I guess this game is not art.

Boo. Smithsonian lost credibility with one of their choices. |
Also, the thing you're referencing is the only thing of the MMO genre represented.
Comrade Smersh, KGB Special Section 8 50 Inv/Fire, Fire/Rad, BS/WP, SD/SS, AR/EM
Other 50s: Plant/Thorn, Bots/Traps, DB/SR, MA/Regen, Rad/Dark - All on Virtue.
-Don't just rebel, build a better world, comrade!
I got ownt.
This exhibit has nothing to do with whether a specific video game qualifies as art or not. Qualifying as art, btw, has nothing to do with being good or bad - for example, Triumph of the Will is art but sex is not.
MMOs are amazingly under represented... while Zelda is over represented and not all of them are art

Mostly I think since they were focusing on specific art and gameplay styles of the various generations of video games Zelda makes a good amount of sense. There have been a lot of Zelda clones over the years and the series itself has gone through a very interesting visual progression over that time as well.
MA Arcs: Yarmouth 1509 and 58812
Disappointed that CoH is not on the list of course. But were some choices there that I did agree with, The original Fallout and Bioshock for example. There were some choices that I would have put on the list, like Planescape: Torment for example.
But I'm sure there are a lot of people out there disappointed that their personal faves aren't on this grand list.
"Civilization advances by extending the number of important operations which we can perform without thinking of them."
I was looking for Rogue, personally.
Edit: Or Nethack.
I was glad to see Zelda link to the past, Zaxxon, FF tatics (one of my favorite ever games)and the mario games. I used to have a table top arcade unit of Zaxxon, it may be kicking around in my barn somewhere still.
I was surprised Sega's 1991 time traveller wasn't listed though. While it wasn't a console game it really was a breakthrough game for its time.

*peers into his boardgame cupboard*
Ok why the hell do I have the boardgame of Zaxxon?
Diablo II and Starcraft are on the list, which pleases me..
Still would of rather had an actual Warcraft game aside from WoW on there though.. Although it's impact on MMOs in general is quite pronounced, so it probably does deserve a spot.
Why was I not surprised when I got to the O's?
@Demobot
Also on Steam
I am still amazed the COH got no mention but PACMAN? seriously? I realize in its day it was a popular game but come on? THAT'S Art but we have zones like the Cascades in the Shadow Shard and even the war torn look of say Mercy or Boom Town but no mention. LOL Who got to vote on that list anyway?

Boo.
Edit: Edited out second part. Yea, I didn't read the article. This was a public poll. I did not think the Smithsonian would have done such a thing.
