As mentioned elsewhere.
3 hours is not a War, it's a skirmish at best. The buildup was so unwarranted for this if that was all it was going to be, as Soundwave would say "all talk, no shock".
It makes Praetoria into a joke 'ooh look at the big threat Cole, he can only afford to send a three hour strike team, Imma shakin in me boots'. Compared to the now 'past threat' of the Rikti who just recently proceeded to bomb the crap out of Primal for an entire three day period and that was a small skirmish in a longer second Rikti War.
Seriously the two facts of it was only three hours and the badge was only available on Freedom is just a 'wha?' moment.
Very silly choice devs, very silly. -
Quote:Hmm Zaxxon.I was glad to see Zelda link to the past, Zaxxon, FF tatics (one of my favorite ever games)and the mario games. I used to have a table top arcade unit of Zaxxon, it may be kicking around in my barn somewhere still.
I was surprised Sega's 1991 time traveller wasn't listed though. While it wasn't a console game it really was a breakthrough game for its time.
*peers into his boardgame cupboard*
Ok why the hell do I have the boardgame of Zaxxon? -

Sadly I will be working the time of the meeting BUT...
Dr Mechano will offer his services when the time comes, the Rikti War had the production of stand issue armour to all those heroes that needed it from Big Lunk's company at the time. I'm sure he could whip up something comparable to it should any hero or villain need a battlesuit.
His Necrotech Hospital will also be used to treat any wounded/badly injured villains should they require it and will be on a 'war footing' for the duation of the Praetorian invasion.
This means that regular New You and Dream partner programs will be suspended and the building will be available to be used as a field hospital (mentioned above) and a defensive position (after the attack by Humanity First it has become a veritable fortress).
Though with his genetic cloning tech probably on par if not better than the tech available in Praetoria I imagine it would become a high priority target. -
Actually from what we've been told what would have been Paragon City in the Praetoria universe was nuked to hell, it's what caused a switch from Statesman to Tyrant, seeing his home town being nuked to supposedly stem the tide of Praetorian Hamidon.

Hmm the lag is never that bad during the BAF on Union.
But then Union, unlike the US servers, always runs them Master OF style (going for all of the badges in one hit) and the traditional way of doing it on Union is going for the 'keep 'em seperated' tactic anyway. -
Oh good lord that pack looks awesome!
I want that rifle...I want it so bad... -
Erm...is it unlocked on US servers yet.
Because it sure as hell ain't arrived on EU servers.
Just curious. -
I will note it IS called a 'Meet and Greet' and not a Q&A session. The words Meet and Greet imply general chatting, the occasional question and the like.
Also I managed to give Protean nightmares by saying there are Protean/Manticore slashfic arcs in the AE.
There isn't but shhhh don't tell him that. -
I will point out that it's mostly just chatting now as per the usual American side of things so don't expect any more answers for anything coming out sadly, it looks like they're being watched like hawks to not mention anything.
-
Since it's traditional that the EU meeting of the devs is more of a Q&A session than the American side of things, I'll be keeping people posted on various questions answered.
1) Dresses
No plans currently.
2) Cross server teaming.
It's in the works but there's a LOT of work progamming wise to make it happen.
3) Lambda Badges.
They will be making changes to the way the badges are awarded.
4) EU/NA server list merge.
"Very Soon"
5) Vanguard Pack
Will not be available in store since you can get it all ingame anyway.
6) More Costume slots.
Looking in to it, no promises though.
7) Customisable power pools
" We could just make hasten suck so you all stop using it. That's probably easier to do than make it color-alterable"
8) Team up teleporter
"We are looking at the Team up teleporter and how people use it."
9) Kirk or Picard.
"Archer"
10) Posi is sad that his friend can't play the new Valve game with him (the one that involves Portals) due to time issues.
11) Who would win a viscious battle royal if one broke out in Paragon Studios.
"Fight at Paragon? My money is on Hero-1 or Baryonux"
12) Global Account anniversery badges.
"Doing it is a lot harder than it looks"
Will edit in more as they come. -
Quote:And for Sword using scrappers. Also valid:
"Tyrant! We would have words with thee!"
"We're selling these fine leather jackets."
"Open up or we'll huff, and we'll puff, and we'll blow the tower down!"
"Hey, just between us, Cole, what ARE you compensating for with that tower?"
"Spiderling scout cookies!"
