My guess is a group that you fight that somehow enables flash back. If I am right I expect pie to be delivered to my door!

I don't think that is a snake biting its tail. If you look at the head, it seems to have an ear. I would guess it is a lion.

That's ok, serpent does not equal snake. Ourouboros is traditionally a serpent or dragon, and most images have ears/horns.

Guys, havest thy never heardst of the World Serpent? The one that would fight Thor in the final battle called:

Definition:

destruction of gods: in Norse mythology, the final destruction of the gods in a great battle against the forces of evil, after which a new world will arise

[Mid-18th century. < Old Norse ragnarök "fate of the gods" < regin "gods" + rok "fate"]

[/ QUOTE ]

The picture very strongly suggest a Nordic influence. The head is very much reptillian (with the way the skin is at the hinges of the jaw), and believe it or not dragons and sea serpents have been described as having ears (they have characteristics of more than just snakes, don'tcha know?).

While Encarta fails me in finding the name of the World Serpent (I believe it starts with a 'J'), it was tricked into biting onto it's own tail. Loki, the father of the World Serpent, saved the Serpent (as well as Fenris) so they could help him win Ragnarock.

And no, I'm not talking 'Marvel's' or 'DC's' version of Norse mythology.

I just wanted to throw my two cents into this:

Something I haven't seen (strangely) that would tie into time travel is a repeatable respec. Some sort of time travel task force that allows you to alter your own past.

I think that the Nemesis theory is pretty sound, which is exactly why I believe it and exactly why I hope to god it isn't true. I have nothing against Nemesis, understand, and I'd be happy if he was doing some temporal shenanigans, but I really want to be surprised when this comes out, and to have it come from an angle absolutely no one was expecting.

However, I think I11 will contain the following: Repeatable Respec, Flashback (possibly under a different name), Nemesis messing with time, and the two new powersets.

While I don't expect it, it'd just be groovy if the villain EATs got in there.

Hmmm. . . incidentally, has anybody tried to identify any hero/villain groups that are mentioned in the fiction but up until now has not been seen in-game?

Alternate reality. Basically, imagine if everyone skipped the tutorial on both sides. The Outbreak virus never gets cured and Jenkins never gets rescued. The breakout gets stopped and Outbreak breaks out.

Jörmungandr?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, Jormungandr. Until Ragnarok, he lies below the oceans, biting his own tail, encircling the world.
So, that's two symbols of infinity (the ouroboros and the sideways figure-eight) done up in a Nordic/Germanic style with a background reminiscent of fire and smoke.
Then, we have the two tutorials that never got done: No heroes manage to stop Outbreak and it spreads around the world. Nobody rescues Jenkins and Lord Recluse never gets his Destined Ones.

This leans heavily in the directions of both Flashback and more parallel universe stuff. The dual infinity could mean either the infinite multiverse or the infinite spectrum of time and its possibilities. Or it could just be that Nemesis has a new necklace.

Jörmungandr?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep. This whole next issue is all about me.

/cue "The flight of the Valkyries" in the background...

Gotterdamurung: Twilight of the Gods, Ragnarok, Apocalypse. Baldr has fallen, Fenrir is unleashed, and Loki captains Naglfar on her grim journey. Fimbulwinter is coming, and Yggdrasil will be shaken to it's roots.

I11's focus on the mythical Norse apocalypse is just another step on the eschatalogical road that the developers began in I10. We know from Posi's dev diary that I10 was inspired by the book of revelations; that it was loosly based on the Christian apocalypse. The fact is, every issue from now on will, in some way, focus on a different mythos' end of days. This will continue for the next 5 years, culminating in the Mayan themed Issue 666, to be released on December 21, 2012. This issue will have no actual content, and will consist solely of Statesman unplugging all the servers permanently, and bringing an end to our beloved CoX. (Currently on the table is also a plan to hunt down and kill all current and former CoX players after that, but the devs may have to push that back until issue 667.)

Now...who do we know who uses stylized machines to try to live forever?

I predict Nemisis Rex is gonna be coming back po'ed that his Rikti plans went off course...

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep, this was my guess too.

I'm guessing every major villain factor will be getting a major overhaul like the rikti did so all the villains can be up to date. Plus the Nemesis would fit well with the current story line that i10 brought.

Not to mention that steam warhorse pic we saw a short while ago...

I think we're all overanalyzing. Look at the image, what do you see? A snake, in the shape of infinity. The meaning is clear.

In Issue 11, every villain group will be infiltrated and taken over by the Snakes. There will be infinite Snakes. FreakSnakes. Banished Snakes. Embalmed Snakes. The Carnival of Snakes. Snake Head Gunners. Snake Protectors. Serpent Snakes. Legacy Snakes. Snake Mitochondria. Snakes of Artemis.

ALL WILL BE SNAKES.

Issue 11: Go. Hunt. Kill Snakes.

I so wish that actually happened. Just so my Praetorian 'hero' could respond.

Bidon: *hears message* ...Nope.
Ein: But-
Bidon: Nope. I ain't getting paid for that.
Ein: Thanks of the world, Bidon. The world is back as it should be.
Bidon: This world sucks and you know it.
Ein: Well... Isn't life a form of payment?
Bidon: Only when you can die.
Ein: Point. Hey, maybe if you kill him you can take his time travel technology, make things the way you want it.
Bidon: ...Deal. *runs*
Ein: There, Nemesis is doomed. ...And so is continuity. Damnit, not again. COME BACK HERE!

Good times, good times...

Being serious though, I'm getting a bad feeling about this, int he pit of my stomach. Like this isn't going to work out as well as we hope.

While we are using the greek word "Ouroborous" for this, I don't recally greek art stylizing images in this manner. Of the top of my head, I'd say Aztec or Norse would be more likely with both Quetzalcoatl and Jörmungandr being depicted as unending serpents. Admitedly, neither culture used the lemniscate so this is either a confabulation with something else, or I'm headed of down a wrong tangent. The third Reich did study a fair amount of Norse mythology, however, and attempted to combine some of it with science, particularly with theories like Welteislehre that seemed to provide a direct conection between the two. Medieval artists also tended to sylize things greatly, so the idea of this being alchemical also holds water.

[/ QUOTE ]
More Norse or Celtic than Aztec; the stylization doesn't fit the Aztec or Mayan art I've seen, and abstracts too far away from 'plumed serpent' or 'feathered serpent' (depending on which translation you prefer).
