Anyone seen this? New expansion?

...and about the only thing they are going to bother with is a new product.

Not entirely true, retailers stock what people want to buy generally that is new products, but see the amount of shelf space still taken up by WoW. Admittedly there is a newish WoW battle chest on offer. (The equivalent of Good vs Evil.)
Trial Disks won't go on the shelf for 2 reasons. 1)Trials never sell well, especially as you can get the same product for free online, thus the actual customers asking for it will be limited. 2)There is no guarantee that said customer will actually come back, most will purchase online, and I'm betting there is no incentive for retailers to sell the disks, if they got an extra 10% per online registration, similar to an affiliates package (which EVE does do) they might at least grant some space even if its like a box on the counter.
IMO CoX does need a new expansion, release... whatever. Perhaps a 2nd collectors edition, which would be DVDs with all updates to date, CoH/CoV updated manual, some artwork books (the CoV artwork book was very nice) and either some collectors costume parts or some of those stupid heroclix things. Pitch it at the £20 mark and have it come with a months play time and a buddy code. Sorted.
I'd buy it just to have the updates.
Are they saying when you change alignment you continue with your existing AT so we can end up with Hero Stalkers and Villian defenders? That might sound good on one level but it removes one of the very few distinctions between the two classes and as so much of the villian missioning experience is IDENTICAL to the hero's identity and immersion will go out the window.. Stalkers and Brutes are a typipcal Villian class whereas Defenders are really Heroic in their philanthropic support, wouldn't like to see those cross over tbh.

Well.. as there are many anti-heroes (and villains) in comics I don't see why not.
The Hulk is a brute AT
Kitty Pryde of the X-Men could be considered a stalker... or Batman... Although both are good scrappers too
Same counts for villains...
I am sure there are villain tankers in comics for instance.
- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!
If done right I am ok with the moral system as posted here... Would be cool to keep my totally dark villains real villains and some other shady at least.
hehe

It never ceases to amaze me how the human mind works. What we have here is a marketing survey with a range of hypothetical game features each described in just a (relative) handful of words. How anyone can argue so vehemently on a positive or negative viewpoint of the impact of any of these hypothetical features on the game, at this stage, boggles my mind.
It's a survey. The point is to gather information based on what is asked in the survey. Not what the survey taker assumes/fears/hopes might happen (either positive or negative). Having said that, though, the discussion here has been interesting to read during my days off .

True but got to say if there is even the slighest chance of content like this being added, I'd much prefer people jump around discussing it, at least then the devs know we are enthused by it. If everyone just turned round and ignored it the chances of it being added are far slimmer. IMO.

Oh, I fully agree - the discussion in this thread has been great to read, and very informative. I just wanted to inject a small reality-check in an attempt to avoid anyone setting hard opinions before they have any concrete information.

I think sending out batches of trial discs to retailers would help...

Getting them inside magazines would probably help more - and not just PC gaming mags either, but try and get some of the more mainstream mags to carry a disc. Heck, maybe NC could offer Empire or Total Film some demo discs for the next time they do a big superhero article - "you've seen superheroes on the big screen, now BE one!"
It can't be that difficult to get magazines to include something extra, considering all the spammy junk leaflets that fall out of pretty much any mag you buy nowadays.
Advertising the CoH/V trial more on the net would help too.
On each occasion I have sat through (at my local cinema) Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and The Dark Knight and the cinema has been packed with similar superhero fans - And what were we staring at whilst waiting for the trailers to come on? - whats that I hear you cry?, An slideshow photo advert for City of Heroes/Villains?......
No!. - It was an advert for my local curry house and several for other local businesses like kitchen refitters and other small private businesses.
NCsoft are still not even targeting audiences correctly in my opinion.
I'll be going to see HellBoy II:The Golden Army in seven days time where I will grind my teeth at the sight of several hundred superhero fans watching curry house adverts and picking up little fliers in the foyer for nightclubs and drinks promotions when they could alternatively be watching a City of Heroes Ad and picking up a free trial disc in the foyer after watching yet another SuperHero genre film this summer.

My real concern is that 'what it means to be a hero' or more particularly 'what it means to be a villain', something I believe is already 'undernourished' in definition or distinction will pretty much dissapear altogther..... I like the idea of the expanded versatility and diversity but fear the character of the game (something far more delicate) will suffer.
While I agree Hulk is a typical brute such hero characters are a significant minority. Some AT's are open to both sides without compromising the theme but for me Brutes, Stalkers and Defenders add much needed stylistic defninition to their side by their existence and allowing them to cross to the opposite 'team' would adversely affect what that side supposedly represents
Hmmm... my original conception for War Crow (Kat/Reg Scrapper) was far more along the line of a Stalker. Stealth in, rescue the hostage or surgically take out the lead villain. Very much in the Batman school of villain stopping. There's nothing to stop a Stalker being a hero.

Sneaking is underhanded and therefore evil!
I'd love to see Going Rogue finally implemented. And I like the idea of "Exempler Heroes / Villains" as a counterfoil to going rogue.
Problem is, if they're still at the Questionaire and Polling stage its going to be years before it actually appears!

You'd do well in Orwell's dystopia... doublethink for the win!
NCNC don't really have a track record yet, this will make or break it so they need to get it right. You're right that we don't really know what's coming, that's pretty much what GhostRaptor was saying. OTOH, we can make (un)educated guesses and then gripe about them as if they were facts like usual and from this it should be possible for NCNC to see what concerns players (fairly loyal, passionate players) have regarding those potential future paths. Yes, we should not cry DOOM until we have real, solid details, but this is 'da intarwebz' and that's how people express themselves. By now, I'd hope that companies have got the hang of trying to pick the legitimate concerns from the dross. If I were NCNC, I'd be picking over threads like this fairly carefully, along with the survey results, to figure out whether to implement specific features and in what way. (Sadly, I'm not NCNC, if I was, I'd have an income. )

Heh, not doublespeak and as Kerensky pointed out, the core of the Dev team has been solid for as long as I've been on board, Positron and War Witch being two names to come to mind. So from that point of view they do have track record, but under the new aegis of NCNC there is a clearly a far friendlier attitude from the company towards the fans. We've just not had a chance to look at much they've produced under the new regime. I12 did give us a lot of what the fans wanted including power-proliferation and new character slots (something that many people have begged for for a long time.) Overall, not a bad start and I'll be interested in what's coming for Issues 13-15
Thelonious Monk
heh, looks a bit like a list of things they are also planning on adding in CO, might save COX from it's undergoing.