"No seriously, you have a gigantic tower and a statue of yourself outside the door. That just screams 'insecure'."
"Dibs on the helmet!"
"Evil meet my sword, SWORD, MEET EVIL!" -
Actually from what we can gather from the quickly deleted comment from the original announcement is that both Reptillian and Ape were either ready to go OR close to being finished (but not finished to a good enough degree to be put into the pack) but then pulled from the pack.
So the next pack is Steampunk (apparently, not sure where that info comes from) but expect an 'Animal Pack 2' to come down after that with the two costume sets pulled from it originally. -

Quote:Skycracker was smacked to one side, sent hurtling through some cargo containers by the tentacle smash.Independance Port, Dockside
Once again, villainous gloating had given someone else the time to do something to stop a Decepticon, perhaps they really needed to work on that. In this instance the thing stopping Skycracker turned out to be a gigantic orange tentacle much bigger then even she was, it swung in to try and slam her aside or wrap her up and crush her.
It was soon followed by seven more, two of which attempted to simply brush aside the SWAT team. There was something strange about them too; it seemed the entire giant beast was surrounded by faint semi-tangible whirling vortexes of water, strong enough to be quite painful to get caught in, not that being slammed or crushed would normally be painless.
The reason for this, and the beasts more intelligent then usual movements, became apparent as its head emerged, likewise surrounded by the semi-tangible vortexes as well as having the source of them perched atop it, holding onto two great reigns made of physics defying water.
Mirel let out a laugh as she set out directing the beats attack, and serving as the missile troops probably most unexpected reinforcements ever.
"Command, they've got a giant Octopus, you know what, I'm getting the frak out of here."
She picked herself up, "see you later squishies...I'll be back!"
Jumping into the air and transforming into her jet mode she fired her afterburners and burned it into the sky. -
Well according to the Wiki.
Quote:Eventually in October of 2009, during the introduction of Dr. Aeon, Chris "Back Alley Brawler" Bruce stated the fictitious dismissal of Doctor Brainstorm:
"That guy was caught stealing snacks out of people's desks and promptly given his walking papers. Snack time is serious business!" -
Quote:I think the point behind it was it didn't NEED a story, it's pretty much a purely game mechanic thing, yet you go this really oddball storry about Doctor Brainstorm (who is only used to explain these kind of things, never anything else) being the one responsible. And that is the excact reason, why it is so hard to write a story that actual makes sense for an MMO. People demanded powerset proliferation, we got that and now we complain about the story behind it? Great
Thankfully it only turns up as a lesser known piece of Lore in the games backstory and gets a mention during the very last VEAT story mission.
Metagame concepts like Powerset Prolifieration, Power customisation, the introduction of Invention Sets never needed a backstory, Power customisation didn't get one for example. There wasn't Doctor Brainstorm inventing a new power colour spectrumisation device which allowed everyone to colour their powers, it just happened. -
That's the other thing that made me go 'wha?'.
Having now played them both the Kal SF has a significantly easier end encounter AND awards you a permatemp (until 50) which makes life easier as well as awarding a notice once you hit 50.
So...erm...why does the Kal SF award a pretty substantial reward and the Sutter SF award sweet FA beyond the usual merits and badge? -
I will point out that the Airstrikes are not auto-tohit like the blue patches in the Apex taskforce.
Thanks to slotting level 30 set IOs it meant I was still softcapped to smashing/lethal during the taskforce and I could walk through the airstrikes without a care.
Also get someone with high defense if you have them to go stand around the Ghouls, this was my job, I'd amble over to them, stand there, taunt aura would pick them up, they'd explode for no effect. -
The reason I included the first Conan is this.
While the cinematography, sets and James Earl Jones are amazing, the dialogue can get to high levels of hilariously cheesy, some of the special effects are a bit hokey today (by the standards of the time they're really good). Conan himself is played by Arnie before he could really act that well, the main chunk of decent acting comes from the Supporting cast like Mako, Gerry Lopez, Max von Sydow (in a small but well acted role) and the above mentioned James Earl Jones.
It's not a film I'd recommend to anyone not already a fan of the genre, there are better fantasy films like Lord of the Rings once you've eased them in with the high fantasty stuff, go in with the low fantasy like the first Conan and first Beastmaster film.
