Balance: Archvillains currently resist a large percentage of debuffs with very few exceptions (such as -Damage, -Resistance and the occasional non-resistable debuff). This creates an imbalance where buffs are much more useful than debuffs when it comes to team survivability. It also perpetuates the belief that the only debuff worth using on an AV is -Regeneration, and thus there’s no reason to bring a debuffing Defender that lacks -Regeneration (such as Storm, Sonic, and Trick Arrows).

Trick Arrow does actually have a -regen component in EMP arrow.

  3. Hmmm . . . the next time around, would it be possible to set things up such that you can use the arena kiosk to view the event in much the same fashion as you would an arena match? What's more, could it be set up such that somebody on a live server could also view the event (that is, somehow run a connection from the Training room to all the Live servers)? What would the logistics be like to do this? If server strain were a concern (due to all the invisible camera points), perhaps have a dedicated "camera man" server-side?

Anybody got any clues or comments?

  4. (Quick Reply) Dunno . . . after having dealt with item malls and the like in other MMORPGs, I'd have to say that $9.99 is pretty reasonable for what's being offered. Of course, as the saying goes, your mileage may vary.

  5. Well . . . I do have one idea, though it won't work if these guys are using stolen credit card information. It works like this:

    1. Require a credit card to sign on to the trial (that is, you can't start playing on a trial account until you provide credit card information)

    2. If a trial account is determined to be one that's been spamming everybody to high heaven, charge that credit card some astronomical amount as a penalty.

The line of thought is that each time a trial account is determined to have been used for RMT spam, there would be an accompanying penalty charge, which in turn would make doing business so expensive as to not be worth it.

A variation of this could be done with the existing system to some degree: if the free trials created by an existing account are deemed to have been used for RMT spam, that existing account would be charged a penalty for each infraction.

As noted earlier, however, this idea would only work if the RMTer isn't using stolen credit card info. I also strongly suspect that this may lead to some form of griefing or another, and there may be consequences I'm not thinking of as well.

  6. Yet another thing I've come to appreciate about City of Heroes/City of Villains: soloing is an option! One thing that annoyed the frag out of me about Everquest was that you needed a team to do much of anything. If you wanted to solo, you had to run one of the spell-casting classes that had the capability and you had to go to certain areas that was conducive to it. What wasn't helping was that it was nearly always mind-numbingly boring; killing the same darned giant over and over again, with a five minute wait in between each kill, got real old real fast. Finally, there wasn't always a nice place to solo within certain level ranges, meaning that if you wanted to solo, you were out of luck.

Doing the same kind of missions again and again?

A number of us out here have a favorite task force or trial that we don't mind running yet again; the hero-side respec trial happens to be one of mine, for example.

MMORPGs are, to one degree or another, over-glorified chat rooms. In fact, there are now chat programs that feature 3D customizable avatars and a virtual environment of some kind and were likely inspired by MMORPGs.

  8. If there's something from Everquest that I don't miss, it's the unenviable situation of 1-5 pieces of loot for 72+ people. It boggles my mind to this very day how all the people who didn't get anything (and I mean that literally: little to no cash other than maybe a few pennies, virtually no experience gained, perhaps not even some objects that could be sold later for cash) in return for all their time and hard work to consider this situation remotely fair. I certainly would like to throttle whichever idiot came up with this idea, because damn, it was responsible for Lord knows how many bitter arguments over loot. Then, just when you finally got a full set of that great gear, along comes an expansion where a single piece of gear from said expansion rendered entire sections of your just-acquired hard-earned gear obsolete. It's stupid situations like this and more that has me vowing to never go back to Everquest again.

  9. Just one request:

Could the Control output of the Mainframe or the Prestige cost of the Mainframe be re-examined? It currently provides only 50 Control, whereas the combo generator provides 75 Control. Now, I don't know about you, but I daresay a very expensive Mainframe should be more powerful than a pair of laptops! Besides, assuming that we've already allocated all of the Control from the combo generator, upgrading to the Mainframe can be problematic as we have to also buy a Database at the same time to make up for the shortfall.

  10. A few more examples of real-world assault rifles would be great:

    Heckler and Koch G36/G36E:

    Steyr AUG:

    http://world.guns.ru/assault/as20-e.htm

If you need to "generic" the name of the weapon (I noticed that one of the weapons was renamed from "M14" to "Military Assault Rifle"), you could probably say "European Assault Rifle", "Bullpup Assault Rifle" (for the AUG), or even "Export Assault Rifle" (especially for the G36). All of those would fit.

  11. Hmmm. . . incidentally, has anybody tried to identify any hero/villain groups that are mentioned in the fiction but up until now has not been seen in-game?

  12. Well, the new Oversight Centers provide a very large space for a very small generator, so a lot of us are faced with what the heck to do with the extra space. Here's what I've done with my SG's Oversight Center so far:

    Beta 1

Still needs some tweaking; I can't seem to get the room as dark as I want it to be. Guess I'll just have to mess around some more . . .
