You just drop a Darkest Night, lock down with Tenebrous Tentacles, and alternate Tentacles with Night Fall while you wait for everything to die.
Fire dark is far better, things die much quicker, which is mitigation in and of itself.

Also, Bots/Traps. There is nothing in the game that can put out the AoE damage that a bots/traps can that can also survive and win in as many situations as a bots/traps can. A bots/traps can take on any single enemy in the game and win with a build that costs less than 100 million. It can farm almost any mob type in the game with impunity at +1 or +2 x8. No other build in the game can say the same.

Plus, there is nothing in CoX that offers similar satisfaction to trip mines. I have enough recharge to lay down 12 of them, and they do generally between 350 and 500 damage in a fairly wide AoE. Leading an AV through them is a thing of beauty.

    Aoe farm build?

Elec/SD is the best overall AoE farmer. Fire/SD is a superior overall build, but you kind of get to make a choice between going fire/SD the AV killer build, and fire/SD the farming build. Essentially its choosing between Cremate, aid self and grant cover over hasten and the fire ancillary. Elec is Elec, there is a best general build that does everything well, and it just happens to be the best at farming AoE.

But fire/SD is ten times more fun to play.
  4. Knock out blow sets hasten to auto. Rage sets active defense to auto. Rage recharges in like 80 seconds and AD recharges a few seconds quicker than that.

Generally I hit rage (thumb button, like many of you), wait about three seconds, continue attack chain. Everything stays up all the time except hasten which is somewhere around 10 seconds short of perma.
  5. I'm having alot of trouble with these two. I've not tried elec, spines, or DM past about 10 and I really kind of like the synergies here.

I'm leaning alot towards DM/Elec, I think its likely that I'll end up doing both and do DM first, but I'd like to know a bit more about elec before I go roll one, get some opinions. Also, APPs. I think that DM/Elec would probably be a good set to get some AoE help with, suggestions would be great as I don't have a scrapper high enough to be dabbling those pools yet.

What should I build for there? I imagine I should probably go for defense bonuses when I IO, but I don't know what the best power picks are so I can't work anything up yet. I need an idea of what my bread and butters will be.

    FM/SD or FM/SR?

I have a fire/SD, and it is by far my favorite toon. They look awesome, they absolutely destroy single target anything, and build up, AAO and Shield charge together are marvelous. There are few things more fun in this game than by announcing your presence to mobs with a shield charge, it never gets boring.

Honestly, I like more reserved sets like claws for /sr. They just seem to fit together better, claws is more like an understated blender, I want something that feels destructive to go with my four and a half foot tall sword of blue fire.

Performance wise, if you've got the money to invest, SD is just a fun defensive set. Claws is almost as boring as willpower, you'll panic every few missions when you realize you zoned out and forgot to hit aid self for five minutes and are under 10% health.
  7. Do you get anything for soloing pylons?

Are they all 3 bots traps and the proc is in caltrops?

I didn't say the proc sucked. But it has to be in the right power. For instance, that same proc in thugs enforcers has a theoretical 90% uptime on a single target because each enforcer has 6 attacks that debuff defense. Its frequent in a claws brute, as strike is a key part of your single target chain and you'll use it even in AoE situations on bosses to make them easier to hit.

Caltrops, however, is a bad choice. Its a static location AoE with a fear component and a 10 second tick for procs. That means that on average it will go off once every 50 seconds, and be up for 5 seconds on whatever is within its 30 foot radius.

Compare that to acid mortar, which fires every few seconds for 60 seconds, every firing an 8foot targeted AoE that has a chance to fire the proc. One is useful, the other is largely not.

On something like an EB or AV or purple mob, they'll resist the resistance debuff and it won't last as long, giving you little to no discernible benefit (i mean, up two seconds every fifty? not worth it) and a damage proc by comparision would add a finite guaranteed bit of damage every so often.

In other powers, you're right. In caltrops, you're wrong.

Its actually alot harder to solo up to 20 than it is to solo past 20, that might seem relatively normal, but the difference in what I can do with a character with a full attack chain and what I can do with a level 6 is staggering. I generally farm most of my characters up to twenty with SG mates. I could do it solo, but honestly before 20 its faster to have someone do a farm map for you than to try to do it yourself. The lack of a full and slotted attack chain really hurts at low levels. Getting from 15 to 20 takes almost as much time as getting from 45 to 50 no matter what you do if its all solo on a character without high damage.

My methods aren't normal, you can assume its AE related. I've got about forty local ae arcs at the moment. Every set does something well, some of my arcs are sets designed to maximize AoE damage, some designed to let a single target demon shine, its all about the best fit in any given situation. Take a lowbie fire/kin. Low AoE damage means that you need a ton of enemies and you need to be very safe from them so you can sit there with cages and hotfeet and melt them to death. A scrapper on the other hand needs fewer higher value targets and the ability to kill them quickly, while safety is alot less of a concern.

The AE gives you a ridiculous number of tools for tweaking these circumstances. Everything I do falls under "working as intended", but there's a line they've had to draw between making AE something fun with alot of options for people to make stories and cutting out every possible avenue towards powergaming.