It is by no means Hawk the Slayer level of bad, as I said good supporting cast, wonderful cinematogrpahy and sets that are probably some of the most elaborate you'll ever see outside of Lord of the Rings or Cleopatra.
The second film is just drek though, I still love it but I'm more than willing to admit it's not a patch on the first. -
Quote:I've always wondered whether Neuron was written like this (since the devs had been called out on this behaviour for quite a while) as a sort of insider jab at their follow dev team.Between that and the historic "ooh, shiny! We'll develop that furth... ooh, something new! We'll develop that fur.... ooh, bouncy ball! Ohhh, stick! Get the stick get the stick get the stick!" hyperactive puppy mentality (how are those PVP updates? AE arc selections for dev choice? How about the "We just want to work on new stuff, not change or update the old" attitude (almost direct quote, IIRC) from War Witch?) - yeah, I'm getting annoyed with the developers.
The 'might as well have never been written about' storm has probably changed ideas a number of times from what it was originally going to be since they can't keep their focus on it and now it's just a Chekovs gun, it'll be whatever it needs to be to cover the gap in the 'all new city of Praetorian fighting' story arc.
Seriously I can understand crap like the Reichsman Taskforces being included with the good stuff that is Clone/Doppleganger arcs (despite what Eva and Venture say, they are good, ignore them, they're just being snobby) because of the person it was given to (a person who had zero knowledge of the backstory, wasn't given the time to learn how the world breathed and was hired just to write those two taskforces).
When I actually find myself starting to even slightly agree with Venture of all people (a person who I find pretentious at best and...well other things at worst) I know it's getting bad.
Now as I said when talking it over with Sam, Taskforces really aren't the place for great writing. The best Story Arcs are like graphic novels, they take their time, provide build up pacing and engage the person playing them solo.
Taskforces are your action film, you're there for explosions, punch ups and the occasional bit of witty banter or one liners, expecting too much out of them is like expecting Michael Bay to direct a film akin to the Seventh Seal, not going to happen. -
I think the problem here is that the IDF are being used for endgame Incarnate content and are suppose to, at the moment, require Incarnates to be a match.
Then suddenly level 20 non-Incarnates have no such trouble.
It's a kind of disconnect, you can't have the IDF being the endgame badass AND be matchable by a low level taskforce, it kind of peeves off Incarnate players since it makes them feel less powerful and doesn't do the enemy group justice.
Now if they'd stuck to just using Skyraiders that would have been fine. -
I'm honestly surprised at some of these picks.
Like Bill and Ted 1 and 2, those are really considered bad movies? Since when? They're awesome. It's the only role that Keanu Reeves has ever been perfect for.
Flash Gordon is just amazingly intentional camp, perhaps it's because the film was massively more successful here in England (considering it has BRIAN BLESSED, Richard O'Brien and Max Von Sydow which are considered national treasures by most Brits over the age of 30 OR geeky younger ones) and had a soundtrack by two greats of the 80's Queen and Vince Dicola (who penned the scores for Rocky IV and the original Transformers movie to name a few).
Shoot'em up I just saw as a really good parody of the modern action film.
Edit:
Also Clint Eastwood Spaghetti westerns, those are some of the best examples of the genre, especially ones like Pale rider and the ever classic The Good, the bad and the ugly (where the main hero isn't really that heroic and the villain is a magnificent [censored]). -
Gah I suppose Flash Gordon is technically a bad film.
Alright fine, I'll stick it with my guilty pleasure even if I do own 2 copies of it on DVD (one regular edition and one 20th anniversery edition with BRAIN BLESSED! doing audio commentary). -
Alright, what are they, everyone has atleast one guilty pleasure, a film they know is crap for whatever reason but they enjoy anyway.
The list of mine are as follows:
Conan (both films).
Street Fighter: The movie (if only for Raul Julia chewing the scenery).
Labyrinth (You remind me of the babe).
Johnny Mnemonic (it's hideously dumb but I actually watched it during a Bad Movieathon with friend and after House of the dead 1 and 2, Blood Rayne 1 and 2 it actually got cries of 'oh my god, emotion!' from us which was so sorely lacking in the Uwe Bolle films, not from Keanu Reeves but from the supporting cast).
Daredevil: Directors Cut (It isn't a bad movie, it's not great but it isn't bad either).
Rocky IV ("I cannot beat him, he is like iron").
So come on, get it out in the open, you feel better once you get these secrets off your chest.
