Is this how the game breaks down in terms of development categories?

That would explain quite a bit.

- It's a superhero game
- The combat engine
- The ability to solo when I want
- The costume creator hey that's on the list! I can stop here.

I agree with this, except I'd also add "Powersets" in there, or split it out from Combat Engine. It is very strange that an official poll would leave out the best reasons to play the game: Genre, Combat Engine/Powersets, and Soloability. My #4 is also Costumes, so I voted for that.

In the results, it seems that many people like the storyline. I cant vote highly for that because, even though I've done most of the missions, I dunno, I hate wading through a bunch of clues as they happen, and I feel the fragments of any overall part are too inconvenient to see, if you dont already have a motivation to dig, dig, dig through stuff. I wisht there were an option to make clues a pop-up when you get them ... I'd be more inclined to read them. I dunno, the Storyline Presentation seems obfuscated to me.

As long as you keep giving me solid storyline with strong gameplay and plenty of replay value, you've got me.

I think you guys are doing a great job

As far as pvpers go, some check the boards, most probably dont. As far as tips and tricks, you wont see many of value on the blue boards. why? because people dont give up their secrets, or experience that easily. Its a competative envirnment to some degree. It takes many a butt whoopin to get good and learn pvp. Serious pvpers know that. They arent going to hand their skills and experience on a silver platter so others dont have to put the hard work in themselves.

That's an interesting point; I never thought of it that way. From an outsider's perspective it looks like the PvP crowd is a particularly vocal and enthusiastic bunch around here, so I figured that in-game PvPers were on the forums in larger numbers, proportinally speaking, than the playerbase at large.

I could be wrong, though.

Think this is how they figure out how to divide up the Christmas bonus money amongst the dev teams?

The Costume is the most important from the list, but more important than that, its a SUPER-POWERED game that gets continuous love from the devs.

I picked costumes but I would have really picked Powers if that were an option.

I love powers and love testing out and using all new powers....good stuff!

Need more choices... I love costumes, loathe PVP, but if I have to choose one thing, the storyline. It's still a superhero game, something this comic book geek craves...and if there's anything I'd want to have more concentration on, by the devs, it's that. Make us more part of the world, less like people fighting an endless array of faceless enemies...perhaps give us more things to do outside combat. Hey, I can dream.

Two things have kept me here through the nerfs:

1) Statesman's "You can log on for 30 min. and have fun." This part of the design goal is the one I feel they've done best with. The mission structure is such that I can always log on for a bit with a character and have something to do within minutes. And often it's something story based which is a big plus.

2) The storyline. It's Top notch.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Of those choices, I would choose villain groups. Little has given me more of a thrill than growing in level and discovering a new group and trying to figure out what they do and how they do it. Closely tied with that is why they do it, which is storyline and my second choice from the list.

Costumes are great and I love making my characters look unique. But honestly I only have 1 character that has all 5 costume slots filled with different costumes and he mainly uses his original. Most of my other characters go through their careers with just the original, or maybe one other costume.

But to me, the greatest thing about this game is options and diversity. As you can see from this thread, folks have all sorts of preferences and this game accomodates them all. When I get bored of the XP grind, I hunt around for badges, or go to PvP zones, or spend a few hours redesigning my base or a new character. There is always something different to do and I like to do it all.

If the point of this poll is to judge where to devote resources, my vote would be arena and base bugs. Nothing has been more frutrating to me than spending time setting up a base raid or arena match only to see it bug out, or have team mates kicked out.

Both the arena and bases have such great potential to be a bridge between PvE and PvP. If either or both could be used as a holodeck or danger room to gauge your build and skills against player defined NPCs, you can sign me up for the lifetime membership.

I like the storylines I play for the stories but wish there was some sort of mop up mode that made the contacts say wait you havent done this mission before, so here you go you might not get any xp influence or prestige, but you might get a badge, try out a temporary power and maybe an enhancement thats too weak for you to use if you complete a storyarc. But you will have your story and the content.

Or when the devs revamp a mission they could put a new tag on it so i can call me old contacts they would have a the revamp mission for me to play on, or maybe Azuria and the others will be happy to give me new contacts regardless of my level and see what they would have even if all the villians are grey.

So when I go to a contact they dont say I hate you your making paragon city safe. Now I know we have juicy new events but your just to powerful go twiddle your thumbs and maybe you can get a torn up comic book with only a few incoherent randomly placed pages.

I open it up to the 1st page I get the top 1/2 page 17 1st then i get to read the bottom 1/2 of page 3 a middle section of page 5 a porttion of an add on page 31 and the cover melts into goo and I dont get to read anything more.

And thats what it feels like when you have to do the content with someone else whos nice enough to let you join them for a while.

