Of the three, which would be the most effective? I don't have experience with any of these assault sets beyond the first 4-6 levels. How are they comparable in terms of AoE Damage, ST Damage and synergy with Ice/?
I plan to play in melee range and really try and leverage Arctic Air (Gonna slot it with Contagious Confusion) -
I was thinking 10 PM EST (7 pst) to start up. Doing this on my iPhone but;
1) Me (Pretty Lie, 50+1 Dom)
2) ---
3) ---
4) ---
5) ---
6) ---
7) ---
8) ---
My global is @Electric Feel. Please feel free to message me near the start time too. -
I was thinking it might be fun to get a few Task Forces run solely by Dominators and Controllers. I was thinking of the ITF, Apex and Tin Mage but would be open to running something else if we can't get enough Incarnates.
I'll be bringing my 50+1 Perma Fire/Psi Dom.
First dibs to fellow Repeat Offenders. -
I just went for both. Perma-Dom and soft-cap S/L defense (not to mention Perma-Drain Psyche) make me rather ridiculously overpowered on my Dom. Makes all my other toons feel somewhat lack-luster.
-
I've been having a lot of fun with these two powersets together but I've come to the point where I realize I'm only going to be running one of these to Incarnate levels and can really only afford one expensive build. So, I am wondering which one would end up being the most powerful and benefit the most from Incarnation and IOing.
The pros and cons I've discovered so far are as follows:
Scrapper
Pros: Huge damage and benefits the most from Soul Drain.
Cons: Rather squishy, doesn't benefit as much from team buffs, and mobs will scatter from Burn due to AI and lack of Taunt effect in Blazing Aura.
Brute
Pros: Taunt Aura, Great Damage, Gets buffed well on team.
Cons: Still somewhat squishy, Soul Drain seems less powerful.
Tank
Pros: Least Squishy, Taunt Aura.
Cons: Least damage, have to take Shadow Punch.
What I'd like to build towards, IO-wise, is something like a minimum of 33% S/L and/or Melee defense (would love to get close to soft-cap though) while still maintaining high recharge, possibly Perma-Hasten and/or Perma-Soul Drain levels.
What would be my best bet for AT? -
Does a confused Battle Maiden get hurt by the blue patches? Hmm...
-
I just realized that I would like it to be open to all ATs, so is there an AE building in Nova Praetoria? We could do it there, possibly.

*Posted on the Atlas Park community message board, amid countless posts about missing persons, stolen purses and missed connections, sits a lonely message that reads:*
Are you an avid gamer? Do you love slaying dragons and stopping futurist assassination plots? Do you not go to the park anymore because of it being cloudy with a chance of Rikti? Then come down to Architect Entertainment and experience the virtual joy of being whomever you want!
My name is Ellen Clement and I am a former stay-at-home mother looking to fill in some time since my son left for College and I've always been into playing video games. I'm hoping there are a few like-minded individuals that are also looking to start a gaming group with me. We'll fight Demons, pretend to be heroes or wizards and see what horizons are out there in this great gaming venue.
((I am looking at starting a little superteam that I've had the idea for since AE came out but that I had never really got around to doing.
The whole premise that I'm going for is that these are normal people outside of the Architect missions that enter into the AE missions to have some fun. As such, all their leveling and progress would take place inside AE missions. I'd be willing to buy all the Halloween Salvage so we can all have two costumes right from the start, one that we change into inside of the missions and the other that is mundane.
I'm looking for two types of people:
1) People who would be interested in participating in the Superteam itself, and;
2) People who like creating arcs, who wouldn't mind creating "video game" style arcs for the purpose of this Superteam.
I was wondering, to those who would be interested in being part of the Superteam, should we create characters with the mundane names of the toon or should we give them a fictional character name? I assume, once we become level 50, there's a chance we'd want to create a plot-line to have our toons actually inherit their characters' powers.
I'm also guessing we'll end up having to run our costume missions so our characters can have different costumes for different settings (IE, future, fantasy and hero style costumes), so is it permissible to arrange to do these OOC?
As far as time goes, I'd like to run it once a week for a few hours, maybe twice a week. HOWEVER; I can't set up a specific time because I, unfortunately, work on call.
But I wanted to see who was interested.
Should I cross-post this to other forums? If so, which ones? Roleplaying, AE and Player Events?
Thanks in advance!) -
Quote:Yeah, I'm finding Imps actually a lot more useful than they are on my Fire/Kin, so I will likely keep them around. Anyone have any other comments?Imps is a standby! How could you ever think of dropping imps! (gasp!). To be honest, I am not sure that dropping imps for subdue or tk is a good decision. I'm basing this solely on the fact that no matter what, your imps will keep attacking, even if you are held/slept/stun/out of end. Any of those conditions knock out your chance to attack with subdue or tk. Keep the imps I say!

