Well considering that Castles name is for the chess move then you see the subtle evilness of Checkmate. Now with my character
Artbiter Panzer====Judge Tank (Crab Spider Longfang)
Gotta work on it, that sounds kinda lame.

Actually wouldn't Castle = Fortress?

[/ QUOTE ]

Castle is a reference to the chess maneuver of Castling, rather than to the architectural structure called a Castle. Hence my forum Avatar.

I was actually looking for a term synonymous with "Discovered Attack" for the Praetorian name, but settled on "Checkmate" when I couldn't find anything suitable in the 2 minutes I allowed myself to look.

EDIT: To add clarification:

The Praetorian Name thing is interesting. Let's look at some examples:

Statesman == Tyrant
Back Alley Brawler == Marauder
Positron == Anti-Matter
Mynx == Bobcat

So, in general, the Praetorian Name of a character is a reflection of their current name, but with a more...aggressive, sinister twist.

Given that:

Castle == Checkmate

Dammit, I was using Black Rook in the MA arc I've been working on.

The reason I'm angry is because I think Checkmate sounds more awesome, but it also sounds like a Mastermind name... so now I have to rethink his powers.

Opposite of Discovered Attack : Veiled Retreat
Synonymous to Discovered Attack : Perceived Assault ?

Or - Identified Aggression ?

X-Ray?

I've always heard it called an x-ray attack anyway, since it targets a piece behind another piece.

There are two moves in chess where pices move abnormally. There's castling where the King can move two steps and the Rook gets to move in the same turn.

The other one is En passant.

Also quoth Wikipedia:
[ QUOTE ]
En passant is a special capture made immediately after a player moves a pawn two squares forward from its starting position, and an opposing pawn could have captured it if it had moved only one square forward. In this situation, the opposing pawn may capture the pawn as if taking it "as it passes" through the first square. The resulting position is the same as if the pawn had only moved one square forward and the opposing pawn had captured normally. The en passant capture must be done on the very next turn, or the right to do so is lost. Such a move is the only occasion in chess in which a piece captures but does not move to the square of the captured piece.

[/ QUOTE ]

When a pawn makes a double move, an opposing pawn can capture the pawn by moving to the spot it skipped. It's not as widely known as the castling, and "Checkmate" is a more powerful name, but the opposite of a Castle is an En Passant. Because in the Castling you move your most valuable piece, in an En Pessant you use your weakest piece to deny the opponent one of his. It's sort of a backstabbing move, really. You move behind the other piece to take it out.
