Pretty lame. I was really hoping the community wouldnt vote for another lethal set but they did, then to top it off I prayed that the devs would be creative and not make another sword set............. just great. We had our chance as a community to get a really cool set made and this is what we wasted it on. I really like Willpower but id rather choke then play another crappy sword set.

Don't blame me. I voted psychic melee.

I kinda hate how people judge a set without even playing or even see it live yet. Oh well I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will be good sets.

Personally, I have a mixed feeling towards both the player base and the devs regarding this new set.

On one hand, I relate to the majority of the players in that a dual swords set DOES seem cool. On the other hand, I abhor the common denominator that got us ANOTHER sword/lethal set for melee types, when we could've had something far more unique and different from what we already have available. In other words, while Dual Swords seems like fun, I think it pales in comparison to what we COULD have had.

As far as the devs, I actually feel bad for them because of how constantly they get lambasted with criticisms no matter what they put out for us. I genuinely believe we have a dev group that cares about their player base, and it's a shame they receive so much flak. On the other side, I share the feeling that a lot of players do that we do often end up getting the "easy fix" with things like repeat animations, certain game mechanics and un-fixed problems (Fury, Placate, the Market, defense-based sets, etc.), the over-abundance of smashing/lethal, the perpetual gimpage of certain sets, and so on.

It's a mixed bag, really. Overall, I sure would've liked to see a more innovative set like War Hammer, Psionic Weaponry, or Street Fighting, but assuming the actual powers of the set are decent, I'll give Dual Blades and Willpower their due. Now, if we wind up with another Claws-type or DPS-based attack set, or a defensive set that gimps itself by trying to be jack of all trades, master of none, then to hell with 'em.

I have a feeling more dark elves will be invading both the Isles and Paragon City with the new Dual Blades. I for one think they look AWESOME.

[/ QUOTE ]To be fair, there's already plenty of dark elvish folks, as well as a handful of Dr'zzt clones, running around Paragon City and the Rogue Isles.

I think the blades look fine. Kinda glad they aren't knives, if for no other reason than it won't be a direct copy of what the redcaps use animation wise.

Couldnt have put it better myself. I still stand by my position that the City of Legends project should not have been scrapped. If things would have continued we would have got a unique power set for each AT and that is what we need.

I hate that each time we just get 1 or 2 new ones and that is all you get to team with for the next 4 months. If we just had an issue of new sets then we would have basically a full 6 months of awesome teams and fresh toons.

I know this would be very hard though......... I just hope that in the future we make our new sets count. Cause pretty much all of the new ones have sucked royally.

Sonics for blasters, Dark for Stalkers, now these dual SWORDS.

We could be doing so much more right now. I really think that we need to start having veteran polls. How about when we vote on things from now on we have two polls. One that everyone can vote in and one that you can only vote in if you have a certain ammount of veteran badges.

That way we see what the noobies want and we see what the people who know what they are talking about want.

Im not saying we should go off of what the vets want only, but dont you think it would really show whats best for the game?

You can give a new player everything in the world but if they dont stick around whats it matter? You need to appeal to the guys who have stuck with you for 3 freaking years, if you start losing your vets your screwed.

.................................................. .........

end rant lol.

I love you guys, really.

*shrug* it's a bunch of people rushing to judgement based on a few screenshots, what did you expect?

The commentary that matters will happen once Closed Beta begins. Until then this is pretty much white noise.

We don't already have Dual Swords in the game, but I get what you're saying, it is just a Lethal set, but that doesn't mean it's not going to be unique. It is going to be all new animations for sure, since there's few animations they could reuse. Besides, being Lethal or Smashing has never stopped a few other sets from being overpowered.

As much as I hate to say it, the twin blades are seriously not flipping my switch. When I heard about this powerset I was hoping for more of a rapier/ dagger combo, not twin cutlasses...

Well, I think alot of the player reaction (on the forum) anyways, isn't that Dual Blades doesn't sound like a cool set...but it really seems to alot of people (could be true) that DB won out because it got the most votes because everyone did this...

#1 Yeah, this sounds cool
#2 Everything else doesn't interrest me, so I'll go with Dual Blades.