I am intimately familiar with that line.

First, my build has dropped one of the dmg procs in caltrops to fit in the Ragnarok chance for Knockdown. I'm really pleased with how it works...anything that isn't immob'd is knocked on its ***.

What I'm thinking of doing is dropping another one of the dmg procs to fit in the pvp chance for -res IO. That would be an AoE -60% resistance if caltrops and acid mortar both proc. That's pretty huge when burn patches come into play....

Has anyone been able to afford one of these and give it a try? I might have one on test, but I'll have to check.
You'll get much more consistent performance out of a damage proc.

All the resistance procs are short as hell. Acid mortar works because as I understand it everyone hit by every aoe grenade has a chance at getting hit by procs, and mortar itself is autohit. With something like caltrops, its a static 20% chance to fire every 10 seconds. You literally will not notice the difference.

A damage proc, on the other hand, will work well on everything. Drop caltrops under an AV, and instead of a highly resisted debuff thats there and gone in a second its a visible damage hit. The resistance proc will be wasted on anything not being attacked or not in a burn patch, damage is damage.

    3. The rate that endurance can be generated caps how fast you can level solo

    2. Is certainly wrong.

    1. Most likely wrong but it assumes that an endless stream of bosses can be survived indefinitely another popping up as fast as the last one is killed and never doing more damage than can be absorbed at all levels.

    3. goes out the window. Especially seeing that endurance for particular AT powerset combinations can be generated faster than it can be consumed. Even those that cant , can just buy blues and use what drops.

    http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/6456/screen2e.png

8.9 bubbles at 31 in 17 minutes. That included loading into and out of a mission twice (I have a new computer thats quite nice, so the load times are short, under 20 seconds).

My fire scrapper at the same level could have done it in about 13 min. This was a SS/SD brute, so factor in the fact that I had low fury sometimes from whiffing, rage crashes without enough recharge to double stack, and facing a mob that has high S/L resists and little fire resist.

No intentions of sharing my method (hence the lack of seeing anything but landscape and my xp bar and clock) but I do promise that it was done solo.
  12. I got my claws/sr brute from 30 to 50 in about 6 hours and my fire/shield scrapper from 20 to 50 in about 8 all over the last week.
  13. I can't figure this out.

I've quit and restarted after making all the changes I wanted, the errors display tells me that there are no errors. I am trying to make a map using Unique maps -> Outdoor maps -> city map 02. Its part of the unlockable outdoor map content.

When I switch to any other map big enough that there are no errors, it publishes just fine. When I put it on citymap 02 the publish button greys out and so does the test button, as if I cannot access that map. I don't get it.

    help would be appreciated.
  14. A /kin corruptor. GR is a ways away, so you want something that can reliably team with him now. With a brute to take the aggro (a granite especially) you'll likely find yourself putting him on follow with taunt on auto and playing the kin. I highly suggest cold or dark for primaries, as they both offer some very respectable mitigation.

3.The Touch of the Nictus Enhans like the Heal/HP/Regen/Rech one (and other like that), can someone tell me more about why it has that HP/Regen in most of them.
    1) inspexec_pet_name (pet name) (inspiration) is one and inspexec_pet_target (inspiration) is another. I bound mine as the following

    /bind 1 "inspexec_pet_target righteous rage$$inspexec_pet_target focused rage$$inspexec_pet_target enrage"

Hit one to drop reds onto the targeted pet in order of smalls to larges.

    2) Any pet enhancements should always execute on attacks. For enforcers, you should generally go two defense 4 frankenslots, if you want to drop a frankenslot drop in an achilles heel, with the amount of defense debuffing attacks enforcers have its up more than its not on a single target. Resistance debuff up most of the time is way better than a build up proc that will fire once a minute if you're lucky.

    3) If you're looking at mids, I think it might just be an error. Heal enhancement ups hitpoints, regen, healing, etc, so the actual enhancements are functionally the same.

    Group Fly

All around terrible. Goto commands are difficult because the cursor hits the first object within range or stays at furthest range, any pets that want to be in melee will be all over the place, the speed is pretty slow, and -fly will absolutely ruin your day.
  17. Mace. Your thugs don't knock back, so you can work the longer range, wider radius immobilization. The defense shield will help you tankermind (something dark does pretty well) and web envelope with a good bit of recharge will let you hold most stuff in place, even AVs if you can get and keep it triple stacked.
  18. The builds I've tried are

Claws/SR - Very active combination, claws has all the attacks you need but you can drop some of them for patrons if you want to diversify your damage. If you take aid self you're pretty close to immortal vs everything, if you fit taunt in you can tank most ****, especially with a pain or emp along.

SS/SD - Late bloomer, with its AoEs coming in the early to mid 30s. Heavy endurance use means that pre-stamina is going to involve alot of resting, I got farmed to 22 and I kinda reccomend you do the same. It gets alot better when the AoEs come in, footstomp is some respectable mitigation and great damage. The build doesn't really mature until you get some purples in it though. Its respectable without them, but fully build its an absolute monster.

