There is something a lot more than just simply losing a game about this. I guess this game, and the way its so chat friendly, gets under your skin big time. It just has something about it.

I gave up the gnme a couple of years ago ..(you may remember me from our clashes on these boards) I came back, reinvigorated by the incarnate system and the way the devs seemed to be really redoubling their efforts to make this game the best they could.

I left again owing to unforseen circumstances and I rejoined a month ago. Both times it had a coming home feel about it. ( I don't want to sound to washy here...) So, I too am devastated by this unforseen, pretty callous decision, not least because it leaves 80 good people out in thre cold, without the decency of at least warning them their jobs were on the line.

Every time I relog onto these boards I get an irrational hope that someones posted they had a change of heart or that the games been bought out or something. And I get this weird disappointment when i snap back to the real world a few seconds later.

f memory serves, you weren't happy when NC bought out Cryptic and (I hope I'm remembering correctly) you cited your distrust of corporations.

    How right you were.
  3. Why blame the "freeloaders?" The game is advertised as free to play. So, what do you expect?

Although, someone posted that how can a game making a profit impinge on the companys botton line negatively? That's a question that is confounding me.

If NC wanted to redirect Paragon Studios staff onto a project they thought may make more money, maybe I could see the business sense. But they let the devs go.

I'm not convinced that this is a decision based on fiscal priorities at all. More likely some internal politics are at work here.

It seems to me that cutting loose a (abiet small) profit making concern and throwing 80 jobs on the scrap heap so suddenly, without warning and without making at least some effort to salvage the game (or the studio) suggests that finances were NOT the cause of this.

What gets me is that the devs clearly didnt see this was coming, or even that it was a serious threat. That means there were no emails from NC, no conferences with Positron about targets not being met. No warnings that things must improve. And the devs, who do know a thing or two about subscriptions and money, were not alarmed by the current activety within the game.

Wouldn't you know if the company you were working for was doing badly? You get to see the figures. You can do maths. You feel an atmosphere. Tongues start wagging. You may not be sure but you start looking over your shoulder..start preparing for the worst...yet this seems to have been a total shock to Paragon studios. Which suggests they had no reason to believe the game is under performing. Which tells me that, based on any paremeters they worked on, they weren't.

I think something completely different to money is behind this. But we may never know exactly what.

You know.... I had a great Idea I may just put to NC, seeing as they are such a switched on company and all...

Super heroes are more in the public conciousness than ever before. And, judging by the billions of dollars spent in the cinema, people like super heroes. And, best of all, the very target market a company like NC wants to attract are a sizeable amount of the people spending those dollars.

Now if NC could only put out a super hero MMO and market the thing to just a small fraction of those people, surely a small number of those said people (in the 15-35 age bracket) might just try the game....

    Oh wait.....

That may be true directly.... but...

The servers that remain would be far more active. I have just moved my main to freedom a couple of weeks ago and I can tell you, without question, that an active server offers a FAR greater playing experience than a quiet one. By definition, that would mean that less players would quit and would, overtime, greatly improve the overall player base.

    That's unfair.

I have been dipping in and out of the game for several years and it's my right to do so. I have supported the game positively with my pocket and i suspect so have many of the others who "contributed."
Games like this will always have players coming and going and the designers know this from the outset. It's all about churn. These people that you cite did not contribute to the games fall, they contributed to the games 8 year success.

I blame enhancement divercification (and the nerfs) from all those years ago. The game never got those numbers back and left it weaker than it should have been.

I also blame NC for not advertising their super hero game when the very target market they should be targeting are out spending billions of dollars going to see the Avengers and all the other super hero movies. (which kind of implies that mid teens to early thirties types.the same people that enjoy gaming, actually are into super heroes.)
  7. What I can 't get my head around is that now, more than ever, exposure to the super hero genre is in the ascention. Every other movie is either a super hero flick, and we've had siesmic ones lately and a lot more to follow, or else a film with a super power theme such as Chronicles. Even the Jason Bourne legacy has an enhanced man as its hero.

And NC has a superhero game, full of content, full of ideas and enthusiasm right there.

I would have thought that NC, rather than close down a brand that, by all accounts IS making a profit, would actually put dollars into getting the game fully out there.

It's hard for me to understand why NC didn't want to capitalise on the super hero explosion.

  10. I have a main alt. I'd like to server transfer him at least for a while.
Now the name of my alt is taken on the new server. However I previously created an alt on that server with the same name but with a hyphen.

Sooo.. I'm thinking that if i rename my main alt to the hyphen version.. (although I better check that too) and delete the version on the new server then send across, will the new server accepr it or "remember" my deleted alt?.. (I have to say this is a bit of a performance.)