I know that's kinda how I went. #1 Psi Weapon (and when I say Psi Weapon I picture Psylocke, Cyblade, and RIFT Cyberknights :P ).

All the other choices were "meh" to me.

Electric Hammer? We have Electric Melee already, why add a hammer to it? To make Thor Clones?

Shield Offense? How many Shield users in comics (super hero not fantasy) actually use a shield for offense? Not many. And those that do, are usually inspired by Caps himself.

Energy Sword? We have Energy Melee (except for scrappers), and personally, I was worried it would be to much like a lightsabre. SW is cool...but this isn't SW.

The devs, I'm sure knew they'd get flak. I'm sure they realize some will be upset with another Lethal set.

Tho I don't know if I think your choices of Warhammer or Streetfighting is any more innovated. Especially sinse you seem to not like the idea of another Lethal set, when those two sets would be smashing.

Me...I'd just like to see another "elemental" set for scrappers myself....whether it be fire/ice/energy/electric/or something new.

No, I am massivly excited about the set. I just think they could have gone with a better weapon model.

They aren't re-engineering the entire game mechanics or something here, it's two new powersets. Maybe this was something Vets wanted, or maybe it wasn't. I myself voted for Psionic Weaponry and Dual Blades, I wanted to see how they'd do Psi Melee myself, but I'm sure Stalkers with Psionic damage would of been a tad ugly. But I think everyone should be given equal votes on what the next ATs are, since Vets don't always know best.

Your not the only one. :P I wasn't to excited about another set, but I had hopes for it...more for how they'd look than the set itself.

I feel a little dissappointed. Maybe that's because I just never thought of the swords to look like those tho. :P

Those are very cool dual blades. And when I imagine them whipping around in fast moving, intricate patterns like a Florentine fencer, I imagine they'll be very cool looking. But ... well, the image I'm seeing in my head comes across as awfully vicious, awfully aggressive looking, for a hero set. The image I'm getting in my head is not "I'm going to disarm and defeat you," it's not even "I'm going to kill you and let the medics at the prison hospital piece you back together," it's more like, "they'll be picking you up with a sponge and a mop." *shrug* But then, this is a game where the heroes use flamethrowers to arrest people, too, so it's not like we haven't been down this path before.

I'm willing to suspend judgment on screenshots 1 and 2 for willpower; if that's how those powers look on activation, but then they tone down to something almost invisible, fine. But screenshot 3 makes me think that that's not how it's going to work. Basically it's super-reflexes tinted an even more garish yellow instead of dark blue. So much for looking subtle, for looking like it's not even really super-powers, for something aimed at natural-origin characters. I'm not even sure that's salvageable, really, but if I were going to try to salvage it? I'd redo all of those effects in a very, very translucent, almost transparent, light gray like the color of the original sonic dispersion bubbles. Not the sonic dispersion shapes, but something like the super reflexes/ninjitsu shapes in that color, or at most the new sonic dispersion shapes in that color. And if screenshot 2 means that once you hit level 16 or whatever you're going to have this intense glowing yellow orb in the middle of your chest all the time, like the green one that all regen characters have, them so much "for subtle," because I find that intense orb of light in the middle of my chest to be deeply annoying, something that just completely takes over the look of the character and renders any concept or costume moot.

But frankly, what I'd prefer is for there to be no visible aura of any kind at all for any of the Willpower powers except for the first few seconds after activation. If I want an aura on my character, I can go to Icon or Facemaker and buy one. This "all powers have to be visible from across the room" concept really doesn't work for me. Truthfully, though, I'm less concerned about the graphics of Willpower than about the numbers. I'm personally of the opinion that all of the stalker secondaries underperform, I'm wondering if this set's going to underperform just as badly or maybe be better at surviving in a fight after the alpha-strike goes off without having to uber-twink your build to absolute maximum efficiency (and expense).