Another vote for DM/ELA. The heal from DM works really, really well with resist sets, and ELA is ten times better than fire. I have this as a scrapper, and with the IO potential and adding in fighting you can get its alot of fun.

Really the point that is trying to be made is that Elite Bosses aren't the toughest version of the respective NPC's. You can sub out BAB for any named NPC that has purple triangles floating around them. The end result is the same. Their EB version isn't the same fight as the full blown thing you'll find in a max difficulty setting. They can, and do become much, much, harder fights. Some that had hits that knocked your health below half will flat out kill you in one shot.
No ****. I soloed Sirocco AV level on my bots/traps. Took two retreats to resummon and let the bots buff up and one death to do it, ******* tornadoes.

Though back alley brawler is a pushover. No primarily melee AV stands up to my web grenade! I think I got hit like four times with bodyguard that whole fight when he'd hurl **** at me. Most boring AV fight ever.

Numina, on the other hand, is an absolute nightmare.
  20. There isn't really a way to softcap a Fire/Kin/PM to anything. You'd have to do it pretty much entirely by set bonuses, which might be possible if you gimp your slotting for everything in order to provide it. Maybe.

Rikti are hard for anything vunerable to mez, and with a fire/kin there just isn't anything you can do to combat both heavy mez and damage at the same time. Plus, Rikti are laregly energy damage, which means you've got to get that defense up or go positional, which you can't really softcap with any fire/kin on your own.

I'd suggest building something else for them. I love my bots/traps, I farm rikti constantly on him, as the bots keep going and going even when I'm asleep.

Dude, my bots/traps just finished this, he doesn't have fulcrum shift, and he took 3 minutes longer than you (with a complete resummon thrown in). And unlike your fire/kin I can aggro pretty much that entire room between me and my bots, not ceiling out at the 17 man aggro cap.

You created a smashing/lethal farm. Congrats. You do realize that the only significant point is that you put in mobs with defense debuffs (from the claw guys I imagine), and yourself slotted for enough s/l defense that you were still softcapped. Thats it. That means making a fire/kin/earth for earth's shield power.

So wow. You created a farm where I saw ninja stars going everywhere (a fire kin built farm with ranged attacks? really?) thats too short for practical farming. You're on a toon that's pretty much impossible to **** up even without IOs, as you can cap your damage and softcap yourself against their attacks. From what I saw in there, any fire/kin with 50% s/l defense could run that, and as long as they keep endurance and don't miss with fulcrum shift can do it as fast as you can if not faster. All you have to be able to do is survive being at the aggro cap, which is pretty damn easy to do with a fire/kin/stone.

No, but to me the best part of all this is the AV level sonic ally. I really should have checked the resists from that, but given that you had defensive help on that map, I'd like to see that compared with a SS/SD brute, or a fire/SD scrapper with a kin helper. Hell, my claws/SR brute with a kin would absolutely destroy that map, as I've got like 54% to all positions and 90 something defense debuff resistance. Being able to hit max targets on all my AoEs every time? I'd shred the hell out of that ****.

You built a build to solo a crappy map, you could have had a very different build that could do that map plus more for the money you spent on the build(s) you posted. You created a meat grinder meant to punish anyone who wasn't cushioned over softcap to S/L, and claim to be a God of farming. You pirated other peoples ideas and came up with a dumb overslotted build that does average for fire/kins and then posted a video of said mediocrity.

This thread has been saddening from start to finish. Enjoy your crappy build, but know that there's not a single person dumb enough to think that designing a build to have 20 points over the softcap so you can survive defense debuffing hard hitting single target mobs (with a hefty AV level resist bubble helping) makes you in any way the king of farming. From what I've seen, you'd be raking in about 10 million an hour farming that map. My bots/traps can beat that on +0x8 RWZ repeatables. My claws/SR can beat that facing pretty much any mobset in the game on mayhem missions.

You seem to have lost the concept that farming is for money, not for bragging rights over who can defeat a room full of mobs designed to punish anyone without a specific build. Seriously, I could take that map and drop something that doesn't debuff defense into the primaries of those mobs and ANY fire/kin could do it.

The same way, I could create a huge map chock full of rikti which would destroy your fire kin, and that my bots/traps could walk through faster than you did the map you videoed. Or I could use Circle of Thorns which don't resist lethal for my claws/SR, which would also pretty much shred your fire/kin build, with its crappy positionals and nonexistent exotic defenses.

With force field, the only real way to kill things faster is to use your bubbles to push stuff into a corner. Stuff in a corner dies quickly in AoE patches.

I think you can slot them for leaping so they can jump up on walkways and tall crates and not get stuck as often.

Fire imps are a pretty respectable portion of your damage once slotted. I recommend blood mandate, you could go expedient reinforcement though, You don't need the recharge, and defense is better than resistance but you don't want to slot the level 30 call to arms, blood mandate gives the best defensive bonus to you.

They do alot more damage fulcrum shifted, I believe pets have the same damage cap as a controller - 400%. A single Fulcrum shift essentially doubles their damage, going from 195% damage slotted to 395% damage. Its a beautiful thing.
