No love for earth trollers anymore?

"Level 50 Boss AE team lfm Tanker and Controller" - that sort of thing.

Doesn't that usually mean they are looking for a Stone Tank and a Pocket Kin?

"The tip of a shoelace is called an aglet, its true purpose is sinister." The Question
Earth/Storm is my favorite CoX toon hands down. Probably one of my top 3 most-fun MMO toons of all-time, and I've played 'em all. Unlike a lot of "fun" characters, it's also extremely effective at what it does. I'd roll it again in a heartbeat... although I'd rather see an Earth nuking set so I could roll a Storm/Earth just for kicks! rawr.
Wouldn't ever worry about Earth. It's trollers' little secret.
Earth/Trick Arrow is sick amounts of fun.
I have a earth/TA and on teams ppl just stand back and watch lol it's funny actually.
It's sad. I heard a team broadcasting for a blaster. I asked them if my earth storm controller could join.
They pointed to their fire/kin and said they already had a controller.
I replied, "That's damage, this is real control".
They let me join the team and the fire/fire tank never dropped below 90% on a boss run.
They were surprised that any controller could keep every boss locked down.
They first told me to stop the knockback, until they realized that I was the one keeping the mobs IN one location. They loved my runner catching abilities.
Honestly, if I need control on a team or TF, I will LOVE to have a earth every time. And a well played Earth is hard to put a price on.
I'm so glad I read this thread. I've been playing a new Earth/Storm (currently at 24) and its been a blast to play. I'm glad that there are still people out there looking for controllers that control. That said, I've got a fire/kin (which I made WAAAAY back in like I2) and have done that whole song and dance. It can get the job done for control when you're actually trying (which I usually do), but Earth/Storm makes it feel so... easy. I just start the popcorn machine and then jump with the bouncing enemies, firing off my single-target hold when its up and other stuff as needed. The team is meanwhile annihilating them without taking damage. Everyone wins!
Earth/storm is one of the combos that your teammates can go, "Hey wait a minute. We get to play stupid," and they do and yet you can take care of pretty much whatever they bring in. I have literally had a team fighting different mobs at 3 different spots on the map.
Hah, had to share this one. 8-man team, we're on level 5 difficulty, level 24-26 (for the most part, had one or two SK'd up. In the world of AE, you can't be picky when you're running normal missions). We're in one of those office maps in a particular place where three mobs spawn very near one another. We manage to take one out without agroing the other two. So far so good.
The other two are practically on top of each other, and, sure enough, both are agro'd. There are a ton of mobs. But you know what? That's ok! One mob was in one of those nice short dead-end alcoves. I dropped quicksand on them (and the other group once it came up), earthquake between the two mobs and then Galed the group in the alcove over and over until we finished up the first group (which got freezing rain non-stop. I sure love SB).
As much as I normally dislike knockback, a reliable knockback and a corner is your best friend. Gale+quicksand was the MVP combo in that fight. Makes me wish I'd have fit hurricane into my build earlier than 30.
I just ding'd 45 on my Earth/Rad not even 15 minutes ago. It has been painfully slow to solo, yet rocks out on teams...
Last night, I was with a trio in Croatoa farming for the badges. It was me (Earth/Rad) a 29 Earth/Kin and a 50 blaster.
I have, however, only seen a couple of Earth trollers while lvling this toon. I took a break after AE went live, so some were lvl'd then.
My first toon was a mind/kin/fire, a very team-oriented hold/buff build, with stealth and teleport added in for more supporting. (Gotta love stealthing through the map, teleporting the team in, confusing the AV to take out his followers and removing any aggro). Of course, soloing pre-fireball was heeeell.
Then I decided to make an earth/storm/earth on a whim. <3 <3 <3 <3
It was better suited to almost any situation than the mind/kin, could solo decently, and allowed so many insane moves that left the team going "You did WHAT?!? Why are you still alive?" Also, the massive amounts of control it handed out prevented sooo many wipes. Eight man group somehow managed to aggro 4-5 spawns? Woohoo, I can finally use those inspirations I've been hoarding.
So... there's still lots of love for earth, here.
I've got one started on Virtue. I'm enjoying it so far.
Those short dead end alcoves are also lovely places for a tornado+lightning storm+quicksand+snow storm combo.
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