Dual Blades - Can't see them in action. From the poses, looks like the swords are a bit long (but I guess we are in a Final Fantasy world). Some of the positions look a bit combat awkward. I hope at least some of the "moves" involve keeping the target at range with one blade while delivering a blow with the other - ie. preferably one with a acc-debuff and def-debuff (unless there is some other way to portray the ability to lock-up/parry opponents weapon with one blade while openning them up with a shot with the other). Thought it is not always the case, curved blades tend to be more for mounted warriors. Strait blades for people on foot. Think about the motion of the blade when you impale someone while riding and you'll see why I'm saying that. I do understand that curved blades look cool and you want to give them a different look from the other bladed weapons. I was expecting more short swords (or sai), a parrying blade and rapier, or batons/fighting sticks. Criticism aside. I'm looking forward to seeing the power-set in motion.

Willl power - I can't get the site to come up. I'm pretty security concious, so it may have been blocked due to some spurious cookie or another that may cause other users security issues. Just a heads up. Of course, maybe other people are getting to the link a different way other than clicking on it and maybe the link itself is bad. I don't know which. I can't get IE to bring it up at any rate.

Welcome, Drizzt Do'Urden clones.

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly what I was going to say.

They just don't really look feasible, I wanted to try them but they just look absurdly long and thin. A katana was a two handed weapon for most people, using two (which is what they look like) is just not right.

Oh well, there's always willpower.

[/ QUOTE ]

Welcome, overly paranoid psycho folk.

Seriously, you want to be paranoid about something? Be paranoid about the fact that a good majority of all the "new" sets that have been released since the game's release have sucked, royally.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's not paranoia; it'll happen, just like how many other power sets make perfect material for [homage] characters. They will come, they will swarm, but inevitably they will die out once they lose interest/the set gets "too hard". It was more a critique of the design.

I have absolute faith that the devs have crafted a wicked power set. What Dual Blades will do will probably be cool. I'm looking forward to seeing them in action.

Wow...not liking the dual blades too much.I'm all for the powerset...but they are waaaaaay too long.I am like the MAJORITY here in hoping they would be shorter and/or thicker.Looks like they were more into the animations than the design. Here's to hoping the new animations dwarf the design.

Wow.

I am shocked by how TERRIBLE those blades look.

I was SUPER excited for this set, and these pictures are a major buzzkill.

They look incredibly simple.

Cryptic, do yourselves a favor and release tutorials to let modders skin your crappy weapon models.

Mace. Axe. Broadsword. Katana. Dual Blades. They all look TERRIBLE. Amateurs can do better.

I think that the major problem with the Dual SWORDS is that the look of them (appearantly) wasn't thought out very well. Like I said when we were voting on this stuff (or atleast I think I said it...to someone...may not have been on the boards) I would love to be able to choose between multiple looks for the dual blades. I think that would make a lot of people happy. Animations wouldn't have to change but a little variation would be nice. Say one signature power for each blade choice? Kinda like AS for Stalkers.

Also, I'd like to know if we'll be getting something to put these blades in, or will we retrieve them from the usual place...the air... (same for katana/ninja blade and those magical arrows)

more attention to detail please

And I liked the blondes hairstyle too haha

Edit: I'd also like to place another vote for shapeshifting melee

That is all.........for now.

Dual Blades look neat. Personally, I would've wanted them to go with Short Swords or Daggers (ala the Red Caps), but even though what we're seeing now isn't exactly what I hoped for, I still approve of them.

As for Willpower, I'm definitely going to wait and see. While the images do seem a bit... busy, nothing can really be told about how it'll look based on a couple of still images. For all we know, this is just a spot where every graphic pulsed at the same time.

Considering what we've been told about these two sets and that the meleers are getting some long overdue loving, I can't wait for these to hit Test.

Ok, I've figured out what was turning me off from Dual Blades. After blowing the pics up as big as I could, it's the picture of the female that was throwing me off of the actual size of the swords and their thickness. Seeing her hold them makes them look huge and skinny, but if you look at the 4th picture with the guy fighting Clockwork, they actually do look cool with the different hilt and curved blade. They've got a good thickness and length to them.

And looking at the poses again makes me giddy to think of what a giant, chain of attacks will look like

Posted

I'm in agreement that the dual blades are too firggin' LONG...

I was thinking this would be more along the lines of a shortsword/main gauche combo, or twin sai or wakizashi ....

Well said! I, too, look forwards to what the devs have done, and will reserve my Doom-and-Glooming until I've had the opportunity to test them myself.

Ya'll might want to do the same, eh?
