Discussion: Closed Beta Mac Test
My mac is a imac 2.33 GHz Intel core 2 Duo with 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, I don't know what vid card my wife had installed when she ordered it but she got the vid card to play COX through Bootcamp all I know is that it is an ATI card, (Ill ask her exacts when she get back) but what I want to know is will my mac be compatible with this upcoming mac version, or am I going to have continue with Bootcamp, and turn my graphics down every time I team or join an invasion to avoid a reboot crash?

Your mac should certainly be compatible, it's newer than my iMac. But you'll probably still need to keep the graphics low, it's not going to be better than Bootcamp.

Just wondering if the application process includes an e-mail stating that our application was received or not...
I didn't get that e-mail.

I wonder how the bind files will work?...Transferring them all will be troublesome
[/ QUOTE ]
Another good one for my guide.
The bind files are just text, and can easily be moved via file sharing or a USB stick.
[/ QUOTE ]
Moving them wouldn't be too difficult - the problem I'd forsee is the fact that within the CoH application itself (well, the Mac version anyways) is a miniature Windows installation. You'd have go into the application files, find that installation, and copy the bind files to where you want them, because I don't think the Transgaming software references locations outside its own application bundle.
[/ QUOTE ]
My point in this is that I have a LOT of dynamically linked bind files, I'm interested in seeing how the pathing is going to work for the bind loads. I get they're flat text files, but do we use POSIX pathing or other methods?
Otherwise it's a 1-to-1 on the transfer. Keys are keys, after all.

Specs say that the game wont work on GMA 950, I use my MacBook in BootCamp to play CoH just fine (obviously I have turn turn down/off some options, but its still very playable). So why the different hardware requirements on the OSX side?
[/ QUOTE ]
It may be a recommendation rather than a requirement. I might test it on an Intel Mac Mini I have access to and see if it works.
[/ QUOTE ]
I hope so!
I probably should get a new machine if I want to continue gaming though.

Usually, I'm all for these decisions, but come on now-
A whole set of costume pieces, and a mission teleport power, just for having a different operating system?
That's... A bit out there.
Against my usual personality, I'm inclined to agree with Angry_Citizen here.
[EDIT] Oh, and note- The missions have been a problem in CoH since launch... Yeah, agree with this less now.

[/ QUOTE ]
No, it's new costume pieces and a power for $20. It looks like we Mac users will be able to download the mac client for free, but that won't get us the costume pieces or power.
This is no different than the Good vs. Evil edition, where new players got new costumes pieces and powers included. We existing players had to purchase those perks separately, just like we can do with the Mac edition perks.
There's no reason to be upset. There's been no indication that either version of the client will have sole access to any costume pieces, powers, zones, etc. It doesn't make financial sense to not allow all players a chance to buy more stuff.

Nevermind the fact that, if it works like all the other boxes, you can buy the Mac Client box regardless of whether or not you *have* a Mac and still get the month of game time and the costume/power applied to your account.
I fail to see a problem here.
1 Question, Will it work well with a 24-inch Imac With Nvidia Graphics?
The Imac is virtually brand new so im hoping i can go full screen, because i have no clue how to window it when it comes out.
Have they picked anyone for the Mac Beta yet?

No Mac Closed Beta invitations have been sent out yet.
We're wrapping up a couple things on our end in preparation for the Closed Beta launch, and the Mac Closed Beta applicants will be hearing from us.
If the iMac didn't have that horribly reflective plate of glass over the LCD I'd buy one to replace my G5 tower and my PC now that my two MMOGs are mac... EVE and CoH!
Ah well, maybe apple will wise up and offer some options for those of us not wanting a mirror for a monitor.
So when around do we expect to receive them and for it to start?

Mac Closed Beta applicants who have met the minimum system/OS requirements will be contacted soon.
As my previous post stated, we're just wrapping up a couple of things before we have the kick-off.
All the Mac Closed Beta players will be on their own server (independent of the Open Beta Training Room server), so really, we're just wrapping up a couple of things on the back-end.
You're up way too early. Unless of course you're babysitting the BackAlleyBawler for the weekend or something.

That's what I keep telling everyone but people still log off complaining that they are "Tired" and "want to go to bed"
Now we have Red name verification on the topic.

Will there be a way to copy existing characters to the new server?
I currently (sometimes) run the CoH client on my Mac with CrossOver games. It works, but it's a bit laggy, and lots of power effects going off can cause problems. (Was the lead tank for an LGTF and the first assault on the Rikti briefly kicked me into slideshow mode.) So we'll need to be able to test with high level characters as well as low-level.

Mmmmmm, cookie probe.

Scholarman,
There were 2 different places you could sign up at...the one on the US site took only your e-mail address and the one hosted on the European site (but for US players) had a field where you could (with some difficulties... ) enter your tech specs.
No cookies for you...

There are *two* Beta application pages.
Closed Beta - targeted to current "active" subscribers who own a Mac
Closed Beta Application Page
Open Beta - targeted to anyone who owns a Mac (even those who aren't subscribers)
Open Beta Application Page

I've had one for over a year now. The screen puts out so much light that reflections in the glass are only ever an issue about 1% of the time, and then only if the machine is positioned just so. And when I say issue, it's never been bad enough to get in the way of playing CoH.
