Hmmm... I don't think most of mine transfer over all that well.

Memphis Bill: Chicago Sue?
Ignia Elemenia: Aquus Etherian (eh, not quite...)
Feliney Assault: Canine Defender
Violet Flame: Emerald Ash
Dreamon (dream+demon) : Lucingel (lucid+angel)
Cryo Havoc : Flame of Order
Theorum : Proof
Lady Moquerie : Lord Sérieux perhaps.

[/ QUOTE ]

I tend to like the alternates better there, Sue.

Let's see... just a few off of the top of my head:

Hammer of Tarterus: Blade of Olympus
Warped Darkness: Perfect Light
PsyWeaver: BodyUnraveler?
ArchVillainess: Super Hero
Dark Lord's Dream: Light Deciple's Reality
Corrupting Flame: Purifying Water (or Cleansing Wind)
Shocking Brutality: Common Serenity
Grinnin' Jack: Weeping Jill
Showkiller: Private Savior
Little Soviet: Large American
Blazing Bliss: Smoldering Pain
Shimmering Void: Dull Light

Celestial Harmony: Demonic Dissonance
Cold Logic: Hot Passion
Awakened Guardian: Slumbering Destroyer
Arctic Rae: Desert Glow
Lightning-Speed: Grounded Deliberateness

Some of those just don't work...

Hallowed: Vile (or Despoiled, or Unholy, or Desecrated)

Heh, not many of my characters would HAVE Praetorian counterparts, given that the flow of time would have caused them to not exist there at all. Ah well ^_^

V-Tron == Power-Tron

Most of my other Characters wouldn't have a Preatoreon name just due to the fact that their creator is busy trying to upgrade him self than build more robots.

V-Tronix - Angry Angels
V-Tron Elec/EM - V-Tron X EM/EA

I like this topic.

Hero Man == Damnation
Wraith-Blade == Blade-Heart
Blunt Bear == Broke-IN
Silent Bunny == Unseen Hand
(Hero) Tia J Locke == Tia J Locke (I can't think of a reason why she would choose to use an alias.)
(Villain) Tia Locke == Tia Locke (Second Verse.)
Darkness of the Pit == (Given that he's already from another dimension, there probably wouldn't be one.)
Demon Shell == Devil Shell
Project SIN == Project GOD
Ex-Arbiter == ISOT (In Service of Tyrant)
Refrain == Solo
Etona == Mental Anchor
That Handsome Devil = Godforbid (Which is just the leader of the group, but he would likely have never formed the smuggling organization in Praetorian Earth.)
Worm Synergist = Worm Thermalist

I could give much larger explanations for every one, but meh, how many people are even going to read this?

Ok, lets see....

Bunny Slippers >> Gator Boot (was thinking of something not cute)
Eternal Dawn >> Moment of Dusk
Dig Deep >> Shallow Surrender
Shadowdream >> Light's Nightmare

I actually have foils for Bunny and several other "Slippers" chars. Originally Bunny Slippers evil side was named Steel Slippers, though now Bunny villian version is Bloody Slippers.

How would that Praetorian thing work with people who are named things like... Names? Like me, say.

Your name would remain the same. The thing that most people don't remember is that the Praetorian names aren't the opposite of their Primal Earth version. They're simply more villainous versions of the same variety. For some individuals (re: Infernal), it remains the same because it's already sufficiently nefarious. Praetorian variants still have roughly the same powers as their Primal Earth version (slight differences but largely the same), so they're in no way simply opposites.

I've always felt that it's better to say that Praetorian Earth is a world where supers took over and let power corrupt them rather than it being the "evil opposites world".

Actually wouldn't Castle = Fortress?

[/ QUOTE ]

Castle is a reference to the chess maneuver of Castling, rather than to the architectural structure called a Castle. Hence my forum Avatar.

I was actually looking for a term synonymous with "Discovered Attack" for the Praetorian name, but settled on "Checkmate" when I couldn't find anything suitable in the 2 minutes I allowed myself to look.

EDIT: To add clarification:
[ QUOTE ]
In chess, a discovered attack is an attack revealed when one piece moves out of the way of another. Discovered attacks can be extremely powerful, as the piece moved can make a threat independently of the piece it reveals. Like many chess tactics, they succeed because the opponent is unable to meet two threats at once. While typically the consequence of a discovered attack is the gain of material, they do not have to do this to be effective; the tactic can be used merely to gain a tempo.

Actually I would of thought:

En passant

When a pawn advances two squares, if there is an opponent's pawn on an adjacent file next to its destination square, then the opponent's pawn can capture it and move to the square the pawn passed over, but only on the next move.