Or, if I can't change the name of my alt to the hyphened version on my current server, will the system pick up that the name is available on the new server (once I have deleted the current alt) and offer me that option?

And, If it doesnt, will I see the new name of my main and have the option to cancel the transfer BEFORE I actually commit?

And, If I decide I want to go " home" will I have this problem in reverse?

Sorry if this is confusing but I'm thinking that maybe server transfer is more labour intensive and prohibative than it need to be.

I simply would like to experience another server but want to keep my name. (even if I have to add a hyphen.) Can someone advise me? Thanks

    Chuck

For those of you who have never watched it, Chuck is a spy spoof about a nerd with Americas secrets in his brain. The comedy and action are frequently slapstick with no relationship with real life. The whole premise is ludicrous and the shelf life of the show is limited. How many times can we laugh at the ludicrous scenarios at the Buy More? How many times can we enjoy the gang going on I spy type missions?

I just watched the episode where Chuck and Sarah are conned out of their wedding money.
Every time I watch it, and this was no exception, the show starts and you can see the main story line is going to be over the top. Every time I think this is the episode where they finally run out of ideas, and by the end of the hour I find myself loving the show, the characters and their predicaments all over again.

Every single person involved in that show, to the writers who so skilfully navigate the fine line of slapstick humour to real drama, who actually get us to care about these larger than life characters, to the director, to the actors themselves, are masters of their craft.

I can only salute this show. It has a premise that is good for one season, two tops, yet the writers keep coming up with new ideas, new ways to maintain the core values of the show, yet move it along, as entertainingly as ever.

Has there ever been a show as skilfully put together as this one?

I know next season is the last but all good things come to an end. And this show is good. Really, really good.

I have no idea why anyone thought the idea behind Chuck was worth putting on TV.
But I and the relatively few people who watch it and get it, are sure glad they did.

ThatÂ’s all I wanted to say really.

I think you need to review the concept of Enhancement Diversification, here:

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Enhancement_Diversification

because right now you have a TON of wasted slots. ED is based on SO levels of enhancement, so when using high-level IO a lot of the third slot of the same type is not being used, and virtually none of the fourth slot.

Mouse over Unstoppable, for instance, and you'll see that although you've slotted almost 170% recharge enhancement, (the number in paretheses) you're actually getting only 105%. As a general rule, never slot more than three enhancements of the same type in a power, and often with level 50 common IOs you don't need more than two.

The reason why you're not at the S/L resist cap is that the powers that provide it are woefully underslotted for resistance. In the three resistance toggles you want to use all of the resistance pieces in RA; they simply do not need the levels of end reduction you've slotted. If they are fully slotted to around 56% resistance enhancement, all you need in RPD is the Steadfast +Def and one resist common to hit the hard cap.

Oh, and you definitely want to take Invinc, Rage and Foot Stomp as soon as they're available, the resistance passives can easily be delayed until the 20s or 30s, as can Tough and Weave.

Your attacks, however, definitely do need end reduction, and accuracy. The standard non-set slotting is 1xAcc, 1xEnd Red, 1xRecharge, 3xDamage, and those levels of enhancements are a good guide for sets too, though you can often reach higher levels of Acc, End Red and Recharge pretty easily with set IOs.

Fly is way overslotted. They increased its speed so now Fly is at the cap without needing enhancement. I'd throw a Fly common or the Winter's Gift proc in the base slot.

You need to decide what the overall goal of your build is. Probably the most common strategy these days is to try to soft-cap S/L/E/NE defense with one foe in range of Invinc. That can be an expensive proposition, but the closer to get to that goal, the better, because it will take fewer foes in range of Invinc for you to soft-cap.
Thank you for the time you've taken so far in putting this build together.

Actually what has frustrated me is that, looking at your build, I find I was only marginally weaker than you with res and health end while my reses were IO based. It's only now, that I put in the sets, that i've weakened substantially.
However, that said, defence was and still is, way lower than yours on almost every point.

Can you put an estimate on how much your proposed build wil cost? I just burned a large chunk of my inf on the build that just went south....
  15. Hers the data link. I am studying replies quite seriously and appreciate any help you can give me.

One thing worth mentioning: my build may be slightly gimped (I didnt know you can reach flight speed cap on less than three slots for a start) but I was SL capped when I was on IOs. It's only now I've dropped to 82%.

