Official Going Rogue Discussion
Alternatively If there is an evil alt Statesman there almost invariably will be a good alt Lord Recluse who would be glad to give good ex-villains the same Patron powers as his prime main world counterpart. (Mirrored from my post at http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...71#post2393771) |

This would be true, save for the fact that Marcus Cole killed Stephan Richter at the well of the furies on Praetorian Earth, I believe.

Of course, there was the "He's dead . . . or is he?" thing.
Also, in reference to the color debate, you'll note that Tyrant's updated look (Circa Going Rogue Trailer) incorporates what appears to a blueish-gray, silver, gold, and a little of deep red or possibly brown.
Going on reasoning, I'm inclined to agree with GG, however I believe that Going Rogue is already geared towards the usage of Gray. Therefore, in the event we do get new loading screens, I surmise that gray will represent the Praetorians, regardless of their morality.
We'll just have to wait and see.

They'll make your life an earthly paradise if you do as they say
They'll kill you if you don't
sounds like that would balance out to "neutral"
There is no such thing as an "innocent bystander"
I think he is a genuine monarch - all royal families had to start somewhere
"Emperor"/"King" is just a fancy title for a dictator - Recluse could call himself King of the Rogue Isles if he liked - it still wouldn't change the way he ruled. Also, Nemesis even made himself Emperor of the Americas once - and in the dimension whre we meet Nemesis Rex, he actually became king of the whole world |

Anyone heard much on how intense the graphics for Ultra mode are going to be? I mean, are we talking doable with a 9800 GT or absolutely have to have the top of the line to even consider it?

What would they call the tutorial? We already have Breakout and Outbreak. Outout? Breakbreak? Boutoreak?

But seriously, I do see them having a starting zone, no real idea what hey would call it. My guess is you start of neutral it will introduce you to good and evil missions. Then when you get to the end of it you get to chose your first contact and one will be good, one will be easy. Just my guess.
No one has brought it up in a few pages but I want to put my two cents in on the SG thing. We need to keep in mind that the game takes place in the universe of comic book super heroes. So there for it seems likely to me that they would allowed villains and hero to be in the same group. There have been groups in the comics that have contained both heroes and villains. DC teams them up with each other all the time. Then you get some characters that you are never sure what side they are on but there old team mates still consider them part of the team. So I see a boot for switching sides unlikely.
At a guess, the easiest way to handle SGs would be to have it work the same way they're handling the markets - if you can use the market in an area, you can join a local SG. So, Super Groups would be Hero/Vigilante, and Villain Groups would be Villains/Rogues. There might be a way to allow Vigilantes/Rogues to join either a VG or SG, but that would be tricky. I'm more concerned with how they'll handle teleporters, especially if there's some way to tag a SG as "neutral friendly." Trying to be a Rogue and do missions in Paragon without access to a teleporter network would be a *huge* pain, especially solo. Of course if they do allow access to both sides, they *really* need to introduce advanced versions of the Teleporters. At least a "standard" model that can connect to four zones at once.
I'm also curious if they'll allow any access at all to Praetoria if you don't start there.

Does anyone know if there will be a global rename allowed with Going Rogue?
I really, really, really...REALLY would like to change my lame global handle.

I wish they improve/upgrade the character graphics, maybe a revamp, adding textures to the bodies and faces, fingers, face gesticulation.
Pretty much like the characters in Champions Online, but with the CoX style.
Characters looks plain and old... They need a revamp same ways as maps are getting Ultra-mode.
I would love to see this as part of GR or I17, and then we can have characters to look similar to Mirror Spirit or Foreshadow.
They look so freaking cool, if you compare them with the actual characters we can make. Not talking only about costume pieces, but the body and face of the character.
They need an upgrade badly. Take CoX to 2010
Hopefully, we can get one of the Devs to answer me this: What is the minimum level that I can enter Praetoria to "go Rogue?"
to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!
well the beta should be opening up soon ,which will be a good thing /bad thing, lots of less guessing, but under a NDA,like working in a candy shop and cant eat suger, while what i have seen and read on GR is great for CURRENT players, I dont see a good hook to bring in NEW players.
i hope they get some money to advertise a bit, I think a smart trailer for the game, shown in theaters during either the movie kick-*** or Iron Man 2 might help a lot,or even a tv spot during say heroes might help. they could make the greatest game in the world ,but if no body hears about it ,to borrow from one movie"If they hear about it,they will come"

So what are the chances we might see some ambiguous missions?
Like, say you've got some guy you're supposed to rescue. You can rescue him for the heroes so his information doesn't fall into the wrong hands, or you can choose to attack him and take the information yourself. Your future missions branch off from there, which would be easy with the fairly randomized missions they can generate, and you can continue trying to save some technology or secret and protect stuff, or you can go and take whatever it is for yourself and benefit from it.
I think that leveling would be alot cooler with something like this implemmented. Imagine the Praetorian missions allow you to somewhat choose your alighment by your actions. Say you've got the stereotypical "confiscate the weapons" mission. Well, you can do your work for the heroes and get bonuses in XP and Influence/Infamy at the end, but you can also just loot the gun racks and have a chance to get a decent recipe drop, and a random large inspiration. You give players a choice for both alighment and rewards, and at the same time you can have the following missions develop depending on whether they're steering villain or hero with their actions. At a certain point, a contact opens up and you can take a pure hero or pure villain arc to solidify your alighment one way or another, but you can also just edge yourself one way or another into rogue territory. You can even go straight for a mixed alignment as you steal part of the loot in a level and return the rest, and have that reflected in your missions (Well, thanks for bringing us their cached weapons, we really thougtht there would be more, did you need to kill everyone in the base over seven guns?) and get the appropriate amounts of hero or villain rep for your actions.
It would also work well with a debt system for switching sides. If you've got multiple paths for mission completion, you could make it so that you've got side trading debt. Imagine that you've got to earn back a factions trust after you've left them, so you have to start doing little things during your normal missions to work off the debt before you can switch sides. You go on a mayhem mission and you get a "vandals" pop up and a "set the building on fire" pop up. You still have to rob the bank, but you can stop the vandals to show solidarity with the heroes, and work off a little of their mistrust towards you. Once all the debt value is worn off, you can start taking active hero missions to switch sides. It would prevent people from doing something like switching five times a day to play both sides of the markets.
I think something like this would make people feel alot more involved in their choices, it would be cool to drop forks in the road regularly in missions, and you could have some actual impact from your choices without turning the game into a grind fest or anything.

I am sure LOADS of people are going crazy with anxiety. I am wondering if there is a target date for the pre-order? sometime this winter...spring...this year? Any kind of estimate from an official would be nice. I'll need to plan my extremely tight budget accordingly, thanks.