My all time favorite teammate was an Earth/Rad, I was so impressed with how well she played the toon and how effective it was.
Earth is still among the tops in locking down multiple mobs and making difficult mission insanely easy for teammates.
Theres nothing like juggling 3 mobs at a time while your teammates giggle hysterically while annhilating everything in their path.
Yes Earth is still the bees knees.
I still remember a loooong time ago (3+ years ago?) when my main (EI Kin/Rad Def) did my first Freakshow respec (the one that starts in FF/has freakshow in the reactor) and we had a full team and one of those toons that was in our team was an Earth/FF controller.
We got to the reactor room and I remember being in other respec TFs and being swarmed by mobs so I was curious how this would go (and how much damage the reactor would take). To my surprise the 'troller had pretty much all the mobs locked down (except for the stragglers that were by the doors/running around) and the reactor barely got touched. This is also the same time/run where I found out you could buff the reactor core (he was bubbling the core heh). I was so surprised at how awesome his toon was at controlling and keeping all of our team safe (and the reactor) with the bubbles....it made me want to make an Earth/FF!
I have an Earth/Storm that's a lvl 32 on a 2nd account....she's fun too I always liked the combo of Earth/Storm....good stuff!

All this talk about Earth/Storm.. feel like I'm missing out with my Earth/Kin, lol. I've never tried Storm before and want to. For a Storm newbie, would Plant pair with it better than Earth? Or does it just depend on who's behind the wheel?
I'm sad about all the Fire/Kin hate but I guess with the popularity of farming recently, it's to be expected. Part of what makes the Fire/Kin so great is not just its damage but also its control. Especially with my Fire/Kin/Stone, I'm stacking stuns and holds all over the place and not only do a lot of damage but do it in safety. I'm not saying that Earth/ isn't better at controlling, I'm just saying if you had a Fire/Kin that wasn't controlling as well as killing, you were looking at a bad player, not a bad combo.
With that being said, I see a resurgence in the popularity of control now that people will be able to run larger and tougher spawns, regardless of team size. Suddenly an Earth/Sonic and a Rad/Fire look like a terrifying combo.

Storm is a very fun and flashy set with any Primary. It adds more direct damage than any other secondary. Plant, Fire, Earth and Ice all have AoE Immobilize powers with 12 seconds of -knockback that will allow Tornado to be an awesome damage machine if you spam the Immobilize. Grav has an AoE Immob that allows knockdown, turning Freezing Rain into a better control power. Fire, Earth and Grav all have AoE Stuns that can stack with Thunderclap. Ill/Storm is viewed as the "King of Chaos" since it has so little lockdown but is still very powerful. I would say that Mind has the least synergy with Storm.
Earth/Storm has something that most other Earth combos lack . . . damage in the late powers and the possibility of being able to solo an Earth Controller at a reasonable pace. Several of Earth's and Storm's powers stack and complement each other. Plus, it a very showy combo -- lots of big graphics and big noises.
I feel that Earth/Rad is a more flexible build, but Earth/Storm is very, very good. Its biggest weakness is a lack of a self heal.

I like Earth, but I've been on Dominators (I know) since they got it. And with Earth assault coming, I'll probably roll another.
Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.

My earth/sonic has just out leveled my first toon. psi/ice blaster. heh course thats only lvl 33 anyway. . and he is my second toon.
guess i tailored him for teaming, good strong holds, ae and sonic buffs to help everyone. love a tanker to get a nice big group , stone cages then gasses, then pick them off with fossilize.
It does take a while when solo'ing but, m/a has made it easier to find teams at funny times of the day.
