With the double xp weekend I decided to roll a Claws/DA, which is currently sat at level 26, throughly enjoying the toon even if there end problems which i had already read about.

As the subject suggests I have been trying to make the build soft capped, but not having much look so far, I did some digging and found a build by Werner for a Kat/DA (thanks Werner) which has been a great help, I have followed as much as I can from the build trying to get the elusive soft cap. But no luck so far, I have posted my build here to see if anyone can help regarding the primary power slots or just a general critique.

Any help or information would be very heplful and much appriciated

You can probably soft cap one category of defense, but they you would be vulnerable to a lot of other damage types or attacks. I suggest going for 32.5% melee/ranged/AoE, or S/L/E/N. Either one will put you in a good position for staying alive in most content. At 32.5% defense, you are one small purple away from the soft cap. You will find that you don't need to be soft capped for most content, but the ease of soft capping makes hard content a breeze.

You may have to give up Hasten and pick up Hover if you want to reach 32.5% melee/ranged/AoE.

It *might* be possible to reach the softcap with Claws/DA, but you'll have to give up literally everything to do it, and even then, I'm still not sure it will work.

Katana/Dark Armor can hit the softcap only because Divine Avalanche shores up melee defense by over 22%, allowing builds to focus on getting Ranged and AoE positional defense bonuses.

Dark Armor isn't a defense based set. It only has one +defense power, and it isn't a very strong one. Adding softcapped defenses to a Dark Armor build ends up being exceedingly difficult to do. For a Claws primary build, I would look at trying to softcap Smashing/Lethal and Energy/Negative Energy defenses over doing anything positional. You'll find that it is easier to cap defenses that way.

I was toying around with a respec build for my Claws/DA. I decided to aim for something that wasn't too prohibitively expensive, so there are no purple sets or PvP IOs in the build. I took Focused Accuracy as a set mule and don't generally plan to use it. I will be using Tactics, though, in all likelihood. I've even thought of stealing a slot from Health to throw into Tactics as an End Reducer.

I don't like the lack of Gaussian's: Chance for Build Up in Follow-Up and there are other things I don't like but I do like that it's soft-capped to S/L.

Just wanted to correct this. Divine Avalanche and Parry boost melee and lethal defense by 15%, not over 22%.

Yes, it will get there if you slot it as a defense power. But if you're chasing positional softcap you are pretty much required to put Mako's Bite in all your single target attacks, including DA/Parry or you're not going to get there on Ranged.

For a Claws/DA, yeah, I second the advice to shoot for S/L/E/N instead. You don't have Parry or Divine Avalanche to leverage for positional defense, so softcapping positionally is going to be either A) Impossible, or B) you'll have to make the toon unplayable to get it there.

Not necessarily. My expensive build and Ramia Angriffe's cheap build both soft cap without Mako's Bite in Divine Avalanche. Both of us have only a single Makos' Bite set, both in Soaring Dragon. I'm getting 23% defense from Divine Avalanche, and Ramia's build gets 21%, allowing us to soft cap with a single hit.

Sorry about lack of reply, been away from my PC, so from what I'm reading aiming for the soft cap for smash/lethal is going to be easier than trying for Melee/Ranged & AoE.

How will this affect the builds survivabilty? And if not able to soft cap the positional defense, what we thinking the highest we can possible aim for here? Need to work on my build and post it up, try and get it on ere tomorrow as not at my normal computer at present.
