Official Going Rogue Discussion
Also, please note that beta testing is where they find and fix bugs. It's not all fun and games, and it is certainly not a finished product. You will experience lag, crashing, glitches, unfinished or broken textures/models, etc. It certainly gives you a chance to see all the new shinies before the general population, but you'd be surprised at how under-polished they are at the start.

When I got into City of Villains beta I recived the invite via e-mail without ever seeing any kind of announcement till AFTER I got my e-mail. Now I got the announcement first and 2 months later still hasn't started yet.
Pluse it's not really a matter of waiting for an e-mail anymore sence the old e-mail linked to this account has some major issues. Excite will randomly not send or recive e-mails not even to the spam folder so I've stopped useing it. In sort even if I am invited the e-mail may never come.
I preddy much just log on once every other week to see if demons are avalible.
I was in the closed Beta for City of Villains. I allready know how it works. My gripe is just that they seemed to have announced it was allready for testing 2 months ago.

Trust me, I'm as rabid as anyone else to get some cyber-fangs into any new intel, data or examples they give us. But I also know that Awesome takes time to manufacture. And the length of time taken is directly proportional to the level of awesome.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

o Tier One: City of Heroes Veterans with 60+ months of paid time.
o Tier Two: Loyalty Program players
o Tier Three: Players who Pre-Order Going Rogue (Preorder details to be announced at a later date)
The friends and family phaise doesn't even really count as part of the Beta because no one from the community is in that.
The theater I work for has simular events for viewing plays before we're offically open. There's a friends and family which is literally just staff members and whoever they happen to invite. Just as the name sugests everyone who isn't on the staff is a close personal friend or family member.
Then there's a preview night which is what Beta is, when people from the general public are let in early. For the theater that means our sponsors buy out the house and resell or give away the tickets. We never really know who's going to be at previews and the difference there is we can't resell or give away our metaphorical tickets once we have them.
Anyway...
As for the Hero Con attendees. I think they should be let in before 5 year vets. I wasn't at Hero Con but I know it cost alot of money to go there and conventions like that have to have exclusives like that to make it worth the cost of going to the convention in the first place.
The Vetarans are fine where they're at and I am in that group.
As for the loyalty program group, that should be changed. As it stands the loyalty program is this... All City of Heroes® and City of Villains® players who maintain an active account for the time period beginning August 15, 2009 and ending November 15, 2009 will receive a set of special rewards for their loyalty to Paragon City and The Rogue Isles which to me means that the Loyalty program group should of been let in on November 15, 2009, the day the program ended as it reads that's when they would be let in. The 60 month+ Veterans should of been let in August 15, 2009. Sence no one is in yet my reasoning is that Beta is late and these dates are no longer valid.
Let me put it this way. For the loyalty program you only had to remain active from August 15 to November 15, 2009. So what? You could cancill your account on November 16, 2009 and wait to get your invite and still be eligable despite not playing for however long that takes. And I don't see how that qualifys as a "loyalty" program if you only need to be loyal for 1 month. That date should be changed so your account needs to remain active from August 15th to whenever the heck Beta actully starts in order to get into Beta. Now that's what I call Loyalty, sticking with the game the entire time till Beta starts not just for 1 month and then quitting till beta starts.

