Discussion: Closed Beta Mac Test

SO EXCITED! Jack Emmert said this would never ever happen ...

So who wants to take bets on this being the biggest thing among that which was mentioned/hinted at in the Game Zone article?

Matt: We view competition as a great thing. Its nice for us and the players that we have almost five years of constant updates and new systems, and most new games will have a challenge competing with that amount of content out the gate.
But most importantly, having competition pushes us to look at our own game and see how we can improve City of Heroes and stay competitive. [u]Youre going to see a lot more features that we thought wed never be able implement over the next year or so.[u] NCsoft has given us a tremendous amount of support and we think that these features (and others) are critical to keep our leadership position in the MMO market. In this way, the upcoming competition only makes us better as a team and as a product.

City of Heroes didn't fail, City of Heroes was killed. If a 747 dropped on your house, you'd say you were killed, not you failed to find a safer dwelling.

I'll take that bet (although I'd get slapped for insider information) since I know there is more awesome yet to come...

But they don't get the normal Good vs. Evil goodies of the jump pack, the Pocket D teleporter, and the justice and sinister costumes.
And while it'll be the package that Mac people are pointed to...a new PC user could get that package and download the PC client, while a Mac user wanting the old GvE goodies could buy the old package and download the Mac client.
I'm a mac user who will be switching to running the game on his Mac (probably...my PC is newer and has a better video card than my Mac, so I may stick with the PC), and I won't get those goodies automatically because I'm using the client, as I understand it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I dont see why you wouldnt get the goodies. You'll keep your toons with all thier stuff I'd imagine.
You will most likley be able to buy emac client and have all the goodies added to each character and get an extra months subscription like Good vs evil or DVD collectors work.
~
Good news for mac users, even if it brings out all the OS tripe about whats better.
~
Not real pleased about more micro payments, espically as this one will be most likley be seen as 'needed' to completing TFs quick and all that. If it has a short recharge time it could really change a few dynamics around, and if short enough i can see less people picking recall friend....
It is how the good vs evil extra items were done, so it isnt anything new. (and damn that jump pack & pocket d thing are useful)
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):

I have a Mac, but it's a PowerPC...
And its actually the newer of my two machines...
Besides, the beta form keeps giving me:

You miss my point.
Should I, a Mac using person with an existing account decide NOT to purchase the Mac good vs. evil package, but instead just download the new Mac client and run it, it's free, but no new goodies. I probably will buy the package and get the goodies, but it's a choice. But my Mac using friend George, who doesn't have an account yet, will buy that package and get the goodies.

the page keeps spitting my application back as "Bad Input"
[/ QUOTE ]
I haven't read all the entries in this thread... This may have been answered...
But If you get the
BAD INPUT error,
Take the Carriage returns out of the Mac Information box !!
Put all information on one line (or more, it can wraparound)
Apparently the form cannot handle CRs in that field.

I don't understand why you're making it even easier to travel to a mission. At least considering giving it a very long recharge timer.

Um... you enjoy spending a lot of time traveling to missions?

A thought occurred to me...when doing an ouroboros arc with "No travel powers", will the port-to-mission be considered a travel power? Probably should, but it would have made those runs a lot faster.

I think it disables all vet rewards and purchased powers.

It's funny that this might not only bring in new CoH players who are Mac uses but new Mac uses who are CoH players. Maybe NCNC should try to arrange a discount on new Macs for existing coh players. Like an education discount ... but not.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, you'd have to be desperate for an excuse to get a new computer if you used that one.
[ QUOTE ]
...I suspect that it will be a 'port to mission door from anywhere in zone' power, as it would be more difficult to set up the power so that it transferred you to the mission zone and left you at the mission door than it would be to port you to the mission door from wherever you are in the zone. ...
[/ QUOTE ]
There is already at least one power that does both a TP to zone, and a TP to target, at the same time.
The 'Market Teleporter' token you can buy at the market does this.
You even get to pick WHICH zone to go to the market in.

I sooooooooooooo need a new mac. I've got two (EMac & old Macbook) and neither have the graphics card to play it.
CoH is one of the few reasons I still have a PC for gaming.
As a gamer who has a Windows PC and a PowerMac side-by-side on her desk*, this news pleases me immensely. I've signed up for the testing. *crosses fingers*

Wee Little Tank Girl, Wee Little Widow, Wee Little Clockwork
OK, not even going to read all the other replys. Simply going to join the whining that it isn't fair that the Apple people get exclusive costumes. Not fair to those of us who have been supporting the game.
Enjoy your day please.

If it's a PowerMac (as opposed to a MacPro), it won't work. Requires an Intel Mac.

Hi shining one,
The costumes and powers that are included in the Mac version are special items just like what was included in the PC Good vs. Evil version.
And, like the Good vs. Evil edition they will be available for all current subscribers who are interested in them to optionally purchase them. We'll have more details, including screenshots, pricing and availability, out in the near future.
Thanks for your support!

[/ QUOTE ]Ya, ... It WILL be something you can get.
No whinin. If ya want it, Buy it.
Although, I wouldn't have objected if it had been exclusive.
I enjoy a few of those little things in this game that you can tell something about that person just by looking at their character or the powers their alt uses.
ETA: I would add "Woot! First post after a redname", but there have been so many redname posts this thread, that it is not a big deal here! 8D

*Mutters* Posi and TehHouse always cookin up this stuff, makin me pay for all this good stuff, evil, just evil >_<
All those goodies are great, but right now iMac is weeping tears of joy like one of those mysterious crying statues one finds at select holy sites. Excuse me, iMac needs some more Kleenex...

It doesn't take very long to travel to missions. Killing all zone travel makes too many zones vacant which is not good.
Encountering other players is important and brings more socializing to the game.

have you've not traveled Nerva, Shadow Shard/Fire Base Zulu or done a Numina TF?

Well, yes. In fact, I had a string of missions not that long ago that coincidentally shuttled me back and forth between Dark Astoria and the Hollows...
