill things very quickly.

    For the Sunday 10/25 TF
I would like the start time at 5 pm EST (2 pm Pacific) as best option. Thanks.
    1) @Witty Librarian - Gonna see about leveling Psychotro Paul to 50.
    2) @Talon Arsenal - Amdis (lvl 46 ar/eng blaster)
    3) @Force - Exodus Force (WP/SS Tanker)
    4) @Captain Drej - Delirious (lvl 50 kin/sonic def)
    5) @Nyx Nought Nothing - 50 Def or 46-ish Tanker. (Probably Def)
    6) @Renamon - 50 Fire blaster, MA/Regen Scrapper, ir Ill/Emp Troller
    7) @Maxi001 - 50 Noir-Rose Psy/Mental Blaster
    8) @Stoll Nagga Da Bob - Feride Edain (50 AR/Dev Blaster)

    See you all then!
  19. Dang it! I would sign up, but my only 50 right now is a blaster, and you've already got enough of those, Witty. Drat. I missed this one last year too, because I forgot what time it was running. I will definitely be a backup if someone can't make it.

If there's interest, though, I'd also be willing to put together a group earlier in the day on Saturday, say maybe 4 or 5 pm EST. Saturdays are always better for me, and the regular Saturday team is running awfully late on this side of the country. If there's any interest in that, please let me know.

Either way, good luck, Witty and friends. Hope you finish Shardtober with a blast.
  20. I've finally got time to join in the Shardtober fun, yey. All I've got in range for Shardtober is my AR/Dev blaster. Since Saturday seems to be full, I'll get my name in on Sunday.

For the Sunday 10/18 TF, I will host. For now. >:-)
I would like the start time at 4 pm EST (1 pm Pacific, 3 pm Central) as best option. Thanks.
    1) @Witty Librarian - Either Wittylibrarian (50 Blaster) or Psychotro Paul (45 for now Blaster).
    2) @Talon Arsenal - Amdis (45 ar/eng blaster)
    3) @Force - Exodus Force (Willpower/SS Tank)
    4) @Stoll Nagga Da Bob - Feride Edain (50 Blaster)
    5)
    6)
    7)
    8)

Hope to see you all Sunday.

Me too. Got a lvl 50 on Virtue that would be more than willing to join in Tank smash.

In the meantime, I'll be bringing my measly lvl 11 to the RWZ tonight. It's my only tank on Champion, or I'd be bringing a higher-level one. See you all tonight!

On the flip side AR/Dev is more powerful solo than in a group, since taking the time to setup a minefield is great solo but generally slows down a team. Overall I'd say if you want an AR/Dev for thematic reasons then go for it but if you're looking for a top tier blaster you may want a different secondary.

I think you pretty much hit the pros and cons of the set on the head. The only thing I'd add is that devices actually gives good passive mitigation, CJ/Hover + CD + Smoke Grenade gives a noticeable reduction in incoming damage for a Blaster and a solid base to build on with IOs if you get that far.

    Both QFT

I've been AR/Dev since I4, I think. I have great fun with her, and she is definitely the one I've invested the most time, money, and energy into. However, it may not be for everyone, especially the way I play her. I run mostly on teams, where the build doesn't really shine, but I don't have the patience to run solo, because mines and things take too long to set up for the pace I'd rather run (although I do love seeing mine fields go off like dominoes). I've respecced out of time bomb and gun drone as a result, but they are still great powers for solo work. Trip mine is definitely workable on teams, but you need to use Hasten if you want to get more than one on the ground before you have to get to work.

Unlike the rest of the secondaries, Dev really is about damage mitigation, with caltrops, web grenade, smoke grenade, and cloaking device, and with mine and time bomb killing enemies before they get to you. I love all these powers. However, I find AR to do pretty decent damage. I've slotted snipe pretty well, but even just with SOs, I could mostly take out an even con with one shot. I also love the AoEs that come with AR. I just find a good spot, pick an enemy in the middle of the pack, and light 'em up. Because this was my first blaster, I've got less patience for more single-target primaries, which is the reason I gave up on my Psy.

AR/Dev can be a bit of a balancing act, but once you figure it out, there's the potential to have a lot of fun with it. Hope you get what you're looking for and have a good time!

    WP/DM Help

After 2 years, I have finally gotten around to both Willpower and Dark Melee. (Yeah... I can't maintain altitis.) Anyway, I hit level 11 the other day and am coming up on 12 pretty quick. At this point, I have:

Willpower: High Pain Tolerance, Mind Over Body, Fast Healing, Indomitable Will, Rise to the Challenge
Dark Melee: Shadow Punch, Shadow Maul

There are some DM powers I really, really want soon (Taunt and Siphon Life), and I am looking forward to Fitness. Travel powers can wait, 'cause I have no problem using temp powers for that. However, I get Quick Recovery next level and Heightened Senses at 18.

My problem is I keep going after the WP powers, and I'm struggling to find a balance. I know I can't tank on this char quite the same way I have on my Stone tank, but I'm still not sure how that works on a practical level.

So, my questions are: Should I be going for a different balance between my primary and secondary? What powers should I really be taking and which ones aren't so hot? What kind of things do I need to know about playing a WP tank, as opposed to being a big hunk of rocky rock?

    Thanks for your help.

    Doom McLean

I love this song, so I sang most of it out loud. Very clever. Well done, Reiraku!