Your reasoning skills are flawed in this instance.
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
How can the Beta be late when they never announced a start date? The only thing they said is if you're paid up between a couple of dates, you are considered a loyal customer and get let into Beta, after the F&F, the long-time vets, and the Con attendees. Nowhere in their initial announcement, nor anywhere else talking about this period, does it say that Beta will start the day after for anyone. They have to put an end date on it because there was also a badge involved and the badge on your account is what actual gets you in. It had to be rewarded sometime before Beta starts.
Your reasoning skills are flawed in this instance. |
The announcement implys that beta for the loyaly program participants starts on November 15, at the end of the loyalty program which allso implys that beta has allready started for people who are supose to be in before them.
I never said anything about a direct statement about when beta was starting only that an announcment as it's worded implys when beta is starting. There's nothing in there saying beta isn't starting at the end of that period either. Something as simple as "Beta date to be announced later" could of cleared up any missconceptions but sence they left it open to interpretation about when beta was that's how I read it.
Even still I don't think 1 month of playing should qualify as being "loyal", like I allready said anyone can get in so long as they paid the $15 for that 1 month of the game and don't ever have to play any time before or after.
As for the badge, I didn't say anything about it shouldn't have an end date, I said the end date should be exstended to when thoughs people can actully get into beta. It doesn't need to be rewarded before they can get in, it needs to be rewarded when they can get in.
Basically I don't see the point in even having the loyalty program if A: It's that easy to get a reward that big and B: The reward isn't even granted when you earn it and there's no warning saying you'd have to wait for your reward.
Look at it this way if I told you to pay me $15 at the end of the month and I'll take you to Disney Land wouldn't you exspect me to take you the same day you paid me for it? And what would you did if you gave me the $15 and then after takeing your money I told you that you had to wait for some unspecified date over 3 months later. Wouldn't you rather keep your $15 untill I'm actully going to take you to Disney Land?
And why should you pay so little for a trip to Disney Land anyway? That cost me more money than I'm makeing. Reverse rolls now you're asking me for money for Disney Land. Insted of $15 at the end of the month wouldn't you rather ask for $15 a month untill you can make a profit out of takeing me to Disney Land?
Sure they get their beta testers either way but if someone wanted to get into Beta early and they didn't qualify for anything else all they had to do was start an account on August 15 and only pay for that month (Till November 15) and then they're in. That basically includes all the 60+ month veterans as well and we don't even need the stupid badge. Heck by the time all the loyalty program participants are let in no one will be left for the Going Rouge Preorders except people who have never played the game before.
The way it is, and the way City of Villains was done, the order should really be Veterans, preorders, and then everyone else sence the way I see it the loyalty program people are everyone else. I don't see how there's anything special about just haveing an account for 1 month that should allow you into beta before Preorders.
To put this as simply as I can the loyalty program offers a reward for absolutly nothing. There's alot of rewards like that in the game but if you think about it the rewards for doing nothing are minor compaired to this one. This is a major reward for such a minor accomplishment.
What exactly about the time from August 15 to November 15 was any different from any other month? Why should that one month of people be rewarded more than any other month. Maybe if it was from November to December and a "Christmas" Reward that would be more understandable. But this is just some randomly chosen month and a "loyalty" reward where loyalty doesn't have anything to do with it.
Veteran rewards are given for loyalty and the 60+ month are in a seperate group so the loyalty program should be 3+ months or maybe someone who earned a new veteran badge durring that month not just for playing durring that month. There's nothing more loyal about that month than any other.
Nothing about it makes any bloody sence. Everything else is fine, just the "loyalty" program of people getting rewarded for no reason and/or not get rewarded when the program ended just seems completly pointless.
Your reasoning skills are flawed and so are your comprehention skills.

We've been told that beta will actually start in "early 2010," which it still is for another couple months. Or even longer if you have a variable definition of "early" like many companies do. The planned (not guaranteed, mind you) release for GR is Q2 2010. Which is April-June. Meaning beta should occur sometime between January and May.
I notice you have no rep, so I'll give you a +rep freebie. Use it wisely though.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

At the end of last year, BAB mentioned that his version of the start up now had the Praetorian option as well as the Hero and Villain ones for making a new avatar - although that doesn't mean any of the actual content is ready yet.

Stupid question when is Q1 release in terms for games? March, April?
August -> September -> October -> November. Three months between August 15th and November 15th.
|
2. When correcting someone you really should make sure you're not allso wrong. September and October is only two months. There's three months FROM August TO November not three months BETWEEN August AND November.

Q stands for "Quarter," or ¼ of a year.
Main Hero: Chad Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1396 Badges
Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges
Mission Architect arcs: Doctor Brainstorm's An Experiment Gone Awry, Arc ID 2093

Q1 is January-March, Q2 is April-June, Q3 is July-September, Q4 is October-December.
Q stands for "Quarter," or ¼ of a year. |
In this case, that isn't the case though, so he can rest assured it is a simple 4-way breakdown into 3 month blocks.
August 15 -> September 15: 1 month
September 15 -> October 15: 1 month October 15 -> November 15: 1 month Three months between August 15 and November 15. |
"From" states the mesurement of time (mesurment of time being what you just described) not "between".
Between neither the start or end point are counted. Think of like a sandwitch... You got August(a slice of bread) September(a slice of cheese) October(more cheese) November(Bread). A sandwitch is just a bunch of ingrediants "between" 2 slices of bread but you don't count the bread as being "between" the bread.
Just thought I'd add in;
What exactly about the time from August 15 to November 15 was any different from any other month? Why should that one month of people be rewarded more than any other month.

Regardless, I for one am dead excited about beta. I've got some character slots reserved for my characters' praetorian counterparts so I know I'll have space for them, and I'm nowhere near as active as I was a while ago. Anticipation.
Think of it this way - in an Open Beta, your job is to run around and try to break things. In a Closed Beta, your job is to go around and find what's broken. Because at the Closed Beta level, stuff *will* be broken. Which is why I find it so weird that sites like Fileplanet toss out closed beta keys like it's some kind of demo or something.