My defence is a different story but even then I rarely get troubled (barring incarnate trials) so, while my build can certainly use improvement, gimped may be too strong a term. Anyway:

  16. Hi all. i need help badly.
I've been swapping IOs for sets and have noticed my powers are being cut badly. SL was capped but is now 82% and I swear that when I swapped IOs for sets on my defence a while ago a similar thing happened but I wasn't studying my stats properly.
Can someone please put me on the straight and narrow bearing in mind i just spent 200 mill

  17. i've just seen XMen first class and I thought it was fabulous. I think from a comic lovers perspective, that (barring one or two canon issues) the care the story tellers and directors put into telling this story was something that people who love comics can be proud of.

As a comic book fan, I give extra kudoes to these big time film makers who actually respect source material.

The writers of this multi million dolar movie did not treat the XMen canon as a cartoon that kids read.
I'm not saying many filmmakers do these days (Chris Nolan) but they looked at the Xmen history, both cronologally and metaphorically and delivered a serious piece that put the tapestry and mythlogy of the Xmen into an entertainment of the highest order.
Character development, the pacing of the story, the acting were (overall,) of the highest quality.. especially the story of Charles and Eric.
I almost forgot I was watching a story that was going down a preordained path. And was I the only one who forgot that Charles was going to end up in a wheelchair?

I thought it was allround excellent.

Well done all round and a movie that comic book affectionados can be proud of.
Movies like this validate super heroes and give them a credibility that goes way beyond the strange looks you can get when you tell someone you're a superhero fan. They place the niche straight into the center of modern day culture and literature.

As long as they produce movies of this maturity, care and detail we can be assured that comics (and superheroes), are well and truly an adult and worthwhile piece of modern literature.
And not just something we can openly talk, without appearing geekish, about in the comic shops.

They used to make superhero movies in a campish, slapstick way, thinking the audience will only respond to them if they are given as light entertainment with little basis in reality.

Movies such as The Dark Knight returns and this (though very different in mood but not in detail and care) show that those days are gone.
  18. Regarding solo ways to get incarnate content.,... yes.. without question. Maybe rather than aquiring shards as we do now when we solo/team normally, we should get something else that we can CONVERT to shards or threads as we so choose.

    Would that do it?

I'm wondering if the devs shouldn't make Pocket D a whole lot bigger, and make it global so that EVERY player, regardless of server meets at the same point.

That would be no small undertaking.. the chat system alone would have to be overhauled..
but it does seem to me to be a way of overcoming this issue. Because there would be liteally dozens, if not more, players wanting to take part in trials pretty much constantly.

I don't see why this changes anything for anyone in this sense. If I subscribe now and I subscribe then, the only difference will be the new players that will increase population per server. (and i'll get goodies.) I don't see any reason to assume the new players will be riff raff and If anyone does hold that view then that is what the VIP server is for....

But that in itself does bring about my single concern.

I, like many people, happen to like my server. If too many subsribers migrate to the VIP server then that will leave the 50s that stay struggling for leagues with the Incarnate content.
It would certainly decrease the frequency these leagues are available.
Which means, we too would be "forced" (if we want to play content that requires high level and high numbered teams) to migrate to a higher populated server.
And that would be an issue.

Kind of like being forced to leave your home town and friends in order to find work.
now that, I must say, would be a shame for a game that has really thrived because of its server communities.

I agree with your last line though. I think Superman is the hero you want saving you when it all hits the fan. He should be the most powerful, most capable of them all.
Absolutely. Hearing that the Martian Manhunter, wonder woman and god knows who else is as strong as superman winds me up a bit because Superman is supposed to be the most powerful hero. It's in the name.
If you take that away from him he loses something. And I think it's that something that he HAS lost. By putting him on a world where everyone is as strong as him (new krypton), by stating that so many other heroes are nearly or as (or more) powerful as he is he has lost that something that gave him his gravitas.

The irony is that I consider Supermans golden era to be the Byrne period, when he was portrayed at his weakest. But somehow, the edge that Byrne gave Superman and the stories he put out kept Superman on the top of the league.
Just shows you what a difference someone who understands the character and knows what they are doing can make.
  22. I'm hoping this means they undo the last 5 years or so of Superwimp and bring back Superman.

I rue what they have done with him since they disavowed the John Byrne version . (even though Byrne weakened him a bit too much imho.)

Whenever you hear a writer interviewed about what they think about Superman they talk about his values etc etc snore snore.

To me, the whole key to Superman is that he is THE greatest and most powerful superhero of them all. (barring the cosmic types like the Spectre.)

There's no real way round that one. I don't agree with Johnny that because some NCPs can conjure up weapons that don't fit theme, we should be able to pick up and throw rocks when we are in mid air.
But he has an undeniable point. These factors do, to one extent or another, gimp the set and should be addressed.

For example, can't we use the handclap animation while in the air while dishing out the same AOE damage in place odf a footstomp effect?

Hurl is a trickier beast but I do think that in the interest of parity and fairness it should be looked at.
