Won't run on the MacMini, since it has Intel GMA 950 graphics.

This is what i want to know. A friend of mine plays COH in her Mac through Bootcamp and she's dealing with crash issues. Will she have to rebuy the game to get the Mac version or can she just download the mac client from her account page?

[/ QUOTE ]

She can download the Mac client for free when it is released.

[/ QUOTE ]

Now this is awesome!

Most MacBooks, other than the ones from late 2007 and after, also use Intel GMA 950.

The GMA 950 isn't officially supported by the Transgaming software. That doesn't mean it won't run, though - quite the opposite, in fact.

I bet its because, they don't know how to use windows, cause, you know the parts inside the machine are the same.

[/ QUOTE ]

That makes perfect sense. I play City of Heroes (and WAR) on my XP partition on my iMac but I have no idea how to use Windows. *eyeroll*

Funny thing.. the fact that no Mac-Native-Client was around was one of the few things keeping me on Windoze machines. I think I just might officially migrate now.

Maybe.

I've been using Windows since 3.0 and I still don't get it. That's what I tell my family anyway. After I refused to do tech support for their Windows machines they all bought Macs. Now if only my in-laws would take the hint.

It doesn't say that it is not supported, it says it won't run. So I am unsure. I know people can run it on a 950 when booted in windows, but maybe something about the mac version, or how the game runs in Mac OS, isn't compatible with it.

It is tempting. I have an XP machine at home that I literally do nothing but play games on. (I mean, maybe browse, but no work/business stuff of any kind)

I do all my work on a dual-headed Linux box, or my MacBook Pro. I am seriously eager to leave windows behind forever though, although I do still play a lot of classic games... but I could see keeping one copy of XP around for classic gaming and never adding windows to anything again.

Done. And when CoH for Mac goes out of closed beta, you can all expect an All-New All-New Guide to Running CoH on a Mac.

[/ QUOTE ]

Probably going to be a lot simpler.

But one thing that will have to come up a lot in Technical Issues and Bugs is, Are you running Mac or PC?

Question:

Will this power teleport you to the door if you're in the same zone already, or will it take you across zones to the door? (Zube is thinking of certain shard TF's...)

Well, since it is the same exact software the EA used to release an OS X version of Command & Conquer 3, and that runs on my friend's GMA950 MacBook, I'm willing to bet it would also run on this one. Guess that's something we'll have to find out.

It's funny that this might not only bring in new CoH players who are Mac uses but new Mac uses who are CoH players. Maybe NCNC should try to arrange a discount on new Macs for existing coh players. Like an education discount ... but not.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ironically the new guide is probably going to be the biggest yet, because it will have to cover things that for a Mac that, under Boot Camp, were covered by NC's support site, but work differently for Mac.

For instance, things like using the Mac single-button mouse with CoH, or recommended 3rd party mice, or how to switch applications (if you're listening to itunes in the background for instance), or optimizing gameplay speed.

Driver compatibilities? What be that?

I don't understand why you're making it even easier to travel to a mission. At least considering giving it a very long recharge timer.

[/ QUOTE ]

Um... you enjoy spending a lot of time traveling to missions?

*waits impatiently for the PC version of the power*

[/ QUOTE ]

It doesn't take very long to travel to missions. Killing all zone travel makes too many zones vacant which is not good.

Encountering other players is important and brings more socializing to the game.

[/ QUOTE ]
I suspect that it will be a 'port to mission door from anywhere in zone' power, as it would be more difficult to set up the power so that it transferred you to the mission zone and left you at the mission door than it would be to port you to the mission door from wherever you are in the zone. The former would hit both blueside and redside equally, while the latter would impact redside a lot harder, since a much higher proportion of redside missions are in-zone.

Okay, I've put my application in with the specs of three of the Macs I can test on. It will be interesting to see whether the CoH client runs any better than the EVE Online client, which also uses TransGaming's Cider Windows emulation layer thing, and which unfortunately was more or less unplayable in my testing.
