OK, not even going to read all the other replys. Simply going to join the whining that it isn't fair that the Apple people get exclusive costumes. Not fair to those of us who have been supporting the game.

[/ QUOTE ]
Hi shining one,

The costumes and powers that are included in the Mac version are special items just like what was included in the PC Good vs. Evil version.

And, like the Good vs. Evil edition they will be available for all current subscribers who are interested in them to optionally purchase them. We'll have more details, including screenshots, pricing and availability, out in the near future.

Thanks for your support!

[/ QUOTE ]

Hi Lighthouse,
so are you assuring us that, after the initial launch, both versions of the game will be treated exactly the same regarding variety of stuff, date of release and cost of package in any future "Pay to wear/play" type promotions and expansion packs. In other words there will be no "Arms Race" or favouring of one game version over the other even for short time periods.
Simultaneous and equitable marketing strategies for whatever platforms is going to be the rule, yes or no?
Cheers

Well, considering the Mac version is the Windows version, just wrapped in a fancy compatibility layer, they're essentially exactly the same and updates to one would be reflected in the other.

Me, my Macbook, Macbook Pro, and MacPro all thank you graciously... My job may not hold the same sentiments (thank god, I'M Big Brother at the office!)

When I write the next Guide to running CoH on a Mac, this will be one of the frequently asked questions. And I'll do my best to answer it from what I've read so far:

The Mac and PC clients for CoH/CoV will operate in an identical manner except for some slight user interface differences (my guess would be with the Updater, for instance, since all the other game controls are custom-drawn anyhow). The game servers expect to be "talked to" in a certain manner and don't really care what talks to it as long as it speaks the right language. The Mac client may identify itself differently for diagnostic purposes, but the gameplay will be the same.

Special items that come with the Mac Good vs Evil edition are differentiated not by the software, but by the activation key you use.

P.S. The real questions for Lighthouse would be: Whether the PC and Mac versions of the game would have simultaneous update/patch/issue releases, or if there would be a delay of a day or two; and whether Mac users will be issue patches for the CohTest client to use the Training Room for CoH betas.

I play on a PC. Let's say I were to buy the Mac GvE. Would I be able to use the code to upgrade my account and get all the shiny stuff on the account on my PC?

They have to. Otherwise the Mac client will be unable to connect to the servers for a couple days since since the versions will be different.

I wonder how the bind files will work?...Transferring them all will be troublesome *shudder*

Oh, and 'bout freakin' time...

You know, it's funny, the number of people who fail to read things, then complain about something that, if they had read to begin with, they'd see they had NO reason to complain.

Here's a direct quote from Lighthouse, posted on 10/30/2008 at 11:57 AM:

Yes, just like the Good vs. Evil edition of the game, the Macintosh version will include some special in-game items, including:

<ul type="square">[*]Mission Teleporter Power - Players can save time and get right into the action by teleporting directly to their active mission.

[*]Exclusive Valkyrie Costume set - Costume pieces include two varieties of wings, a cape, a skirt/kilt, pants, boots, shoulders, chest, gloves, belts, and helmet with multiple details.[/list]
These items will be available separately for purchase in early 2009 for customers who are not playing on a Mac.

Another good one for my guide.

The bind files are just text, and can easily be moved via file sharing or a USB stick.

[/ QUOTE ]
Moving them wouldn't be too difficult - the problem I'd forsee is the fact that within the CoH application itself (well, the Mac version anyways) is a miniature Windows installation. You'd have go into the application files, find that installation, and copy the bind files to where you want them, because I don't think the Transgaming software references locations outside its own application bundle.

Will existing CoH players be able to use the same account login or will it require a brand new account set up? Also, will there be an "upgrade" price for the Mac version?

It'll be just the same as installing a client on a new machine - your account will work and you won't have to pay for a new copy.

Same accounts, same servers, same characters.

Yes, according to Positron's post, there will be a free downloadable version for Mac. It just won't come with the extra powers.

If it's a PowerMac (as opposed to a MacPro), it won't work. Requires an Intel Mac.

Just wanted to be sure. Ran into at least one person in one of the threads who was looking forward to running it on their PPC Mac.

(But I know what you mean. If I was to get a MacBook Pro, I'd probably be calling it a Powerbook.)

Specs say that the game wont work on GMA 950, I use my MacBook in BootCamp to play CoH just fine (obviously I have turn turn down/off some options, but its still very playable). So why the different hardware requirements on the OSX side?