So while Castle is a defensive move, En Passant is an offensive one.

Got a couple saved already...

(H)Strong Box=(V)Pyx Chest
(H)Pennant=(V)Pennon
(V)Cut-Throat=(H)Lunge

I am holding (V)Opposite Number for a friend for his Praetorian version of (H)Battle Ender

(H)=Hero
(V)=Villain

It is never truly gone, as long as there is someone left to remember.

I made my evil Praetorian counterpart the week COV came out. My main COH toon is a hero of the people, for the people; thus 'Great Briton' become comes...

...'Fascist Briton', brutal superhuman enforcer of the Police State of Great Britain.

That's actually a pretty good point. I guess Miss Liberty vs. Dominatrix is sort of going the "opposites" path, but for the most part, yes. They do sound like more sinister, more power-hungry versions of themselves, rather than "evil twin brother." Very good point.

The Praetorian Name thing is interesting. Let's look at some examples:

Statesman == Tyrant
Back Alley Brawler == Marauder
Positron == Anti-Matter
Mynx == Bobcat

So, in general, the Praetorian Name of a character is a reflection of their current name, but with a more...aggressive, sinister twist.

Given that:

Castle == Checkmate

[/ QUOTE ]

Checkmate you might find trademark/copywrite problems with.

Positron is actually an anti-electron so Positron is actually anti-matter. So I am not sure how that is more aggressive/sinister.

Only have one.

Amy zon (Tanker Invuln/SS on the EU servers) = Barb Arian (Brute Axe/SR) reason for the different powers was that while Amy is invulnerable and really strong, Barb is the opposite and has to rely on a weapon and her natural agility to avoid damage.

I already made mine as a villain.

Philotic Knight (FF/Elec Defender) : Misotic Knave (Fire/Dark Corruptor)

[/ QUOTE ]

Not Terran Knight? Or are you (PK) against the Goddess in the Machine?

[/ QUOTE ]

Sorry, I don't get the reference.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sorry - As I recall, your handle is somewhat based off Ender's Game (and the following books) and Jane always seemed more a Goddess then a Ghost in the Machine (reference to unintended workings of code).

[/ QUOTE ]

Ah. Well that has nothing to do with the name switch. Philotic comes from Philos, ancient greek for the type of love between friends. Misotic comes from Misos, which is hate (like where misogynist et all come from).

Philotic is related to the Enderverse, yes, but Misotic is just the opposite and is completely made up. I've never heard the term in any of his works.

I already have a Praetorian version of my main, Shadow Kiana named . . . well, Shadow Kiana.

The original is a soul sucking Dark Magus (Dark/Dark Defender), while on Praetoria his history is different, never corrupting his soul/magic, so he's a Shaman, a Fire/Elec/Ice Blaster (he was defeated by his alternate self and shown that Primal Earth is good rather than the propaganda Tyrant tells Shadowhunter, Praetorian Shadow being a member of his wolf pack).

I did that because I already had an 'evil' version of my Hero, named Shade Kiana. He had the same history as Shadow, causing an accident that corrupt his soul and magic, but instead of turning to a loved one for support he embraced the insanity the corruption was causing and learned to enjoy the bloodlust, thus becoming a Dark/Dark Brute. (also, story-wise, Shade is from Primal Earth while Shadow is from a different dimension)

I just can't go with all these literal translations, that would turn Kid Kourage into Kid Koward, Courageous Lee into Coward Lee and his evil brother Severe Lee into what... Slight Lee?! And want would Bison Boy translate - Mouse Man, Cow Girl.
No, I'ma probably have to go with Kid Konquer!
As for my Adverb and Adverse toons, they'd all have to be renamed as adjectives for the joke to carry through - so just Courageous and Severe (and they should probably swap). Not nearly so spectacular. Maybe "The Mighty Gerund"!
"Never fear, an adjective is here!" doesn't sound right. "Just a toon looking for some action" only worked when you're an adverb. "Adjectives rule!!!" doesn't have the same ring. "Adjectives - we don't have anything to do with action, just nouns" is way off the mark. "Adjectives - we're all over the... pronouns"?!? Eh, nah - I don't think the 'Verb have a place in Praetoria.
And as for Bison Boy... dunno, Cow Belle?

Just call me "The Pool Guy" - cause I believe that power pools are the ultimate in powerset proliferation. Fewer powers to develop and available to all.
"ADVERBS - we define action!"
"ADVERSE - we are action!"

I guess Clouded's Praetorian version would be Evian or Aquafina.