Quote:It isn't the fear component of Burn still being there, it's that there is a panic element to the AI. It seems like when they receive a lot of damage, they become demoralised and scatter. Since my Brute had a taunt in blazing aura, they turn around and try and fight me just as quick as they run.Which mobs, are you softcapped, etc. Specific mobs and being unable to hit you have some effect on the mob AI iirc. But I don't believe the fear component is there. Alternatively, you can just opo up the info button of your skill and see if there is a fear component. (granted that's sometimes inaccurate)

Quote:My definition of casual player tends to be someone who doesn't frequent the boards and doesn't know and isn't interested to find out the exact mechanics and all the optimal strategies in a game. I should have clarified but my definition of casual player isn't tied neccessarily to play time. What do you mean by casual player? To me, it's someone who doesn't have a lot of time to play games. Which means the market system ACTUALLY CATERS TO THEM in the example you gave. A casual player can play with the time they have available, and put bids up on the market when they log. It fits into their schedule quite well if they choose to use it accordingly.
You can get commons through tickets as well. Sure, it's random, but wait! What's this!? If you made space and did enough random rolls on common salvage, you could get the piece you need for sure! And then what!? Sell it for those astronomical prices you don't want to pay!? WIN!
The system works. You just refuse to let it work for you.
As far as letting the system work for me, I, personally, place 24 hour bids and have hundreds of millions of inf at any one time to be able to buy it now, specifically because I like giving my 50s as much play time as my alts. So yes, it does work for me as is. I just can't help but feel that there could be more players getting more out of it at the 10-35 levels. Perhaps this isn't the solution but I guess that's the problem I want to address. -
-
Often on my toons, while purchasing off level common sets, I find myself wondering if common salvage should be unlimitedly available at a set price. I, myself, understand that I can put low bids on common salvage, wait 24 hours, and usually have them filled but I think it limits a lot of lower level toons and more casual players from entering into the IO marketplace. I think this stifles a lot of the demand for lower, off-level recipes as well.
I find it rather amusing that I can usually find a Bruising Blow or other undesirable low level sets on the market for 5 000 - 100 000, but often the salvage required to craft them in any sort of hurry could run you anywhere from 100 000 to 1 000 000. If you had the option of buying salvage like that, it would speed up a lot of the process and take out a lot of the tedium of slotting low level toons.
I wouldn't want them to touch higher level salvage at all and I don't think this would affect other aspects of the market negatively either. What do you think? -
Quote:I can't agree enough.This
After playing my Claws/Fire brute a lot I can't play any /fire, /DA or /Elec because of the running, there are others reason too. I'm about to delete my level 39 Spins/fire because I hate the running so much.
I have a level 35 DM/Fire Scrapper and a level 37 DM/Fire Brute. The difference in survivability is appalling, based solely on the Taunt component of Blazing Aura in my Brute. A lot of people might think that I am saying my Scrapper survives more, but what happens in practice is my Brute keeps everything near her. I hit Fiery Embrace, Soul Drain, Burn, Siphon Life (to top up) and then Consume and then another Burn. Most everything is dead. I try the same strategy on my Scrapper and everything is scattered to all directions pelting me with ranged attacks.
I really wish the damage auras had a Taunt component. -
Well, we got a new version of Mids, with the Alpha Slot being available, I wanted to make a plan for my Dom that I'm working up to be my main on my alternate server. I expect that this is not too unrealistic an expectation on a build, considering that by the time I get to 50 and get Alpha-slotted with the Very Rare, I'll have made enough inf to finance the purples - I have 800 million sitting around for her already and Tips should get me the LotGs by then.
I'm not sure on slotting on a few powers, but I really would like to keep the soft-capped S/L defense and wouldn't really like to lose any recharge.
Would I be better suited keeping Imps or dropping them and going with TK Thrust or Subdue?
My eventual plan is to be able to just drop Hasten and run Perma-Dom without it after slotting a couple more expensive purple sets, and keeping my soft-cap, but this is a slightly more realistic build (hence the lack of +3% PvP IO)
Anyway, thanks to anyone who reads and comments.

I was toying around with a respec build for my Claws/DA. I decided to aim for something that wasn't too prohibitively expensive, so there are no purple sets or PvP IOs in the build. I took Focused Accuracy as a set mule and don't generally plan to use it. I will be using Tactics, though, in all likelihood. I've even thought of stealing a slot from Health to throw into Tactics as an End Reducer.
I don't like the lack of Gaussian's: Chance for Build Up in Follow-Up and there are other things I don't like but I do like that it's soft-capped to S/L.

