Anyone seen this? New expansion?

Like the difference between Christmas morning when you were 7, and Christmas morning now
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm in my 30's now and I'm more excited on Xmas morning now than I ever was when I was younger.
[/ QUOTE ]
Christmas? CHRISTMAS! CHRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISTMAS! ChristmasChristmasChristmas!
Well, great. Now I'm excited and it's still four months away.
[ QUOTE ]
In the example I gave, you can let someone go, or kill them. Letting them go swings the metre to good, killing them swings it to evil. Now, if they can't resist then it's a basic moral choice and can be judged by a machine, but the guy is trying to escape, so it's not that simple. If he escapes because you aren't good enough to catch him, that doesn't make you a good guy, it makes you an incompetent bad guy.
Now, in the eyes of your superior, that may amount to the same thing and you get booted out of the bad guy club, but that isn't likely to get you voted into the good guy club either.
[/ QUOTE ]
And the worst part is I only let them go so that someone survived to tell the rogue isles who'd wiped out the others.
i.e. letting someone go isn't even necessarily goodness or incompetence.

If the game shifts to multiple outcomes being possible from missions does that effectively mess up mission-sharing?
Could it even start making PuGs less attractive as PuG members all want differing outcomes?
A change in forum threads:
2008 - Can't get a team. No-one plays when I do. Merge the servers.
2009 - Can't get a team of villains who want to be evil. Can't get a team of falling heroes. Merge the servers into morality groups.

Which is why I think that the outcome will only affect the mission owner, regardless of what happens.
Of course, that leads to issues with RPing etc.
"Why did that virtuous hero slaughter that person?"
"No idea, but I didn't do it, so my morality meter is fine."
"Do you have ANY idea what morality is, jerkwad?"
etc.
We need more details before we can decry or applaud this thing totally.

Actually I often felt ME 'tricked' me into doing things I hadn't planned. I often chose a response when talking to someone based on the text example of what I was going to say only for the words that came out of my mouth to bare little if any relation to the tone of the example, which would lead the conversation off on a tangent to where I wanted it to go.
[/ QUOTE ]
Except for, y'know, the game making it pretty clear that the lowest options on the right were confrontational or pushy, with the ones on the left being expositionary in nature. They never said the dialogue you could choose was specific; it only set the tone of your response.
Oddly I haven't read the entire thread... mainly as the page count goes up between one page and the next.
For me...
With the new (proposed) content call it CoH2 and release as a full standalone. Not an expansion.
Any which way I'd pay full game price to play what the OP posted! (x2 or however many accounts I have when and if this finally arrives.)

Sounds like too much of a gamble for them right now. I'd get it but would every one who plays right now do the same?

Really? So if you save a bunch of people who are being attacked by the Skulls and they then blow up downtown Paragon the following week? You did good? Or doesn't it matter, since you did "good" in the here & now?
[/ QUOTE ]
Comic book morality (as defined by the main heroes gebnerally) is exactly that though. How many times has Batman saved the Joker knowing full well he'll kill again?
So the answer in this case is that the poster is actually correct.
The argument that the Batman is actually responsible for the Jokers future murders because he simply could have not saved him doesnt apply here because, well, you could argue that one forever.

But it wouldn't be compulsary to get it. You could play as now. You'd only be missing out if you wanted the content in the first place and seeing other players use that content may persuade you to end up buying it yourself.
And CoH would be on the shelves again.
So I think the downside is manageable.

I have a strong feeling this will come down to 2-3 factors. Most important will be how all this will compare with CO.
If CO falls back in offerings or way things are going to be offered even by the slightest i think will be hard to draw the CoH loyal customers.
Second will be approach to content that previously hasnt been touched much.Like end game depth which seems to be part of the focus for this expansion.
I know that if all this hit right now the stores in form of an expansion i would buy for both my accounts.

Oddly I agree with GG on this. Frankly being able to almost predict the missions you're going to get and know what you're going to have to do for the umpteenth time but with just a difference cossie and set of powers is dull. I don't care how you try and convince me that the nuances of a different team make up or builds makes each encounter unique, it really doesn't.

This is a concern of mine. this game (admittedly Cryptic not NC,) are, in my mind, notorious for cut and paste.
Look at CoV.
A part of me is still concerned they'll take the easy (lazy)route.
But I hope, and think this may be the case, that NC are a different animal to Cryptic altogether.

We don't know anything about how they'll do it right now. I don't think they'll launch a COH2 though - that'd split the playerbase even more if this thread's any indication.
[/ QUOTE ]
Provided we can move everything across, I dont really see a downside to CoH2.
And the big question has to be, with all the tech limitations this game currently has, compared to the bright shiny new engines and game play styles our soon to be competitors will have, can the game afford NOT to reinvent itself?

Actually a techie question.
Would it be possible for a CoH player to play with a CoH2 player?
Would it mean totally seperate games or could CoH2 simply overlay CoH1?
So a CoH2 player would see the coh2 content but a coh1 player would be on the same server but seeing from a coh1 perspective?
Could that be done? Surely that would be win win.

That would be an engine update to Co(H/V), not a new game.

I think it's Eve that runs several engines together. I don't know if the content differs between those engines - I doubt it. I also don't know if it's just a graphical tweak.

And here I was thinking Champions Online was destined to be CoX2.
In any case, the faster they can release more content the better I'm not sure why game studioes don't do much payed for content if it helps move the game forward.
Freebies are all nice and fine, but patience isn't my strong side

Freebies can be done in bits and pieces, so they can essentially be released faster.
If you're having to pay real money for an expansion, you generally expect it to contain a lot of content and be well tested and bug free. Hence paid expansions take huge amounts of development time and come out at a slow rate.

Interesting!
...but as they admit, Its market research albeit very welcome market research. As soon as I hear it is both technically feasible and underway, then I'll be excited beyond belief.
Just cautiously tempering my rising hope here for what looks like a true fan's feature-wishlist.
In a new game maybe something like the newer elder scroll games can be achieved. For an example:
you are street hunting and at one mob of hellions you miss one of them and if runs away. Since it's gray you don't bother and just leave him. Then he can ambush you anywhere to revenge his comrades or influence some kind of threat level making hellions aggroing to you more easily.