I would read the paper but its the same old newspaper from issue 1, and i have read it so much that I have memmorised every word. I guess ill have to sit on the sidelines with my basket lunch of a cherry sandwich,a diet coke salad, a potato cola and a boloney pie and try to guess whats going on in paragon city.

The fight should have been up there, or PvE or however you want to term it. Afterall, it IS a game we're playing. Because that wasn't listed I had to choose costumes.

OOoo! Almost forgot to mention, events! I love events. Contests on test, unannounced dev sightings... surprise stuff.

My vote went to the storyline.

The story is composed of the specific groups - I love choosing specific groups as nemesis for individual characters and working their stories into my character's story, and thus becoming part of the overall City story.

And I too must comment that PvP made the list.... and PvE most surely did not.

Storyline FTW peeps, and Wow I agree PvP on list but No PVE, have to wonder if they worried about all of us PVE players slamming it to make sure they know what content we want them to focus on. PVE 4ever and the Win!

I would have to vote for different powers and AT's thats what really draws my attention...but since that isn't an option I chose bases. Not because it's my "favorite" out of that category, but because it needs more to it. One thing that would make bases popular is adding personalized rooms, a Wreck room (where u chose what enemies and difficulty you want to fight, maybe even Sig Heroes/AV's/GM's for badges), and more missions for the SG's. I gaurantee if you added more things to bases it would be a major aspect in the CoX universe.

Im willing to bet these poll numbers would be different about 6-8 months ago. A lot of ppl jumped ship when they were dissapointed that all the devs seemed to concentrate on was costumes, and badges, when things like PvP, and Bases, needed serious attention. Bases and PvP were after all, a major selling point for CoV, and its failed miserably.

This is a very baised poll in my opinion and I am surprise PvP is even getting 10% though that is probably the folks that mainly do pvp zones from time to time. To me is obvious that those that still play are mainly in it for the costumes and PvE content is there isn't much else in this game. Surprise costume isn't higher as after playing for 2+ years I am sure the PvE has for the most part run its course. I think the devs are just waiting for issue 9 to make major changes that will hopefully bring tons of people back. We will see

I enjoy the team concept most. I love the super group that I'm in - Legion of Avatars and really enjoy playing with 'real' people online. This really should have been a choice.

One thing I find mildly annoying is the limited number of layouts in door missions. Is there only one architect in Paragon City?

I voted for costumes, I love 'em soooo much!

My second favourite is bases. I think that even though they have some problems, they have so much potential and they can be really neat.

I chose the storyline, but that's not really accurate. What I like most about CoX is the game.

I mean... I can log in at any level, and right away there are ample instances of free-range spawns and/or 'dungeons' I can solo without getting crowded on anyone. There's a lot of content (albeit in tiny bites) that I can set myself up to experience if I want to lay back more in my session. And there's a range of power playing I can do with friends or PUGs or sg's for any size from a group of 2 to 200 if I'm in the mood for that.

I mean... the game is basically a flashy beat-em-up (a flash-em-up?). And I enjoy that. Stuff like roleplaying and badges and content and costume creation and pvp and bases (and AT balance even) are peripherals, and have been wisely designed to not get in the way of the core game. Things like excessive travel and low-level pointlessness that tends to frustrate on other MMOs have been neatly sidestepped here. And the genre of the game allows for a modern-day relatability unlike excessive fantasy or sci-fi settings.

It also helps that the boards are kept up so well, so that people get a decent chance to express themselves without excessive blowback. The result has been a wealth of shared information that has really helped me figure out how to play the game.

I played EQ for two years, and although it too was a flashy beat-em-up I enjoyed, so many things in the game kept getting in the way of playing the game that my sessions ended up becoming fights against my own instinctive acrimony. By the end I was losing too many of those fights.

I'm starting to close in on 3 years of CoH now and I still feel no hint of any bitterness. At most I can say that CoH is feeling a little stale, and I'm still somewhat convinced that CoH will likely be shut down in a year in favor of the Cryptic/Marvel MMO when the latter is ready to launch (I mean, that's the kind of 'it's just business' move that happens no matter how many denials lead up to it).

But it doesn't matter. CoH has given me 3 years of solid value for my entertainment dollar (including the half-year I spent anxiously and hopefully anticipating it's release). Even if the devs start tanking the game from here I'll still always be a fan for what they've accomplished to date. Anything more they do for me is bonus.

Went for costumes, as, of the choices, that is what I like most the game currently...well the whole creator really.

That said, I really REALLY wanted to pick storyline, and I hope if this poll is to judge dev team focus/concentration/emphasis, that storyline gets it. There are many many good stories and much lore out there - the only thing that kept me from liking it best were game mechanic issues. I don't know if things like repeating the same missions over and over and other teammates' not being able to shar in the mission story are even practically fixable, but I would just like to see enough *oomph* to story to make me forget the limitations of the mechanics.