I'd like the /sign this.
I think it would actually improve the game, everyone having access to this, through a booster or an in game accolade.
Just think of the improved supply of some things. -
Quote:With that being said, if you can get a decent amount of recharge, I'd also look at picking up some ranged defense on that toon and possibly spend some time Hovering above the battle. Your controls and your attacks are predominantly ranged, so when dealing with Mez resistant mobs (Romans, for example), you can bring a lot of damage to the table without sacrificing survivability.Doms don't build for defense, we don't need it. Our mezzes are our defense. We need recharge up the *** for Permadom. You will need Hasten.
It takes at least 75% global recharge with Hasten on auto to technically be Permadom, but realistically you'll want at least 82.5% so you don't have to watch the button like a hawk. At 100% Global Recharge, you get perma-Hasten, which is easy double-stacked Domination. -
Plan on running them only very situationally, like popping a yellow. Doubt I'd run Focused Accuracy at all.

I have a level 50 Claws/DA Scrapper who hasn't been respec'ed since the I19 Inherent Fitness and I am not in love with her current build, regardless. I am working on the Cardiac Alpha slot with her and don't want to spend too too much on the build. I'll be getting the LotG: Recharges and probably the Kinetic Combat triples through A Merits.
Here is the planned build:

Level 0: LEGACY BUILD -
Quote:The funny thing is, I was trying for just S/L but I must be doing it wrong because I ended up with 43.5 Melee and 42.5 S/L on the build. So slotting advice would definitely be appreciated.Softcapping Melee AND Smashing/Lethal probably isn't going to happen. Well, it might be possible, but you're going to have to gimp your character badly in other areas to pull it off. Example: In order to get the set bonuses you will need to get there, you will be sacrificing a lot of slots that could have been used for more recharge.
I'd say choose whether Melee or S/L is more important to you. I'd be inclined to say you'll get more mileage out of S/L, because there are a crapton of defense debuffing machine guns in the game that melee defense won't do anything to protect you from. -
The assumption with this build is that I will be running, eventually, the Very Rare Spiritual Alpha.
I would like to keep my APP as Pyre Mastery, but I could be persuaded to go with the Soul PPP if I can get Shadow Meld perma'd to give me the same survivability. I would just detest spending 3 seconds animating it, so I'd vastly prefer otherwise. My hopeful goal with this toon is a couple things. I would like to be able to solo AVs. Not worried about using Blues to help with endurance recovery when against a single target, though. Prefer not to have to rely on Reds or Purples or any other inspirations. I also want this toon to be able to take on large groups of +3s and +4s without too much issue.
I know that DM/FA's strength is really high recharge, I just want to look at combining slightly lower recharge than I could get otherwise with soft-capped M/S/L Defense.
Here's the build, thanks for anyone who is able to help.

Pretty much once you get the Scrapper slotted decently well. Either using SOs, or even better, IOs.
I don't know the exact AT damage modifiers, but the Brute's damage modifier is far below the Scrapper's so when you factor in damage bonuses, you're looking at a lower gross damage level. Unslotted or poorly slotted, a Brute will outperform a Scrapper, because Fury allows them to build on their damage level quite a bit, but once they're both slotted to the ED Cap for Damage and have their endurance under control, the Scrappper will, generally, pull ahead by a small margin. When you add sets that have a lot of damage bonuses built in (IE, DM/SD, KM/SD and most sets paired with /SD or /FA), they pull ahead by a greater amount because they have a better base number to begin with. -
Quote:I'm not really an expert on math, but I wonder if you took the -Dam% and compared it to the Healing of DMs heal, what the difference in mitigation would end up being. How much -Dam% would an optimal KM chain involve?Kinetic/Shield should in theory out perform Dark/Shield in ST DPS. It also acts as a nice damage debuffer and to throw another hat trick in the ring most AVs do not resist damage debuffing so while it may not have the same level of survivability as Dark does it does pretty well. I'm still toying with the idea of making one but I already have a shield character and I might be making a GM solo-er here soon with a controller.
I've never gone the AV soloist route with my toons (SS does not make an excellent AV soloer and that's where I've been dumping my inf) and I was thinking of doing either DM/FA or KM/SD as one. I think KM/SD would be much easier than the high recharge, 45 S/L/M DM/FA I'm attempting to design (haven't got there yet.) -
I think it's time for a new Scrapper and I noticed that while I have a SS/SD Brute and a SD/SS Tank, I don't have any */SD Scrappers, which seems like a shame considering how much I like the set.
With that in mind, I decided to take a look at the Primaries that I could pair with it. Fire/ looks promising because of the big damage numbers, but I always told myself I was going to pair Fire with /SR so I think I'll hold off on that one. DM is a favourite, for many reasons, but I've got 2 DM/FAs (1 Scrapper, 1 Brute) and a FA/DM Tank and am all DMed out for now. Looking through the rest, Kinetic Melee really stood out at me because of the seeming synergy. With AAO and the attacks from KM, I'd be stacking a bit of -Dam while adding to my damage, and Shield Charge seems to make up for some of the AoE I'm lacking.
Has anyone played this combo? How has it worked out for you? Any recommendations? (And don't worry, I'm no stranger to the Empowerment Station and early frakenslotting to make /SD more fun to play at the lower levels.)
